Lexus will be bringing a concept version of its Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series fighter to the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year. While that may be exciting for you high-performance compact hatchback lovers, the real big news is that the model will be a hybrid-only model like the 2010 Lexus HS 250h, which was introduced at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

According to Top Gear, the model will go on sale in later-half of 2010 and will be priced below the IS.

By now you’re probably looking at photos of the HS 250h and getting very depressed thinking to yourself that the car won’t look half as good as the A3 or the 1-Series. Relax.

Insiders say that while the car will be based on the front-wheel-drive Toyota Prius platform and will share most of its technology with the HS 250h, it will get an aggressive, sleek and smaller body design. Of Course, it’ll be a 5-door hatchback.

Power will most likely come from a 2.4L Atkinson mated to the Lexus Hybrid Drive making 187-hp.

Toyota will show a concept version of a dedicated Lexus hybrid model at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in two months. According to Mag-X, a Japanese magazine, the hybrid vehicle will be dubbed HS250h and will go on sale in Japan in 2011. It will arrive in North American markets next year as a 2010 model.

The magazine is also running a artist rendering (seen above) that reminds us a lot of the Toyota Avensis recently revealed at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The dedicated hybrid model, which according to the rendering will be a sedan, is rumored to be built on the Prius platform. The interior carries the “L-finesse” design theme with a little bit of influence from BMW like the iDrive system.

Power is expected to come from a 2.4L engine mated to a hybrid system found in the Toyota Camry. That means we will see the use of nickel-hydride first. Previous reports suggest that the dedicated hybrid model will upgrade to lithium-ion batteries in 2010.
