Ever since the beginning of time, Lamborghini has been known as the all-wheel-drive, go hard, supercar. In 2009, the company released the new Gallardo with all-wheel-drive, then later created a ‘Balboni’ limited-edition with rear-wheel drive for those that like power sent to the back (along with Balboni, Lambo’s test driver himself).

According to recent reports, Lamborghini will now offer the same to Gallardo Spyder lovers that desire some rear-wheel-drive fun as well.

The Gallardo Spyder is badged as the LP560-4 so we can expect the rear-wheel-drive version to be called LP550-2 Spyder. With that badging we’re guessing that power from the 5.4 liter V10 will be turned down by 10 horses – however, the model should be slightly lighter than the all-wheel-drive drop top.

Lamborghini’s ‘LP550-2′ should also come with a slightly smaller price tag, dropping about $14,000 off the starting price.

Instead of purchasing something more practical to suit his active lifestyle, 29-year old Olson chose to modifiy his Gallardo for his purposes.

This is not the first supercar he chose to modify, however. A Murcielago LP670 Superveloce was his first victim, which was fitted with a ski-box. After changing his mind on the new Aventador, he decided on the Gallardo LP560, and has already had a custom ski box made to withstand up to 159 mph, and has modified the exterior with a camouflage-influenced paint job.

With this kind of cash to play with, I’d have spent my dollars a bit more wisely.

Owning a premium supercar has its ups bit it also has its downs. Case in point – an owner of this Lamborghini Gallardo spent a wonderful day at the track – but on his way home he found himself in a pretty sticky situation that will most likely cost him and arm and leg.

I have filmed a friend’s Lamborghini Gallardo during a trackday event. Video shows first some track scenes. At the end of the day my friend left the racetrack. The main road was very tight, there was another car coming from the opposite way. Worried about scratching his car against the other, my friend moved too much on the right side of the road and half of the car fell down. Actually, we were in the countryside, in the middle of nowhere. It was a pretty difficult situation to move the car. Before all the haters starts to write negative comments about my friend.. it’s just an accident, it could happen to everyone.

Ever since Lamborghini released a little teaser for the upcoming 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the automotive publications on the Internet have been going crazy with speculation.

“Discover a new Lamborghini super sports car at the next Frankfurt Motor Show” – is what Lamborghini says in its teaser, and that itself, leaves a lot of room for rumors.

We’ve heard everything from a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster to a production Sesto Elemento. Word now has it that Lamborghini will offer a roadgoing version of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Super Trofeo – that will make it the most extreme Lamborghini Gallardo ever produced.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Super Trofeo is powered by the same 5.2L V10 engine but pumps out an extra 10 horses for a total of 570-hp and is mated to the E.Gear 6-speed gear box. Pricing starts at $252,650 with only 30 track focused models made in 2009.

You can expect the roadgoing version to be priced similar with limited production.

With a a 5.2-liter V10 with 552 horsepower allowing for a 0 to 60 mph time in 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 is anything but slow. However, tuners love to get their hands on the Gallardo LP560-4 and throw in massive amounts of power… well, we guess that’s because too much power is never really a bad thing.

Porsche 918 RSR

Besides the upcoming Porsche Cajun, a baby Panamera and a new entry-level model, Porsche is reportedly considering a new mid-engined supercar that would compete with the likes of Aston Martin Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren.

Now many of you may be thinking that this will be a limited-edition super-expensive model, but reports suggest that the model is being conceived as a regular production model. It will be positioned above the 911 but below the Porsche 918 Spyder, which arrives in 2013 as a special-edition model.

Pricing wise, the new model will be in the same territory as the Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren MP4-12C and the Lamborghini Gallardo – so think around or above $250,000.

“We’re looking to extend the range,” Porsche’s new CEO Mathias Muller  said. “We’ve got an idea to do another mid-engined model. We’re thinking above the 911 but below the 918 Spyder (we think the Porsche 918 RSR would be nice). We have ideas on styling and design, which we will continue to develop in the coming months,” he said.

Plans for what will power the new Porsche model is still up in the air but if it wants to compete with the 458 Italia, MP4-12C and the Gallardo LP560-4, it will need to make somewhere around 550 to 600-hp. Porsche’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder pushes out 620-hp.

We really hope this gets approved.

Refresher: The Porsche 918 RSR is built on a stiff carbon fiber plastic monocoque and is powered by a direct-injected V8 from the RS Spyder making 563-hp. The two electric-motors on the front wheels contribute a burst of 150 kW bringing output to peak drive power of 767-hp. The additional jump in power is generated during braking and is stored in an optimised flywheel accumulator.

Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore

One image of the upcoming Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore has been leaked onto the Internet. Apparently the sesquicentennial anniversary of Italy’s unification is a big deal with Italian automaker has Lamborghini follows Fiat and Ferrari that are also offering special-edition touches to celebrate the occasion.

From the leaked image we can see that the Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore features the Italian flag colors right down the driver side of the vehicle including the driver seat.

We’re not really sure what else is special about the Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore but we’re guessing those Italians with a lot of money and pride will buy it.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera

Lamborghini America has announced a new lease program in partnership with Premier Financial Services that will allow customers access the company’s Gallardo lineup.

Vehicles eligible for the lease program include the 2010 and 2011 Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyders, 2011 Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupe, 2011 LP 570-4 Superleggera and the brand new 2011 Gallardo LP 550-2.

“We have seen an increasing desire from our customers to develop a Lamborghini-specific leasing program as an alternative to traditional ownership,” said Wolfgang Hoffmann, Chief Operating Officer of Automobili Lamborghini America, LLC. “This new program allows enthusiasts access to some of the most extreme Lamborghini vehicles on the road.”

If you’re looking to lease a Lambo you better hurry because the program is only open from Jan. 31 to March 31, 2011. The 27-month lease allows only 3,500 miles a year.

“We have created a custom leasing plan for Lamborghini that will be a beneficial tool for dealers and a great finance option for customers,” said Mitchell Katz, President of Premier Financial Services. “We are pleased to partner with Lamborghini and to play a role in getting enthusiasts into these amazing vehicles.”

Hamann Victory II Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

Hamann has already done a Victory version of the first Lamborghini Gallardo and is now back with the Hamann Victory II based on the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. The upgrades include engine performance enhancement and a bunch of carbon fiber body parts.

The Hamann Victory II replaces the regular doors on the Gallardo LP560-4 with wing doors, which is an essential part to a Lamborghini. Other upgrades include new fenders in the front, fender extensions, side skirts, air inlets on the roof and a new rear wing.

Hamann engineers made some minor adjustments to the engine electronics and squeezed a total of 580-hp and a maximum torque of 398 lb-ft of torque. That allows the Hamann Victory II to reach a top speed of 204 mph.

In terms of wheels, Hamann offers the Victory II with 20 inch Edition Race rims.

HAMANN already presented the super sports car Victory based on the first Lamborghini Gallardo. With the latest Gallardo LP560-4, now also the new HAMANN Victory II is introduced. The car body becomes broader and the engine performance as well as the amount of carbon parts is significantly increased.

And what is the most essential part of a Lamborghini? Right, it is the wing doors. And nobody really knows why the Gallardo is not equipped with them straight away. HAMANN offers these for the Victory II. In addition, they offer an entire refinement of the original body design which starts with a new front apron in Race-design with a centre carbon part. With new fenders in the front and fender extensions in the back, the Victory II renders an even more remarkable appearance. Also, the extended side skirts and the air inlet on the roof – available in carbon as well – confirm this impression. The back of the car is enhanced by a diffuser and a newly designed rear wing which pushes the car onto the road at high speeds. HAMANN offers the rear wing either in fibre glass or the ultra light and persistent carbon. On top of that, a carbon layer can be applied to the bonnet.

Word on the street is that Lamborghini is getting ready to debut a three-tone color Gallardo LP560-4 at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next month. For what reason exactly? To celebrate 150 years of Italian unification.

According to rumors, the bullish brand will debut a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 with Callisto alloy wheels, redesigned interior and a black roof matched to yellow, white, grey, orange and green color schemes. Only 250 versions of the car will be produced to keep it exclusive.

Also in the rumors is a two-tone color special edition Gallardo.

Whatever it is, we’ll find out at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next month.

Lamborghini Jota / Murcielago Teaser

Lamborghini has dropped another teaser, showing the tail light of the upcoming Murcielago successor (aka Jota). The model, which was teased earlier this year, is scheduled to make it world debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show later this month.

Power is expected to come from a direct-injected V12 unit making at least 700-hp. 0-62 mph is expected to come in 3 seconds with a top speed of more than 230 mph.

10,000th Lamborghini Gallardo

Lamborghini announced that it has achieved a new production record, building the 10,000 Gallardo at its factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

“Production of car number 10,000 is a very important milestone for Lamborghini,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “The Lamborghini brand is extreme, uncompromising and Italian, and the Lamborghini Gallardo has played an exemplary role in defining and delivering our brand reputation into our worldwide markets. Automobili Lamborghini celebrates production record with ten thousand Gallardo models

Automobili Lamborghini has achieved a new production record in 2010, with Gallardo number 10,000 rolling off the production line at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.

The V10 Lamborghini Gallardo, with its permanent four-wheel drive, has become the most successful Lamborghini model of all time. Starting with the original Gallardo Coupé launched in 2003, the model range was extended with Spyder and Superleggera models as well as special editions such as the Gallardo SE and Nera.

The current Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé was launched in 2007 with increased power denoted by its ’560′ badge, and permanent four-wheel drive signified by the ’4′. The same enhanced performance and technical modifications characterize the LP 560-4 Spyder, which was announced in 2008.

The limited edition two-wheel drive LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni was revealed in 2009 and at the most recent worldwide premiere at Geneva Auto Salon this year Lamborghini presented the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera: a lightweight version of the already lean Gallardo LP 560-4, with a top speed of 325 km/h and acceleration from 0-100 km/h of 3.4 seconds.

All clients are able to take advantage of the Ad Personam programme, which allows owners to customise further their Lamborghini car to create a unique super sports car.

The Lamborghini Gallardo has won numerous international awards for its dynamic performance, design and brand integrity, from media, international automotive groups and design councils. The Lamborghini Gallardo has been famously featured in music videos and films, and its client list features numerous celebrities, sports stars and VIPs.

Underground Racing - Twin-Turbo Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

There are a select few players in the market with production vehicles that hit a top speed higher than 250 mph; however, Lamborghini and Ferrari aren’t one of them. As consumer behavior takes an expected twist towards fuel-efficiency (and as governments set higher fuel-economy regulations), supercar manufacturers have vowed to offer more economical sports cars.

Well, thank god for people like Underground Racing, which recently exceeded 250 mph in their highly modified Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera with their 1500-WHP twin-turbo package.

The event took place at The Texas Mile, where Richard Holt piloted the twin-turbo Gallardo Superleggera to a top speed of 250.1 mph.

So you’re pretty rich and own a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and were pretty disappointed to see that Lamborghini finally released the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show because you’d much rather have the most exclusive Gallardo ever (yes, we know, we doubt anyone reading this article feels that way).

Either way, if you happened to be in this situation you may want to contact BF Performance. The tuning house has just released a set of new modifications for the Gallardo LP560-4 coupe and Spyder. The package consists of new body parts are made entirely of carbon fiber. The parts include new side skirts, rear diffuser, a rear wing and a set of wing doors.

After all the work, the weight of the LP560-4 is dropped by 101 lbs, as compared to the 154 pounds lost by the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera.

BF Performance says they also tuned the engine but didn’t provide any technical details.

In the Swiss city Zug, perfection has a different meaning than in the Italian town Sant”Agata Bolognese. While Lamborghini is satisfied with the Gallardo LP560-4, the Swiss have higher demands ““ at least the engineers at BF-performance. For them, the Gallardo is too innocent and neither dynamic nor individual enough. Therefore, they turn both the Coupé and also the Spyder into the GT600 which has a stronger performance, more self-confidence and looks more aggressive.

Optimised under-body aerodynamics is guaranteed by the side skirts and the rear diffuser which are both also made of carbon. The striking carbon rear wing renders additional down thrust. Its edged design perfects the design language of the Lamborghini and gives the Gallardo the finishing touch.

The wing doors render a significant amount of individuality, but are strictly limited to Lamborghini models with twelve-cylinder engines. Due to the refinement by BF-performance, also the GT600 with a V10 engine can be equipped with doors which are so typical for Lamborghini.

And of course the engineers also focused on the engine performance. BF-performance has confirmed the performance of the new automobile in an impressive race. On the Sachsenring round course, the GT600 even managed to beat the stronger Lamborghini Murciélago LP640-4 SV by an impressive lead of 0.6 seconds

For the special individualisation, BF-performance offers a unique amendment: it can be modified from a four-wheel drive car to a rear-drive super car. This way, the GT600 combines the exclusive feature of the Gallardo LP550-2 “Valentino Balboni” with increased performance. The new engine concept and 43 kilogramme of saved weight render a unique driving experience.

The interior also follows this dynamic maxim. Apart from the sports bucket seats, BF-performance also offers five-point belts, a roll-over cage and a carbon-ceramic braking system with which the GT600 meets the highest racing standards. BF-performance visually adjusts the interior to the increased dynamics. The manufactory uses carbon on the steering wheel, door handles, ventilation grids and even at the switch casings. The customer can even opt for carbon in his favourite colour.

BF-performance offers the entire car with all components either as the sporty Coupé GT600 or also as the Roadster GT600 Spyder.

The entire automobile confirms the perfection and passion for detail applied by BF-performance. The Lamborghini specialist has already gained experience with the predecessor model and now brings its art of engineering into perfection with the GT 600. Right before we rung in the New Year, we heard rumors that Lamborghini is planning a hardcore version of the Gallardo, known as the Gallardo LP570-4 SV (Super Veloce). We now have some photo renderings of what the LP570-4 SV could look like courtesy of Lamborghini Cars.

According to sources, Lamborghini plans on showing dealers and customers the car later this month. A public unveiling is scheduled for the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with deliveries to begin in May.

After the Gallardo LP570-4 SV Lamborghini plans on offering a hardcore rear-wheel-drive version of the supercar in early 2011.

Rumor has it that Lamborghini is planning a hardcore version of the Gallardo LP560-4 called the Gallardo LP570-4 SV (SuperVeloce). Insiders say that the model will be stripped down but will only push out 10 more horsepower than the base model. The front suspension will also see some work and carbon ceramic brakes are aslo expected. You can also look forward to seeing some aggressive body design cues.

Lamborghini will show dealers and VIPs the car sometime next month with a public unveiling at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Deliveries should begin around May.

The folks over at TeamSpeed say that the Gallardo LP570-4 SV won’t be the last version of the supercar before it goes under a redesign in 2012. A hardcore rear-wheel-drive version is also expected to debut sometime in early 2011.

edo competition, one of the world’s most respected tuners, has gotten its hands on the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and has changed the name to LP600/4. What does the 600 stand for?

Well, if you’re at all familiar with the way some automakers name their cars (especially tuners), then you should know that 600 stands for 600-hp. With a total of 422 lb-ft of torque, the edo competition LP600/4 goes from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 211 mph.

Visually, edo competition kept the upgrades subtle; however the tuner is offering 19-in three-piece racing wheels.

600 ““ 340 ““ 3.5 … No, these are not the dimensions of what Santa’s about to bring. These are the three most prominent figures of the new edo LP600/4.

600 stands for its power output, 340 for its top speed and 3.5 seconds is how long it takes to accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a dead stop.

edo competition has managed to improve performance by increasing power output to 600 horsepower at 7,970 rpm and the torque output to 572 Nm (422 ft-lb) at 6,845 rpm.

Another priority was to upgrade the suspension in order to improve drivability, driving dynamics and precision. edo competition achieved this by employing a newly developed sport suspension system, which is adjustable in compression and rebound damping. This technology allows for custom suspension setups that are ideally matched to a wide range of needs. The low friction shock absorbers and new spring rates were tested extensively on race tracks and high speed ovals, as well as on the road, because handling is not an area for compromise. The result has to be experienced to be believed…

Rounding off the sporty concept are 19 in. three-piece racing wheels with artificially-aged cast center-sections, hand-polished outer rims and 39 stainless steel screws. For the front axle the customer can specify stock tire dimensions or 235/35 ZR 19, while the rear wheels are shod with 305/30 ZR 19 Dunlop Sport Maxx rubber. With this solution edo competition enables its customers to reuse the factory tires on their new wheels.

Another, ever-intriguing topic at edo competition: “The voice”.

The new stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with butterfly valves is an attractive proposition. Not only is the sound level adjustable via remote, the exhaust also frees up 15 horsepower and lets the driver enjoy a whole new aural experience. As a welcome side effect, the edo exhaust system weighs 12 kg (26 lb) less than the original piece.

As a result of years of experience with high speed tests, edo competition has reinforced the front end of the edo LP600/4 with a new front spoiler lip, making 340 km/h (211 mph) runs into a relaxing affair.

As promised, lots of extra spice …

After spending a year with the Italian State Police, the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia ended up being totaled in an accident near Cremona this past weekend. The story goes that the driver of the Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia swerved to avoid a car that was exiting a gas station and ended up driving into a bunch of parked cars.

According to reports, the two officers in the Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia ended with some minor scratches.

The new model replaced the old Gallardo Police Car, which had clocked in close to 87,000 miles of patrol duty.
