A Ferrari Enzo successor is in the works and is expected to arrive as early as next year. According to Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa, the Enzo successor will have a mid-mounted V12 and will use a carbon-fiber chassis.

Felisa said that the Enzo successor may also get hybrid technology and confirmed that the company “is testing hybrid prototypes.”

Click here for more news on the Ferrari Enzo.

Felisa said that Ferrari has gained a lot of knowledge from the development of the brand’s Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) in Formula One, which could become relevant to road cars. He said that the system must also focus on fuel-efficiency rather than just performance.

The next Ferrari Enzo was previously reported to be inspired by the Bugatti Veyron.

Here’s an unfortunate find. Remember the destruction of Saddam Hussein’s epic car collection, many of which included the destruction of a Porsche 993 Turbo S, an extremely rare Lamborghini LM002 SUV and supposedly a Mercedes-Benz 500K worth more than millions? Well this one is a little something like that.

A journalist stumbled upon a Ferrari Enzo rotting away in the desert of Dubai. Supposedly, the reason as to why cars like these end up sitting in the dust are from entrepreneurs who returned home after their business or real estate ventures failed.

It was said to have been found in a police impound, which means that the car will most likely be auctioned off and sent to a new owner who could fix it up. But they’d better have some deep pockets and lots of cash to spend because the Enzo is sitting in a part of the world where exterior temperatures often exceed 115 degrees F.

Only 399 Enzos have been officially sold to the public. With already a considerable amount of them dead from careless actions of their owners, the Ferrari Enzo could slowly be disappearing off of the face of the Earth.

Anybody want to fund a trip to Dubai and help us scoop it up and turn it over? Contact us (we’re just kidding…).

A Ferrari inspired by a Bugatti? Well, if Ferrari is understood correctly, the much-anticipated successor to the Ferrari Enzo has been shaped by the Bugatti Veyron.

“The world is a very different place to how it was when the Enzo was launched,” company sources told AutoCar. “It has moved on completely. And we are Ferrari – we do not take part to make up the numbers”

Previous reports have said that the successor to the Ferrari Enzo will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 pushing over 700-hp. Power will be transferred to the ground via a seven-speed sequential gearbox, with a dual-clutch setup. Other reports have even suggested that the next Ferrari Enzo will use the gasoline/hybrid technology shown in the Ferrari 599 GTB HY-KERS concept.

The Ferrari Enzo successor is expected to show up sometime in 2012.

While discarding rumors that he will soon leave the company, Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo let loose some details on what we can expect from the next-generation of vehicles from the Italian automaker.

“I want to shape the next product cycle at Ferrari to assure a bright future at a company that has been inextricably intertwined with my life,” Montezemolo said.

Talking about the next limited-edition supercar, Montezemolo said that the successor to the F40, F50 and Enzo, will be the cornerstone of future vehicles from the company. The model, which is due in 2012, will use the gasoline/hybrid technology shown in the Ferrari 599 GTB HY-KERS concept, which debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. That will help the model cut CO2 emissions by 35 percent along with the help of weight reducing technology previews in the 2007 Millechili concept.

“That car will incorporate the state of the art of our knowledge in terms of increasing performances while reducing fuel consumption and emissions. It will then influence all Ferraris that appear after it,” he said.

Ferrari is currently working on a special-series Enzo that is rumored to be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine. As exciting as that sounds, a twin-turbo V12 is probably what engineers at Ferrari really want to do. Well, a man by the name of Richard Losee has done just that.

Losee took his crashed Ferrari Enzo and restored and remade it to run at the Bonneville Speed Week in Utah this week. The restored Enzo features twin-turbocharged fitted to the 6.0L V12 engine making 850-hp (standard Enzo makes 651-hp) in low-boost of 11-12 lbs. The boost can be increased between 18 and 20 lbs with an output rating of 1,000-hp. Other modifications include slimmer tires and enhanced aerodynamics with a carbon fiber nose.

No word on what the top speed is but the standard Enzo hits 226 mph so you can use your imagination.

We recently heard reports that Ferrari has no plans to do 458 Italia Scuderia – well, if the guys at Motor Trend are to be believed, that’s not entirely true. According to Motor Trend, the same month Ferrari unveiled its 599 GTO, it confirmed that it will do a Scuderia version of the 458 Italia in 2013. However, before that, Ferrari will unveil its new V8 twin-turbo Enzo successor.

Reports suggest that the 458 Italia Scuderia will get parts of the aluminum body switched out for carbon fiber, as well as a lightened chassis. Because of the lengthy timeframe, Ferrari has not yet released performance numbers, or additional advancements, that the 458 Scuderia will receive.

Ferrari Enzo

As for the new Enzo, Ferrari’s boss has previously confirmed that the successor will receive a twin-turbo V8. The downsizing from the V12 does not, however, imply in any way a shortage on power: the new model has been pegged as having over 700 horses at its disposal. This power will go through a seven-speed sequential gearbox, with a dual-clutch setup to help with the general operating of the car.

Ferrari is also ready to move with the Enzo”s successor to a carbon-fiber body, though with less exclusive models Ferrari restated its commitment to aluminum. And Ferrari”s engineers are busy at work learning lessons from the 599 GTO and 599XX, fine-tuning the new monster”s aerodynamics and stability control; in fact, Ferrari believes that even the best drivers will be better served leaving the stability control on the New Enzo on. It seems that, with their successor to the Enzo, Ferrari is trying their hardest to show just what they can do, and it should be music to any gearhead”s ears. Ferrari will set the automotive world abuzz with this news- and, once it has a name, supercar manufacturers across the world may very well have a new gold standard.

Two weeks ago Fiat SpA CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed his 5-year business and product plan for the company. One of the many exciting things Sergio announced was that Ferrari will introduce a “new special series Enzo” in 2012.

According to Ferrari’s CEO Amedeo Felisa, the new special-series Enzo will be powered by a twin-turbo V8. Earlier reports suggested that the new Enzo will get either a V8 or direct-injected twin-turbo V6.

Speaking to AutoCar Felisa said:

There are no plans for a six-cylinder engine today. Ferrari will not build a six-cylinder engine until customer attitudes towards smaller engines change. The perception today is that the number of cylinders equates to the possibilities of the car. That is why we are developing hybrid technology that can be applied to our V8 and V10 cars. Hybrid means we can protect the V12.

Sergio also said that Maserati is working on a sub-Quattroporte sedan that will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5-Series. Hey, if Aston Martin can do a subcompact based on the Toyota iQ (Aston Martin Cygnet), than Maserati should be allowed to compete with luxury mid-size sedans.

Marchionne also confirmed that a new Quattroporte is in the works.

edo competition seems to have a fetish with the Ferrari Enzo. They revealed a tuning package last year that increased horsepower of the 660-hp supercar to 700-hp. Somewhere in the middle, edo competition also revealed a performance package that took horsepower up to 800. While that would be enough for many Enzo owners (and there aren’t many) out there, edo felt it could get a little more out of the ultimate Ferrari.

edo decided to increase displacement to 6.3L, added new camshafts, new titanium valve springs, modified cylinder heads, high flow catalytic converters, a more powerful oil pump, high performance exhaust headers and we’ll stop before start sounding like Megan Fox from Transformers. All that increased output by 180 to a total of 840-hp with a maximum torque of 575 lb-ft.

The edo competition Enzo XX Evolution now goes from 0 to 62 mph to come in just 3.2 seconds with a top speed of more than 242 mph.

Something makes us feel like edo still isn’t done with the Enzo.

Press Release:

edo competition Enzo XX Evolution

840 horsepower and 100 kilograms (220 lb) lighter

The Ferrari Enzo with its 660 horsepower is arguably one of the most exclusive cars in the world, both in terms of its driving dynamics and purchase price. Those looking for something considerably faster and more exclusive choose the edo Enzo XX Evolution.

A bump in displacement from 6.0 to 6.3 liters, new camshafts, new titanium valve spring retainers and connecting rods, modified cylinder heads, new high performance exhaust headers, high flow catalytic converters, mufflers and air filters: that’s the scope of edo competition’s engine modifications. The standard hydraulic tappets are replaced with newly developed solid tappets, enabling the 12 cylinder engine to rev to an incredible 9,600 rpm. This is unmatched by any other 12 cylinder engine at this time! Additionally the intake system of the V12 was modified, a new high performance clutch – available with “žstrada” or “žpista” friction pads – and a more powerful oil pump were installed. The power output is increased by 180 to 840 horsepower. Without mufflers more than 860 horsepower is possible. The maximum torque of 780 Nm (575 ft-lb) is available at 5,800 rpm.

While the power output is increased, the Enzo’s weight is decreased by a respectable 100 kilograms (220 lb). The result in numerical terms is that the edo Enzo XX Evolution accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.0 seconds and 300 km/h in just 19 seconds. The top speed exceeds 390 km/h (242 mph).

The acoustical side of things is obviously not being neglected. A stainless steel muffler featuring remote-controlled butterfly valves is available on request. This setup lets the driver switch the high performance exhaust between two different sound levels.

Astonishing transmission shift times: While the production Enzo takes 110 milliseconds, the edo Enzo XX Evolution shift times were reduced to an incredible 60 milliseconds! For comparison, an F1 car shifts in 40 milliseconds.

The edo/KW race suspension from the FIA GT series was retuned for the Enzo XX Evolution, promising ultimate driving dynamics. The nose lift functionality is retained. The low-friction 3-way adjustable shock absorbers can be adjusted to the individual tastes of the driver and provide excellent steering precision and feedback. The edoinstalled tire pressure monitoring system displays the pressures for each of the four wheels. Providing ample grip for the edo Enzo XX Evolution are 19 inch front wheels and 20 inch rear wheels with 335 mm wide tires. The drive shafts were replaced due to the higher propulsive forces acting on them. The new units are 4 kg (8.8 lb) lighter and considerably more robust in order to cope with the enormous power increase.

The aerodynamics package is absolutely unique.

It includes a complete exhaust system with tips machined from billet aluminum, now relocated to the top of the body. The tips are plasma-coated using a special process. The newly developed rear skirt featuring winglets and a rear wing profile, adjustable in 3 steps, improves the ground effect and can be tuned to the tastes of the driver. The new retractable rear wing is upgraded with a taller flap resulting in increased downforce and stability, especially at high speeds. New LED tail lights round off the rear view of the car.

A test day with an instructor, mechanics, data logging, transport and hospitality is included in the conversion package.

All modifications are carried out exclusively at edo competition Motorsport GmbH in Ahlen.

16th Ferrari Enzo burns to crisp: We’ve seen many destroyed Ferrari’s in our blogging career – however, we never actually kept a record of which Ferrari and how many have went up in flames. This Ferrari Enzo you see here was destroyed in Okanagan Falls, British Columbia, Canada. According to our friends at WreckedExotics, this marks the 16th Ferrari Enzo that has been wrecked out of 399 produced. You can check out a video and more pictures over at WreckedExotics.

ABC covers the life of a car spy: We’re not huge fans of spy shots here at egmCarTech (to be honest we’d rather see a finished car in all its glory rather than covered in some hideous camouflage). However, if spy shots are something that floats your boat, you’ve probably heard the name Brenda Priddy. She is basically considered the best car spy photographer out there. ABC did a nice little piece on Brenda this past Monday. Check it out here (because ABC doesn’t allow embedding of their YouTube clips).

Wrapping up the month here at egmCarTech, it is our last Miscellaneous Thoughts post for June – so here we go.

BMW releases more X1 teasers: BMW has released four additional teasers for its upcoming BMW X1 on its Facebook fan page. These are the third round of teasers prior to the compact SUVs debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Are you getting sick of these as much as we are? We thought so. – Facebook

BMW X1 Teasers:

Youngest Ferrari Enzo owner is only 23-years old: We’re pretty satisfied with where we’ve end up in our lives. We get to test drive some of the world’s hottest cars and are surrounded by our passion 24 hours a day. However this piece of ‘news’ has everyone here getting pretty depressed about their achievements. Yes, the youngest owner of a $1.2 million Ferrari Enzo is only 23-years old and owns a record company. He also just picked up a Rolls-Royce Phantom. – EDGE (via Jalopnik)

Cash for Clunkers final rules coming July 23: The U.S. Transportations said it will announce the final rules for the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program on July 23 and warned dealers that they are legally responsible for trade-ins finalized before that date. The legislation was signed into law by President Barack Obama last week. – Automotive News
