According to a report coming out of the UK, Jaguar is seriously thinking of a hotter ‘S’ version of the XFR sedan. Executives inside Jaguar say that the 503-hp XFR is being ‘outgunned’ by new rivals such as the 552-hp BMW M5 and the 549-hp Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.

The recently launched Jaguar XKR-S is powered by a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 making 550-hp with a maximum torque of 502 lb-ft of torque, It goes from 0 to 60 mph comes in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph.

Reports suggest that a prototype was recently spotted on the Nurburgring.

Jaguar is hard at work to reinvigorate their image after nearly two decades of producing cars that were a little too reminiscent of past. As a result, most people think of Jaguars as luxurious “old-people mobiles.”

But truth be told, Jaguar has a lot of motorsport and high-performance history and pedigree. And to make sure that the future generations know of Jaguar as a performance model, the brand has just released a new television advertisement in the US featuring their latest and greatest high performance cars.

The XF’s update includes a revised interior with new front and rear seats and a new color lighting scheme. The revised interior also receives some new tech such as a newer version of the optional 1200W Bowers & Wilkins surround system and a completely revised infotainment system.

On the outside, the 510-hp XFR receives some revised body work that includes subtle changes to the R’s bespoke sporty look as well as the incorporation of the “J-Blade” daytime LED running lights that manufacturers have seemed to rip off from Audi. Either way, the end results XFR just make it even sexier.

XF Design

A sedan with the soul of a Jaguar sports car, the Jaguar XF has won accolades and enthusiastic fans across the globe for its dynamic abilities and dramatic appearance. Advances in lighting technology have allowed the new 2012 Jaguar XF model range to adopt the Jaguar design language introduced on the flagship Jaguar XJ sedan.

Revisions to the grille, hood, and front fenders, which incorporate new triangular side vents, give the car a more muscular appearance. The Jaguar XF Supercharged hood is fitted with louvers featuring the “supercharged” script, further distinguishing the vehicle from the naturally aspirated models. The XFR also receives its own unique styling to underline its performance potential.

The XF headlamps now incorporate bi-function HID xenon technology that allows them to be much slimmer and more compact while maintaining outstanding beam resolution. The lights incorporate LED daytime running lights arranged in a distinctive Jaguar ‘J-Blade’ signature.

The tail lamps have been redesigned and now extend onto the central portion of the trunk lid. These new units are full-LED for stop, tail light and turn signal functions and give the Jaguar XF a distinctive light signature at night. Separating the tail lights is a revised trunk lid trim with a gloss black lower edge for a cleaner appearance. The trunk also features a power latch on all models.

Three new paint colors and an expanded alloy wheels selection ranging from 18″ to 20″ provide the finishing touches to the revised styling.

XF Interior

Whether experienced from the driver or passenger seat, the cabin of the XF is a welcoming and stylish place in which to spend time, using high-end materials in a contemporary manner.

Continuing to feature dramatic ‘surprise and delight’ elements such as the JaguarDrive Selector that rises from the center console and air vents that rotate to their open position when the start button is pressed, the XF interior also receives a comprehensive update.

New seats and interior displays

Revised front and rear seats incorporate a ‘hoop’ design element on the seat and backrest that improves their appearance and support. New color combinations and veneers increase the personalization options available to buyers. All models receive a revision to the color scheme on the center console, dashboard, and steering wheel where buttons and switchgear have a more luxurious soft feel black paint finish, and the ‘Tungsten’ finish is replaced by a more contemporary ‘Aurora’ theme.

The XF incorporates a formidable amount of technology, but in true Jaguar fashion, it is integrated seamlessly into the function of the car. The primary interface is a seven-inch Touch-screen with a new polarizing filter for improved contrast. Additional buttons have been added below the touch-screen to switch instantly between different functions. The graphics palette has been revised, and is based on those in the Jaguar XJ. The instrument cluster information display is now a full-color TFT unit for greater resolution and clarity.

Cutting-edge technology

Three new audio systems are offered on the XF, all of which represent a significant upgrade. Headlining is a 1200W, 17-speaker premium surround sound system from British audio experts Bowers & Wilkins, which offers extraordinary clarity and sound reproduction.

All XF models are specified with a hard-drive based satellite navigation system that incorporates a ‘virtual’ CD changer allowing the owner to transfer 10 CDs at a time into the car’s memory storage and play them as if they were a physical music medium. The system now offers multiple options for connecting portable players; two USB ports, one which can be used for iPod® devices and the other for a USB or other MP3 digital music player, and Bluetooth® connectivity that allows music to be streamed from a smartphone.

The majority of the car’s functions can also be controlled from the driver’s seat by Jaguar’s Interactive Voice functionality, which provides an intuitive interface for hands-free operation.

Jaguar’s are known for their elegant and luxurious look – however, what if you want to get a little aggressive? The brand has just announced the Black Pack package for its XF sedan that offers a new dramatic appearance for customers that want their Jag to have a stronger and well… black visual impact.

“The Black Pack gives the XF a highly distinctive, very modern and a slightly edgy appearance,” said Geoff Cousins, Managing Director, Jaguar UK. “Since the Black Pack and Speed Pack were launched on the XKR sports car at the Geneva Motor Show, almost half of XKR coupe buyers have selected one or both options ““ double our original estimate ““ and we expect the Black Pack will generate just as much excitement amongst XF customers.”

The Black Pack package for the Jaguar XF features dark-grey 20-inch alloy wheels with diamond turned rims, a glass black grille and gloss black window surrounds. The package is available on the, XF Diesel S, the 5.0L naturally aspirated gasoline and XFR models, with prices starting at £950 ($1,349 USD).

Jaguar says that the XF Black Pack vehicles can only be specified with a color range chosen by Jaguar designers, including Polaris White, Spectrum Blue, Ultimate Black, Stratus Grey, Lunar Grey and Liquid Silver, plus Kyanite Blue and Salsa Red, which are colors unique to the XFR.

Jaguar has sold more than 100,000 units of the XF range since its launch in 2008.

It seems like Jaguar isn’t done with the XF just yet. According to Auto Motor und Sport, Jaguar is planning on an estate (or station-wagon for us Americans) version of the XF that will make its concept debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The model is expected to go into production shortly after carrying the same engine lineup as the XF sedan. Also, according to Auto Motor und Sport, Jaguar is working on a 510-hp XFR Estate that will compete with the BMW M5 Estate, Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG Estate and the Audi RS6.

Two diesel versions will also be offered with the XF Estate.

The 2010 Jaguar XFR is officially more powerful and cheaper than its rivals. Jaguar today announced the pricing on the 2010 XFR with a starting MSRP of $80,000. As you already know, power comes from a 5.4L AJ-V8 GEN III V8 making 510-hp and 461 lb-ft of torque.

That makes the XFR more powerful than the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG which start at $85,500 and $87,700 respectively.

Jaguar also announced pricing for the 2010 XKR which retails for $96,000 for the coupe and $102,000 for the Convertible.

Word on the street is that Jaguar is working on a new supercar. According to AutoExpress, Jaguar is hard at work on an all-new all-aluminum, 503-hp speedster called the XE. The car will become Jaguar’s new halo car with a 5.0L supercharged from the 2010 XFR.

Jaguar has denied the report but AutoExpress says to keep an eye for the car during an auto show in the next year and a half.

If Jaguar does go through with plans to produce the XE, the supercar will go up against rivals such as the Audi R8.

Jaguar has released two promos for its new high-performance 2010 Jaguar XFR and XKR sedan and coupe. Both models made their debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show earlier this week.

The 510-hp Jaguar XFR will take on rivals such as the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG while the XKR will take on the likes of the BMW M6. Both are powered by a 5.4L AJ-V8. That allows the XFR to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and the XKR in 4.6 seconds.

The first promo shows the XFR and the XKR in action and the second video shows the XFR prototypes 225.675 mph top speed run at Bonneville.

Both models will arrive in the later part of summer 2009.

Jaguar announced that during a secret speed trial at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, a Jaguar XFR prototype recorded a top speed of 225.675 mph, making it the fastest Jaguar ever – of course as you can see from the picture the running prototype had some minor aerodynamic and safety modifications to meet the requirements for Bonneville.

Power comes from the same supercharged 5.4L AJ V8 GEN III seen in the production model. Paul Gentilozzi, owner of Rocketsports Racing drove the XFR to its record-breaking run beating Jaguar’s previous speed record of 217.1 mph.

Modifications to the Bonneville model included a remapped ECU, modified air intake and exhaust system and a revised supercharger setting. If you plan on buying the production 510-hp Jaguar XFR that hits dealer ships later this year – don’t plan on topping the electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. Just enjoy going from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.

The 2010 XFR and the 2010 XKR are heating up Jaguar’s 2009 Detroit Auto Show display with 510-hp. While the Jaguar XFR takes on the high-performance sedans, the British automaker is offering the high-performance coupe enthusiasts with the Jaguar XKR.

Both are powered by a 5.4 AJ-V8 that makes a total of 510-hp with a maximum torque of 461 lb-ft and is mated to a 6-speed transmission.

A 6-speed transmission transfers all that power to the rear-wheels allowing the 2010 XFR to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds (0 to 62 mph in 4.9 secs) with a top speed that is electronically limited to 155 mph. The 2010 Jaguar XFR can go from 50 mph to 70 mph in just 1.9 seconds and can complete the quarter mile run in 13.1 seconds. Not many will worry about fuel-economy when purchasing the 2010 XFR – but if you are one of the few that care about what they pay at the pump, Jaguar says that the XFR will return a fuel-economy of 22.5 mpg UK (that’s 18.8 mpg in the U.S.).

Aside from the engine upgrade, the 2010 Jaguar XFR gets Active Differential Control and Adaptive Dynamics, an electronically controlled differential and suspension system that optimize traction, a faster steering ration and upgraded brakes.

How do you tell the XFR apart from the standard XF? Well, you can just take a look at the hood that has two large nostrils. Other changes include a larger lower girlle, larger air intakes, new side skirts, a new rear-bumper with dual-quad exhausts, new boot lip spoiler, 20-inch Nevis alloy wheels and of course the ‘R’ badge on the back. Inside, the 2010 XFR gets a dark mesh aluminum finish trim with 18×14-way adjustable sports seats with the ‘R’ logo, and red dial-pointers on the speedometer.

The 2010 Jaguar XFR will be offered in eight exterior colors including Ultimate Black, Indigo, Liquid Silver, Lunar Grey, Porcelain, Botanical Green, Kyanite Blue and Salsa. Sales will begin later this year. Stay tuned for pricing and availability details.
