Power was even upgraded with a turbo kit, a custom crankshaft, bigger injection nozzles, and an upgraded exhaust. This adds up to an impressive 606-hp that allows it to go up to 202 mph and gets you from 0-62 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

DMC’s California 3S made its debut on November 24th at the Top Marques show in Macau.

As if it weren’t quick enough, Ferrari will make a very successful car even quicker: the 2012 California will pick up 30 bhp, lose 66 pounds, 10 more gb on the internal hard drive and will have a 50 percent quicker suspension response rate, should one choose the new handling package. The biggest point though may not have anything to do with the new upgrades: 80 of California buyers are new to Ferrari.

Ferrari seem to have seriously outdone themselves on the California: a car weighing nearly two tons (3,758 lbs) now gets to 60 in under four seconds thanks to a high revving 4.3 liter V8 and a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission, which by the way is the only transmission offered.

Dampers have been upgraded too, response time is 5 ms and time between soft rebound and hard is only 8 ms. Naturally Ferrari claims better roll control and sharper steering.

On the electronics side of things, the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy sync seamlessly with the car and the ECU will allow the car to run on both 93 and 91 octane, though the power output is reduced a bit on 91. Prices for the 2011 start at $237,000, so expect that to go up next model year.

Kahn, a UK tuner company, has given a mild package to the Ferrari California.

The supercar gets a fresh set of forged Monza wheels that are matte black in color, and sized at 21-inches in the front, and 22-inches on the rear.

Click here for more news on the Ferrari California.

Interior upgrades include and infotainment system, instrument panel, steering wheel, and seats.

Tuner a motor like this almost seems like a pointless task, however, a sports suspension, and an enhanced version of Ferrari’s F1-Trac have been included in the tune.

Fiat SpA’s Ferrari unit announced today that had the best six months in its life during the first half of 2011. The supercar manufacturer posted a record revenue of $1.1 billion for the first six months of this year and delivered a record 3,577 units or 11.8 percent more than the the first half of 2010.

Sales in the United States were up 23.9 percent to 939. That keeps U.S. as the number 1 market for the brand. China is now second with sales up 116 percent to 378 vehicles.

“These results come thanks to the success of the two 12-cylinder limited series – the 599 GTO and the SA Aperta – and the strong performance of the 8-cylinder models with the California the standard-bearer in the GT sector and the 458 Italia the benchmark in the sports car area,” Ferrari said in a statement.

Wondering how the Ferrari FF is doing? Well, the FF hasn’t yet made any contribution to the company’s results. Deliveries of Ferrari’s first four-wheel-drive four-seater have just begun.

“If the trend for the first six months continues at these levels in the second half of the year, 2011 will be remembered as one of the best in Ferrari’s history, taking us back to the record results of 2008. This is a demonstration of the soundness of the strategy we’ve adopted in terms of market expansion and constant product innovation,” commented Luca di Montezemolo. “Furthermore, we also recently began deliveries of the new FF and we’re taking our first orders from India – the impact of both of these factors will only be seen in the second half of 2011.”

Ferrari recently started offering a free 7-year standard maintenance program in Europe. Other markets will get it as well for all models including the 2011/2012 Ferrari California, Ferrari 458 Italia and the new Ferrari FF.

“If you can imagine it, we can build it.”… the possibilities for this tag line are endless, yet it is the proposed tag line for Ferrari’s latest venture.

Ferrari, lagging behind Porche in this department, is now offering a customization program to an elite group of clientele that knows no limits. Fiat fortune heir Lapo Elkan has purchased his own special version, already.

At present, there is no official word on the program. Expect to see more released on this soon, though.

There is no debate that Ferrari owners buy the company’s supercars only for their exclusivity and performance. I highly doubt that they care about how the brand is cutting CO2 emissions, but if they do, they’ll be pleased to know that Ferrari is making the most significant progress of Europe’s high-end supercar makers in reducing its lineup’s CO2.

Ferrari recorded an average of 326 g/km last year, down 46 g/km, according to figures from JATO Dynamics. JATO releases an yearly report into the European industry’s progress towards a 130 g/km fleet average.

JATO said that Ferrari’s cut is equal to 12 percent, which is about half the total reduction that mass automakers are expected to make by 2015.

How did Ferrari’s rivals match up? Aston Martin managed a reduction of 0.6 percent, Lamborghini came in with a 1.5 percent reduction and Bentley dropped 1.9 percent.

Usually when automakers add fuel-efficiency into the mix of producing a vehicle – they normally do so by reducing the overall performance of the car. That is not the case here. Ferrari introduced its new HELE system at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and the first model to get the system is the Ferrari California.

HELE, which stands for High Emotion Low Emissions, allows the California to produce 299 g/km of CO2 on the combined ECE+EUDC cycle while boosting performance. Overall, emissions falls by up to 23 percent. Ferrari says that all solutions used to cut emissions also boost performance.

“In fact, in terms of the cooling system, the introduction of the brushless motor and continual fan speed control has allowed the Ferrari technicians to decrease current absorption and cut the system”s weight by over 2 kg as well as reduce aerodynamic drag by 5 per cent at high speeds,” Ferrari said.

Thee Ferrari California is also the first model from the Italian automaker to feature the new Stop&Start system which increases fuel-consumption and restarts the car in just 230 milliseconds.

Not a bad deal at all.

Press Release:

Ferrari California with the HELE system

HELE system technical description

The 2010 Paris Motor Show provides the backdrop to Ferrari”s presentation of the new HELE (High Emotion Low Emissions) system designed to reduce the environmental impact of its cars whilst boosting their performance and driving pleasure.

The first model to benefit from the HELE system is the Ferrari California which, at launch, produced 299 g/km of CO2 on the combined ECE+EUDC cycle. Thanks to the HELE system, however, that figure has been drastically reduced and the Prancing Horse convertible now produces just 270 g/km. However, emissions fall by up to 23 per cent over an urban cycle that represents real-life use by a client.

The Maranello engineers are tackling the emissions challenge by optimising the existing technological content of the car and by introducing innovations designed to reduce its energy requirements (vehicle efficiency) and increase the amount of power generated (engine efficiency).

Together with the Stop&Start system, HELE incorporates new intelligent engine fan and fuel pump control, electronic air-conditioning compressor displacement control and a gear-shift pattern that adapts to driving style.

All of these solutions cut emissions and boost sportiness. In fact, in terms of the cooling system, the introduction of the brushless motor and continual fan speed control has allowed the Ferrari technicians to decrease current absorption and cut the system”s weight by over 2 kg as well as reduce aerodynamic drag by 5 per cent at high speeds.

The fuel pump capacity is controlled constantly by the engine CPU to limit power demands on the alternator, while intelligent air-conditioning compressor displacement control slashes the amount of torque absorbed by the system by 35 per cent and makes for more rapid, efficient cabin cooling.

The result of these refinements is that, under normal running conditions, the engine can avail of an extra 25 Nm of torque which in turn boosts responsiveness.

With regard to the transmission, in automatic mode the gearbox CPU automatically identifies the driving style being used and adapts the gear shifts to match. If, for instance, it recognises a driving style that demands moderate torque at low engine speeds (typical of city driving), it optimises the gear shifts to cut fuel consumption. If, however, a sportier driving style is adopted, then gear shifting becomes more high performance too. There is also a pedal map for each gear to guarantee maximum responsiveness to even small amounts of pressure on the accelerator and very precise torque delivery at all times.

Added to this, the California is the first Ferrari to sport the Stop&Start system which restarts the car in just 230 milliseconds, so that there is no impingement at all on driveability. Once again, the technicians” goal with this technology was to improve fuel consumption levels and sportiness in tandem. They have done so using features designed specifically to allow the driver to restart the engine not just by releasing the brake pedal, but also by using the accelerator pedal (ideal for people who left-foot brake) or the UP paddle mounted on the steering wheel.

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show later this month, Ferrari is rumored to introduce a ‘green’ California. Details are a bit vague right now but according to OmniAuto the model won’t be a hybrid.

The green Ferrari California will instead have improved direct injection system, low friction engine components, multi-cylinder deactivation, and a regenerative braking system like the HY-KERS concept, which debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

The Ferrari 599 GTB HY-KERS Concept carried a number of fuel-saving technologies including a high-voltage lithium-ion powered electric-motor mated to the rear of the dual-clutch 7-speed F1 transmission. At the time, Ferrari said that the concept is one of the solutions it is studying into making its road-going cars more fuel-efficient.

Stay tuned for more details.

The Ferrari California was, by the Italian company”s standards, considered a relatively tame car: the front engined, four seater V8 has filled a GT niche for Ferrari. To accommodate this niche, Ferrari had to turn down the vehicle”s raw power compared to its brothers.

To rectify this, tuning company Anderson Germany has created a new performance and styling package for the California, to help the California run more closely alongside other contemporary supercars.

The package adds a new ECU and exhaust system that adds 55 horsepower, to bump the package up to a total of 508 horsepower. In addition to the modifications to the 4.3 L engine, Anderson Germany drops weight by tacking on carbon fiber: the hood, as well as front skirt, side skirt, and rear diffuser and bumper all come in a new carbon fiber format. Darkened taillights and bigger rims complement the increased speed by adding an intimidating image to a now justifiably intimidating machine. Finally, ride height can be lowered by 35 mm or raised by 40 mm to help drive with more speed or clear speed humps. All of these cosmetic changes, as well as the optional extras for trim inside, make Anderson Germany”s reimagined Ferrari California a prancing stallion worth capturing.

At his presentation about Fiat Group’s 5-year business plan in Turin, Italy, CEO Sergio Marchionne said that Ferrari will launch four new models within the next three years. Fiat SpA owns 85 percent of the Italian supercar manufacturer. Marchionne said that Ferrari’s future products for the next five years will focus on increased product differentiation to target a wider consumer base.

The models include a spider variant of the Ferrari 458 Italia and a replacement for the 612 Scaglietti, both due in 2011. Ferrari will also work on a successor of the 599 GTB and will offer a limited-edition version of the Enzo in 2012.

A facelifted Ferrari California will follow in 2013.

Marchionne predicted that the operating margin of Ferrari will increase 15 percent in 2014 from 11.4 percent in 2009.

If you were a big fan of the 1980s, then there is no way you don’t know the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. The most famous scene from the movie was when Alan Ruck (known as Cameron Frye in the movie) beat the hell out of a Ferrari California Spyder, which hurt the feelings of many enthusiasts around the world. Well, worry not, because the only way Paramount Pictures allowed Ruck to beat the hell out of a Ferrari was simple: it wasn’t a Ferrari.

The car was really a MG that was topped with a fiberglass Ferrari body to look like the real thing.

The current owner of the car, Bonhams of London, is now ready to sell it. Bonhams expects the car to go for about $40,000 to $54,000 according to its online catalog.

Nonetheless, Matthew Broderick, who played Ferris in the movie, recently told New York Magazine that he will not be bidding on the car. Why?

“It was a kit car. We had a real Ferrari that we looked at in the garage, but when we drove, it was not real, and that”s what this is. My memory of that car is that it often didn’t start. That’s all I remember – which I probably shouldn’t say; I don’t want to bring the price down. But, uh, it was unreliable, that car.”

Novitec Rosso has unveiled its new tuning package for the new Ferrari California. The modifications feature a new aerodynamic bodykit, suspension modifications, 21 and 22 inch wheel choices and power upgrades.

Using the first Novitec Rosso tuning stage, the 4.3L V8 engine now produces an extra 40-hp for a total of 550-hp with a maximum torque of 328 lb-ft. Novitec did not release any performance figures but we’re guessing that the upgrades give the Ferrari California a respectable boost. The extra power comes courtesy of a recalibrated engine management system with some custom mapping for injection and inanition, including a new redline speed at 8,300 rpm. The package also includes a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with metal catalysts and a flap actuator operated from the Manettino switch on the steering wheel.

To reduce lift on the rear axle of the California, Novitec added a redesigned diffuser for the rear apron and a spoiler lip on the trunk lid.

Check out more details in the press release posted after the jump.

Press Release:

NOVITEC ROSSO Refines the Ferrari California

Styling, Wheels, Suspension, Engine and Interior

Sporty styling, a custom-tailored tire/wheel combination with diameters of 21 and 22 inches, suspension modifications, more power and exclusive interior options: NOVITEC ROSSO now also refines the new Ferrari California.

Tasteful refinements with aerodynamic benefits characterize the NOVITEC ROSSO design program for the sports car from Maranello. All aerodynamic-enhancement components are made from especially lightweight yet high-strength clear-coated carbon fiber.

The NOVITEC ROSSO front spoiler attaches to the production bumper and lends the sports car an even more striking face. Its sophisticated shape further reduces lift on the front axle for even better directional stability at high speeds.

The sides are upgraded with striking NOVITEC ROSSO rocker panel moldings for an even more clearly defined racing look. Black side markers add further individual highlights.

To reduce lift on the rear axle and thus achieve an optimal aerodynamic balance NOVITEC ROSSO equips the California with a newly designed diffuser for the rear apron and a spoiler lip on the trunk lid.

Three-piece NOVITEC ROSSO NF3 wheels also play a major role in the even more stunning appearance of the refined Ferrari. By choosing a staggered combination of size 9Jx21 wheels in front and size 11.5Jx22 on the rear axle NOVITEC ROSSO further emphasizes the wedge shape of the car. Technology partner Pirelli supplies high-performance tires custom-tailored to this Ferrari. The front axle features tires in size 255/30 ZR 21. In the rear tires in size 315/25 ZR 22 provide optimal traction.

NOVITEC ROSSO sport springs are custom-calibrated to match these ultra-low-profile tires, and lower the ride height by some 35 millimeters. At the same time the NOVITEC ROSSO specialists have developed an additional feature to further improve the everyday utility of the Ferrari California. The NOVITEC ROSSO hydraulic front lift system raises the front of the car by some 40 millimeters at the push of a button in the interior. That allows drivers to safely navigate parking garage ramps or speed bumps. At a second push of the button or automatically when reaching a speed of 80 km/h the front reverts to its original position.

Even faster throttle response and more power characterize the first NOVITEC ROSSO tuning stage for the Ferrari California, which increases power output of the 4.3-liter V8 engine by 40 hp / 29.4 kW to 500 hp / 368 kW. Simultaneously peak torque grows from 485 to 518 Nm at 5,300 rpm.

This injection of extra power comprises on the one hand a newly calibrated engine management system with custom mapping for injection and ignition, including a new higher redline speed of 8,300 rpm. The tuning package also includes the NOVITEC ROSSO stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with metal catalysts and a flap actuator operated from the Manettino switch on the steering wheel.

NOVITEC ROSSO fulfills customer demands for interior customization with perfectly finished leather and Alcantara interiors. The choice of available colors and meticulously sewn upholstery designs is virtually unlimited.

During a parade lap at the Italian automaker’s Ferrari World Final, CEO Luca di Montezemolo managed to get a new Ferrari California stuck in a gravel trap on the track in Valencia, Spain. Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were on board waving to the crowd as Montezemolo randomly turned the steering wheel and ended up in the gravel pit.

Embarrassing? Yes. Nonetheless, Ferrari had another California waiting for Montezemolo to continue his parade lap.

It’s not as if the Ferrari California isn’t already one of the sexiest and most powerful cars on the road; however, Hamann felt it could do a little more with some modifications.

The designers added some visual upgrades including a carbon fiber hood, a new front spoiler, new side skirts, a back spoiler, a three-part rear diffuser and 21-inch HAMANN aluminum wheels. Hamann is also offering numerous interior modifications to have your California fit your taste.

Power comes from Ferrari’s 4.3L v8 engine with output increased by 20 percent for a total of 525-hp.

Press Release:

Refining super sports cars is more than just business for the company HAMANN Motorsport. Their passion for detail, for something special and unique is the main incentive for extraordinary modifications. The latest stroke of genius once again confirms this. The HAMANN interpretation of the Ferrari California with its exclusive and extensive refining programme does not only make the hearts of real Ferrari fans beat faster.

Most of all, the car body kit proves that HAMANN does not only focus on changing the visual appearance. Apart from design elements such as a bonnet made of carbon fibre, specific modifications at the front, sides and back boost the aerodynamics. Thereby, the front spoiler reduces the lifting forces of the California which significantly improves the handling and agility. Moreover, the unobtrusive side skirt set calms the airflow between both axles. And moreover, a back spoiler increases the contact pressure. Here, the HAMANN engineers agreed on a small wing profile which considerably enhances the car body design. As the combination with the perfectly integrated and three-part rear diffuser renders enough grip for the road. Mainly on country roads with many curves, the HAMANN aerodynamics kit unravels its power and generates pure driving pleasure.

The extra agility and handling gives room for more performance. Also here, HAMANN-Motorsport contributes its know-how. An adjustment for the motor management is in preparation and a sport exhaust system will also be especially engineered for this sports car. This combination will advance the performance of the serial 4.3 litre V8 engine with 460 hp by up 20 percent.

Another technical highlight in the offered tuning programme is the multi-part HAMANN aluminium wheel called EDITION RACE. The black varnished rim star and the titanium bolting of the high-gloss polished rim flange emphasise the racing character. As the wheel is produced in forged technology, it is extremely light. This reduces the unsprung masses which noticeably improves both the acceleration and the braking response. The recommended wheel-tyre combination measures

9.0Jx21 inches with 245/30ZR21 tyres for the front and 12.5Jx21 rims with wheels measuring 345/25ZR21 are fitted at the back. The wheel-tyre combination is perfectly enhanced by the suspension which is used in order to lower the sports car.

Also in the interior, HAMANN has a lot to offer to its customers. In addition to the serially offered interior, HAMANN Motorsport offers an extensive programme, ranging from personalised floor mats to a perfectly finished complete leather interior.
