Not too long ago, we provided news about new concept that Ford of Australia’s performance branch created. Called the FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles) Falcon GT Concept, the concept was their first-ever concept car. Basically, they took a standard run-of-the-mill Ford Falcon and stuffed a supercharged Boss 5.0L V8 in it. Now, FPV has announced that they will produce the FPV Falcon GT as the FPV GT Black Edition in very limited numbers.

“We were totally blown away by the positive feedback received from fans and show-goers on our Concept,” FPV General Manager Rod Barrett said. “We knew we had a winner with the black paintwork and we wanted to action something immediately. The public spoke and we listened and I am just thrilled we have been able to put the GT BLACK into production so quickly.”

The FPV GT Black is only available in one color, which I think you can guess what it is. The GT Black features the same all-aluminum Boss 335cu in 5.0L V8 that comes with a supercharger. The results are 449hp and 420 lb ft of torques.

The FPV GT Black hasn’t received an official launch date just yet, but the limited edition FPV will only be produced 125 times at a price of $74,290 AUS. So if you’re lucky enough to have the opportunity to scoop one of these up, do so quickly!

Press Release:

FPV ANNOUNCES GT BLACK LIMITED EDITION SERIES

FPV has today announced the launch of its most limited edition vehicle to date, the GT BLACK.

Responding to the overwhelming feedback received on the FPV Concept, revealed at this year’s Australian International Motor Show, FPV have taken the popular black-on-black treatment and applied the stealth-looking paintwork to just 125 units of the current standard supercharged Boss 335kW GT, creating the FPV GT BLACK.

“All the feedback received has been collated and the results present exciting possibilities for the FPV brand in the future. The GT BLACK is the beginning of some exciting times ahead as we continue to work on new product and design enhancements to reflect the needs and wants of the market.”

With all black finished styling, black alloy wheels, black tail pipes and all-new matt black striping decals the GT BLACK will display a striking presence on our roads.

“The FPV GT BLACK is available in one colour only, so there will be no confusion when it comes to placing an order for colour on this one”

The limited edition GT BLACK is powered by the much vaunted all-aluminium BOSS 335 5.0-litre supercharged engine with a maximum power output of 335kW at 5750rpm, combined with maximum torque of 570Nm delivered across a broad 2200-5500 rpm range.

The newest addition to the FPV stable will be finished in menacing Silhouette black paintwork and will carry the excellent features of the current GT range plus some exciting extras, including reverse camera and leather seating.

An all-new styling matt black stripe decal will feature on the bonnet, rear wing and bodysides, with the black paint treatment also carrying over on to the front and rear bumpers and upper and lower grilles.

The fog lamp bezels have also been made black, as have the exhaust tips, while completing the exterior will be GT premium five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black with black wheel nuts.

Inside the all black theme continues with black leather trim throughout, a black finish around the Interior Command Centre (ICC) unit, tissue box and door spears, and a unique black gear shift badge on manual transmission models.

Further enhancing the collectability of the GT BLACK, each vehicle will come with its own unique build badge and certificate of authenticity.

“With only 125 units available, we urge interested buyers to act quickly, with a number of vehicles already pre-sold.”

The recommended Manufacturer’s List Price* for the GT BLACK is $74,290, at participating FPV Dealers only.

*This is the manufacturer’s list price for the vehicle only. A number of other components, including a dealer delivery fee, stamp duty, registration, compulsory third party (CTP) insurance and other statutory charges may be payable by a customer in relation to the purchase of this vehicle. As a manufacturer, FPV is not able to quantify the amount of these charges as they vary depending on a range of factors and individual circumstances, including the FPV Dealer the customer purchases the vehicle from, the State or Territory where that customer purchases the vehicle and the customer’s age, driving record and other personal factors. The final transaction price for the vehicle will be as negotiated by the customer with their chosen FPV Dealer.

As Ford is doing well to close the significant gap between their offerings here in America and the superior efforts from Europe, one subsidiary of FoMoCo continues to go untouched by the push to become a more global player in the automobile industry.

Ford of Australia still continues to produce rear-wheel drive mass-market cars, many of which continue to be modern renditions of the muscle car, featuring big straight-sixes or V8 engines, rear-wheel drive, and proving not to be so terrible to drive—hint, Ford Australia’s Falcon.

And while Ford of America has the famous in-house tuning firm, SVT, Ford of Australia also has their own, called FPV or Ford Performance Vehicles. It’s their version of Holden’s HSV in-house tuning firm, which brought us the late Pontiac GTO and G8.

FPV unveiled their first-ever concept car at the Australian International Motor Show this week in Melbourne. The one-off concept is based on the Ford Falcon GT sedan and features a supercharged Boss 5.0L V8.

“Taking our iconic FPV GT, we have put together a package of performance and design enhancements to demonstrate what could be done by FPV in the future,” said Rod Barrett, Ford Performance Vehicles’ General Manager. “The black-on-black treatment looks spectacular and it really changes the look of the car, so I’ll be very interested to hear what FPV enthusiasts think.”

The FPV Concept also features track-tuned suspension with a stainless steel high-flow twin exhaust system. The brakes are upgraded to six-piston calipers up front and four-piston at the rear. The inside, just like the outside, receives a similar all-black treatment.

“We’ve equipped the vehicle with the GT’s ‘most ticked’ options, such as leather trim and reversing camera. That way, it’s a reflection of what our buyers are choosing and gives us a ‘real world’ basis to get people thinking,” said Barrett. “That’s what this concept car is about – we wanted to demonstrate the possibilities, explore the future and gauge public opinion to assist us with the evolution of FPV product.”

According to Australian publication Drive, Ford will abandon plans to build a new small car in Australia and instead will focus its resources on producing a 4-cylinder EcoBoost version of the existing Falcon. Ford confirmed earlier this week that a new 4-cylinder EcoBoost will be added to its lineup in 2010.

The engine will be the first EcoBoost engine to include Twin-Independent Variable Cam Timing and will deliver up to 20 percent fuel economy improvement when compared to V6 engines. Output is expected to come close to 230-hp.

Ford did not say which U.S. models will get the 2.0L 4-cylinder EcoBoost when it debuts next year. However, the company’s global product boss Derek Kuzak recently said that its 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine will finds its way in every car in its range by 2012. The engine will make its way to Australia in 2011.
