The company asked its Facebook community to submit profile pictures to be part of a mosaic on a Porsche model.

“Our fans were asked to vote for their favorite historic racing livery,” Porsche said. “They chose the iconic Porsche 917 K with the red-white Salzburg livery, known best for delivering Porsche’s first overall victory in Le Mans with Richard Attwood and Hans Herrmann behind the wheel.”

Over the weekend, FoMoCo launched a new Facebook campaign for the 2013 Ford Mustang prior to its debut at the 2011 LA Auto Show later this week. The campaign consisted of Mustang fans sharing the ‘Ford Mustang’ badge on Facebook. Every time 5,000 fans shared the badge Ford would reveal a teaser images of the 2013 Mustang.

Well, it seems like the Internet couldn’t wait for Ford to release the teasers and now all images have been leaked.

“It looks like the passion our Ford Mustang fans have for 2013 has lead to an early reveal of all four Mustang images,” Ford said in a Facebook status update. “But we’re not done yet! Come back on 11/15/2011 for the FULL reveal of our entire 2013 Mustang lineup!”

Want to start seeing the 2013 Ford Mustang? Ford has launched a new badge sharing service on Facebook that will allow us to see pieces of the new Mustang before its world debut.

For every 5,000 fan that shares the Ford Mustang badge, the company will release an image of the new 2013 Mustang.

So far, 6,236 fans have shared that badge and Ford has released one image of the grille. Of course, the full car won’t be seen until its world debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show in January.

Hennessey Performance isn’t holding off on letting us know that they are prepared to offer performance upgrades and other modifications to the upcoming 2012 Ford Focus ST, when it goes sale next year.

The tuner of all things American muscle will definitely do the Focus ST right when it hits roads.

So far we know that the 2012 Ford Focus ST will be powered by a 2.0 liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine making 247-hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. We expect Hennessey to offer somewhere north of 300-hp.

As the U.S.’s best selling sports car for two consecutive years, the Chevrolet Camaro’s popularity goes beyond the road, to being Facebook’s most-popular vehicle, as well.

With more than 1.8 million fans for the official page, the Camaro has more than any other car. Proving that Chevrolet has reached a younger market, of the 1.8 million fans, 60 percent of them are in the age range of 18 to 34.

Carolin Probst-Iyer is the digital consumer engagement manager for Chevrolet, and she comments that “The community that has grown around the Camaro is truly remarkable. With nearly 2 million fans, people are constantly posting new photos and content, which in turn inspires comments and engagement from other fans. As a result, the community provides an invaluable way for us to communicate directly with the most passionate Camaro enthusiasts and to understand what they like most about their favorite sports car.”

Since 2010 the Camaro has been outselling the Ford Mustang, and may do so by over 10,000 units between January and August this year. Chevrolet expects the model to continue to gain more popularity with the 2012 launch of the Camaro ZL1, and the Transformers Edition Camaro coming out this fall. The ZL1 model is going to be released at an impressive 550-hp, making it the most powerful Camaro to date.

Toyota is working on its own version Facebook and Twitter… well, almost. The Japanese automaker announced today that it is building ‘Toyota Friend,’ a private social network for Toyota customers and their cars.

Powered by Salesforce Chatter and Microsoft, the private social network used by businesses, and will be offered, first in Japan, initially with Toyota’s electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles due in 2012.

As described by Toyota:

“Toyota Friend will be a private social network that connects Toyota customers with their cars, their dealership, and with Toyota. Toyota Friend will provide a variety of product and service information as well as essential maintenance tips, creating a rich car ownership experience. For example, if an EV or PHV is running low on battery power, Toyota Friend would notify the driver to re-charge in the form of a “tweet”-like alert. In addition, while Toyota Friend will be a private social network, customers can choose to extend their communication to family, friends, and others through public social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. The service will also be accessible through smart phones, tablet PCs, and other advanced mobile devices.“

“Social networking services are transforming human interaction and modes of communication,” said TMC President Akio Toyoda. “The automobile needs to evolve in step with that transformation. I am always calling for Toyota to make ever-better cars. The alliance that we announce today is an important step forward in achieving that goal.”

To commemorate a loyal customer fan base, Honda is showing some love through “We’re Fans of You Too” week on Facebook. Since the birth of Facebook page, many fans have poured in photographs, videos and there undying love for the Honda brand. With the ever-growing fan base Honda has swiftly reached a one million fan base on Facebook

BMW i Website

While we won’t see the first BMW i vehicle until 2013, BMW Group is wasting no time in getting the word out about its new alternative fuel sub-brand. The company has just launched a new website, Facebook page and a Twitter account where interested customers and fans can go to learn more about BMW i’s offerings.

BMW i’s first vehicle will debut in 2013. Known as the BMW i3 (previously know as the Megacity), the compact electric-car will be powered by a 35 kWh lithium-ion battery, which will fuel a 150-hp electric-motor that will turn the rear-wheels. BMW plans on producing 30,000 units of the i3 a year.

Ford is taking its electrified vehicle game to the social media arena; it has introduced a Facebook page dedicated to its electric technologies and the five vehicles thereof that it will introduce. The page is part of Ford’s consumer education campaign, and can be found at www.facebook.com/FordElectricVehicles.

“People who are passionate about electrified vehicles or just interested in learning more about the technology are using the Internet as the source to participate in discussions or gather information,” said David Finnegan, Ford electric vehicles marketing manager. “Launching a Ford-specific Electrified Vehicle Facebook page allows us to create a forum for discussion and a place where we can interact with fans.”

The page will offer consumers links to videos and photos of Ford’s electric fleet, as well a place to learn about electric powertrain technologies. There will also be discussion space, polls, and a means for customers to interact directly with Ford by asking them questions.

Refresher: The 2012 Ford Focus Electric is powered by a 100-kilowatt electric-motor with a 23 kWh batter. Working together the system produces 123-hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. Ford says that the Focus Electric can travel at a top speed of 84 mph and has a total range of up to 100 miles on a single charge. With the 240-volt home charging station, the 2012 Ford Focus Electric can reach full charge in 3 to 4 hours. On a standard 120-volt outlet, the Focus Electric will take up to 20 hours.

Jeep Hits 1 million fans on Facebook

Chrysler Group LLC announced today that the Jeep brand is the first domestic automotive brand to reach more than 1 million Facebook fans. By hitting more than  1 million fans on its Facebook page, the Jeep brand exceeds the next closest domestic automotive brand fan’s total by more than 450,000.

“We are honored to be the first and only domestic automotive brand that can claim more than 1 million Facebook fans,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. “This reinforces the fact that Jeep is clearly one of the most well-known and loved brands throughout the world, and comes as we continue to gain sales momentum and begin to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the brand.”

Facebook Fans Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid

Porsche’s Facebook fan page has reached its one-millionth fan on the social networking site. Celebrating the huge milestone, Porsche museum presented a 911 GT3 R Hybrid with the signatures of more than 27,000 fans of the brand.

“The 911 GT3 R Hybrid was chosen for this extraordinary signature-gathering campaign because it impressively embodies the future of motorsport – with Porsche Intelligent Performance,” Porsche said in a statement. “The all-new hybrid system developed specially for use in a racing car has little in common with conventional hybrid systems as far as its design and componentry go.”

Refresher: Power for the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid comes from a flywheel system unlike a conventional battery-electric hybrid system. In this case, electrical front axle drive with two electric motors developing 161-hp, supplementing the 480-hp 4.0L inline-6 that powers the two rear-wheels. The flywheel system gathers kinetic energy under braking to fuel the two electric-motors and after each boost of charge, the two motors provide 6 to 8 second jolts of power.

Living on the forefront of the American auto industry, Ford is making a move away from major traditional broadcast advertising in favor of the digital world; primarily in the form of social media.

“Customers are spending as much time with the mobile smart phone or online as they are watching TV now, so our advertising dollars have to flow to where the people are,” Ford”s marketing chief Jim Farley said.

Farley, who is seen as a potential successor to Ford chieftain Alan Mulally, said that the Super Bowl represents a fantastic opportunity – for unknown brands. Under him, Ford has spent 25% of its media budget the last two years on digital. That figure is twice of what J.D. Power says will be the average spent on digital media in 2012.

Farley also notes the great success he had with promoting the Ford Fiesta online, and the greater exposure he had than competitors such as Honda and Toyota with their Fit and Yaris models. He also spent one tenth of what he would have otherwise spent on traditional media streams.

Porsche Facebook Page

In hopes to keep itself safe from industrial espionage, Porsche AG is blocking its employees from having access to Facebook and Xing.

Dirk Erat, a Porsche spokesman, said today that the company is concerned that foreign intelligence services may be spying on workers posting “confidential” information on Facebook and other social-networking services.

“These services imply a certain threat potential,” Erat said. Barring access at workstations to sites including EBay Inc. reflects “principal company policy,” Erat said.

Which Fiat 500 badge do you want in the U.S.?

Fiat USA is really excited for the arrival of the Fiat 500 to the United States, and wants to get your opinion on what logo you prefer for the hatchback on the stateside.

The Fiat 500 will be available in North America with a 1.4L Multiair engine in the fourth quarter of 2010. It will be built in Mexico starting December 2010. Also promised for the North American market is a pure electric version of the Fiat 500 in 2012.
