Based on the 2012 Dodge Charger R/T, beginning with Stage I, the kit includes exterior visual upgrades such as a more aggerssive full-width Mopar chin spoiler made of carbon fiber, a special Redline Tri-coat paint finish, a unique two-piece grille, 20-inch Mopar Black Envy alloys and much more. The insides get some aesthetic tweaks as well such as a Mopar aluminum shift and instrument panel bezel and stainless steel Mopar pedals.

Stage II is where some performance upgrades are included. To help the 5.7L HEMI V8 breathe better, Mopar’s cat-back performance exhaust system is fitted, allowing for a boost in horsepower and a more menacing exhaust note (who doesn’t like that for a V8). A front strut tower cross-brace is added under the hood to help increase torsional rigidity for when the Charger carves corners (and yes it can). And co complete Stage II, the brakes are also upgraded with Mopar’s own to compensate for the little boost in power that the exhaust system offers.

And last but not least, Stage III includes everything from Stage I and II. But from the factory, Mopar removes the usual 5.7L HEMI and replaces it with their own 7.0L 426 HEMI V8 all-aluminum crate engine that was specified for racing and off-road use only. So basically, Stage III renders your Charger useless on public roads…though I doubt many would be able to tell that you’re engine was not specified for public roads should you opt for the 590-hp Stage III.

Full details on pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but the packages will be available for the 2012 Charger model year, with pricing most likely available through dealers.

The Stage One package will boast a carbon fiber splitter up front, carbon fiber door scoops and carbon fiber rear decklid spoiler. This kit will also include a Mopar aluminum shift knob and bespoke instruments. Stage Two is good for a cat-back exhaust, Mopar brake linings, front strut tower brace and brace caps.

Stage Three seems to be for ripping people’s faces off: a race-only spec Gen-III 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 putting out 590 bhp, a 220 bhp upgrade from the Charger R/T. The three kits will come out later this year as will their respective prices.

The very first 1969 Dodge Charger from The Dukes of Hazzard will be going under the hammer next month at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.

With no reserve price on the car, the 1969 Charger is expected to bring in a nice chunk of change from The Dukes of Hazzard fans.

Known as the Lee 1 during the 1978 production, this specific Charger was featured in a wrecked condition in a subsequent episode and the left in a Georgia to rot in a junkyard until 2001. The model was eventually pickup up by Travis Bell and went through a set of buyers before brought by Marvin Murphy. Murphy and Bell then decided to restore the car. Since its restoration, the car has been owned by Murphy.

We’re not sure how much the car will bring but a replica of the car owned by John Schneider was auctioned off for $450,000 in 2008.

The 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee is available in a Stinger Yellow or Pitch Black exterior with special Super Bee logos on the outside and inside. Like the Challenger SRT8 392 Yellow Jacket, the Charger SRT8 Super Bee also gets 20 x 9-inch, 5-spoke cast-aluminum wheels with black painted pockets.

Power also comes from the  392-cubic inch 6.4 liter HEMI V8 making 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

Dodge says that a limited number of units will be made with the first units arriving at dealerships in the first quarter of 2012.

Seeing is believing and really no more than that: the SuperBee is an aesthetic upgrade, up front is the same not-so-miserable 6.2 liter V8 putting out 470 bhp and 470 ft-lbs along with the standard SRT8’s suspension and brakes. All of this is good for a sub-5 second trip to 60, sub 13-second quarter, 175 mph and a 60-0 distance of 120 ft. For reference, the ‘71 SuperBee did 60 in 5.7 seconds and a 13.7 seconds.

“The 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee is a salute to the fun-loving past of Dodge muscle cars powered by the legendary 392 HEMI® V-8 in a back-to-basics performance machine,” Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT and Motorsports said.

The car will be a limited edition, but Chrysler has not said how limited yet: there were 1000 2007 SuperBees, but only 425 model year 2009 copies made.

Setting the SuperBee apart will be copious SuperBee badges, the yellow paint of course and bespoke black painted aluminum wheels. For those crazy enough to drive the car in the snow, it comes standard with a heated steering wheel and all-season tires. Paddle shifting is new this year as well.

To enhance Dodge Charger Pursuit’s world-class levels of technology, safety, handling and efficient power, Mopar teamed up with industry-equipment leader Crown North America to develop six police packages that are designed to provide law-enforcement officers with the best combination of tactical equipment and performance. The base police prep package for the 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit includes the following:

Emergency Equipment Electrical System Wire Harness: Capable of providing the appropriate power, ground, and fusing for a variety LED, lighting, siren, computer, modem, radar or camera systems. The wire harness integrates with both the Vehicle Systems Interference Module (VSIM) 24-way connector and the 12-pin connector that Chrysler Group provides at the console.

Power Distribution Center (PDC): Contains the fusing and relays for circuits contained in the wire harness. The PDC is supplied from the battery with two 100-amp main fuses. These fuses are separated in order to accommodate departments that wish to control some circuits with a timing device. For installers who want to use timer systems in order to prevent power drains on the battery, the PDC will accept the device’s output and channel it to the usual elements controlled by timers, including camera, computer, modem and printer systems.

Slide-out Trunk Tray: Provides a stable, easily accessible platform from which the installer can position and install electrical equipment. The trunk tray provides a 37.5-inch by 19-inch mounting surface for electrical and communications gear. Locking slides provide the movement, allowing a technician easier access to equipment mounted to the tray. An industry-first integral ground buss bar helps eliminate poor grounding, the most common equipment issue. The tray is adjustable and allows for a variety of equipment heights and needs.

Trunk Air-circulation Fan: Stabilizes trunk temperature in a relatively short period of time, helping all trunk-mounted electronic equipment to function properly by circulating heated or cooled air from the driver’s compartment into the trunk area.

Siren Speaker: Provides a 100-watt siren driver that is certified to meet SAE Class A and California Title XIII requirements when matched with an appropriate siren amplifier. Given that the system is mounted behind the grille, the look of the vehicle remains clean, while the siren location does not impact engine cooling.

The 2012 Dodge Charger Pursuit’s available police-equipment packages include six quick-order package options:

I’ve always wondered why some Chrysler vehicles were stuck in the past with 5-gear transmissions – well, today Chrysler Group LLC announced that it will be introducing a new 8-speed automatic transmission that will be introduced and licensed through ZF.

The transmission, which is usually found on high-end luxury cars including Audi, Bentley, BMW, Range Rover and Rolls-Royce, will now be available on select models of the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger for the 2012 model year.

Chrysler says that the new 8-speed transmission will help both model achieve an EPA-rated 31 mpg on the highway – an increase of 4 mpg. Initially, the 8-speed transmission will be mated exclusively to the 3.6 liter V6 Pentastar engine that was introduced last year. Chrysler may offer it on V8 models in the future.

Chrysler will start off buying the 8-speed automatic from ZF until it kicks off production at its Kokomo transmission facility under license by the German-based company.

Chrysler Group announced today that its newly formed Street and Racing Technology (SRT) Brand will be hitting the road with its first-ever, “SRT High Performance Tour,” featuring four drivers, four vehicles and a visit to more than 40 clubs and event over the next for months.

The vehicles the SRT brand will be traveling with include the the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8, Dodge Challenger SRT8, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and the Chrysler 300 SRT8.

The tour will kick off in Auburn Hills, Mich., at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum on Friday, Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. Ralph Gilles, President and CEO – SRT Brand, Chrysler Group LLC, and Joe Grace, Vehicle Line Executive A/B Segment & SRT, Chrysler Group LLC., will be on hand.

For the seventh consecutive year, Porsche is the highest-ranking nameplate in the 2011 APEAL Study by J.D. Power and Associates. Hyundai also improved from 2010 more than any other nameplate this year, while Jeep and Chrysler also improved considerably.

BMW and Dodge each had three models each that received the segment-level awards. BMW models receiving awards incldued the new X3, Z4 Roadster and the 5 Series. Dodge received awards for the Challenger, Charger and Durango.

Ford and Honda also received two model-level awards, with Ford receiving awards for the all-new Fiesta and F-150 LD and Honda receiving awards for the Ridgeline and redesigned Odyssey.

“The auto industry has taken a battering during the past few years,” said David Sargent, vice president of global vehicle research at J.D. Power and Associates. “However, it is clear that throughout this period, automakers have never lost sight of the fact that survival—and ultimately success—only comes from winning over customers in the showroom. Offering highly appealing vehicles is one of the primary means to succeed.”

In recent years, muscle car fans are having the time of their lives while they kick back and watch the Big 3 go at an outstanding horsepower war. Of course Dodge, unlike Ford and Chevrolet, has refrained from offering anything north of 550-hp… until now.

Sources inside Dodge say that the newly-formed SRT brand is working on a factory option supercharger for the new Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger that will boost output from the 6.4 liter HEMI V8 to as high as 570-hp.

Prices for the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 will start at $46,660 including $825 in shipping fees.

Stopping power from 60 to 0 mph comes in 120 feet comes through 14.2 inch (front) and 13.8 inch (rear) vented/slotted rotors with four-piston Brembo calipers painted red. The Charger SRT8 also gets a two-mode adaptive damping suspension, which allows for selectable suspension tuning and also automatically adapts to road and driver inputs for optimal vehicle control.

A test of eight Chrysler Group LLC vehicles by Consumer Reports has revealed that the company’s cars are getting better – however the level of improvement varies from car to car.

Consumer Reports said that the Dodge Durango and the Dodge Charger have improved the most.

“Both the V6 and V8 tested versions of the Durango SUV received ‘Very Good’ road test scores which now makes them comparable with the redesigned 2011 Ford Explorer,” the publication said. “However, they score well below rivals like the Toyota Highlander and the Chevrolet Traverse. The Charger Rallye also received a “Very Good” road test score and now ranks close to the Ford Taurus and Buick LaCrosse.”

The Chrysler Town & Country, which is virtually the twin of the Dodge Grand Caravan, earned a score of “Very Good.”

“It’s clear that Chrysler is on the right path, but they still have a long way to go,” said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports’ Auto Test Center in East Haddam, CT. “We see major improvements for models that have had a significant redesign. When Chrysler invests the time and money in a true redesign, the result has been a much more competitive model.”

Consumer Reports also tested the new Chrysler 200, Dodge Avenger, Jeep Compass, Dodge Journey, and Jeep Patriot but was unimpressed by the vehicles. Those vehicles scored at or near the bottom of their respective categories.

Consumer Reports will also be testing the updated Chrysler 300C, Dodge Challenger, and the new Fiat 500. Those vehicles weren’t available in time for testing.

If you haven’t been inside a Chrysler recently, we recommend you go to your local dealer and check out the huge improvement in interior quality the automaker has worked so hard to get right. Previously known for their “cheap plastic interior,” Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles now feature interiors with soft touch and solid materials.

Ralph Gilles, senior vice president of product design for Chrysler Group admitted that the company had previously put an emphasis on ergonomics above design, materials and fit.

“It was a festival of polypropylene,” Gilles said. “You can make plastic look good, but we made plastic look even harder than plastic.”

Now, with the help of Fiat SpA, Chrysler is not only focusing on redesigning vehicles and increasing sales, it is also taking interiors of its vehicles to a new level. The company has already received much applause for the interiors of the Dodge Charger Rallye Plus and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit.

While some of the improvement comes from an increased emphasis on materials Gilles said that Chrysler’s team is now packed with designers and engineers who are dedicated to interiors, not just reassigned exterior stylists. He said that the quality of interiors will continue to be part of the company’s rebirth.

Chrysler announced its first profit in the car-making business since emerging from bankruptcy in 2009, and the first profit of any kind since 2006.  In keeping with the upswing created by its performance – Chrysler has also made public some of the details of the changes it is making to its portfolio of vehicles.

Among those changes, Marchionne said that the Super Bee badge will be revived for a variant of the Dodge Charger, and that the Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited will finally shed their 3.8-liter V6 engines, in favor of more efficient, Pentastar V6s.

The Pentastar V6 will make the Wrangler lineup 10% more efficient, when combined with a new 5-speed automatic transmission.  Chrysler is also supposed to announce a new dual-clutch, automated manual transmission that was originally slated for the 200.  Chrysler had been involved in a similar project  pre-bankruptcy, but that plan was scrapped right before the ‘old’ Chrysler went bust.

In the coming weeks, Fiat will be increasing its stake in Chrylser to 46%, as part of a deal that will restructure the company’s government bailout loans.  Fiat controlling the rest of Chrysler hinges upon the company’s ability to build a vehicle that gets 40 mpg, and Fiat has made it known that it wishes to obtain a controlling stake in Chrysler.

Also, The Fiat 500 Gucci Edition will be coming to the stateside as well.

If you’re going to be heading to the theaters next week to watch Fast Five, you’re going to see a lot of the new 2011 Dodge Charger. Yes, you’ll probably see ‘souped-up’ versions of the Charger looking something like the new Mopar 2011 Dodge Charger.

The Mopar 2011 Dodge Charger comes specially equipped with the ‘Super Trac Pac’ option that pushes the capabilities of the Mopar Charger in acceleration, handling and braking. Other performance upgrades including a larger front 30mm solid stabilizer bar and rear 20mm solid stabilizer bar, cross-car braces located at both the front and rear shock towers and much more.

Production of the Mopar 2011 Dodge Charger will be limited to just 1,000 units - 900 for U.S., 100 for Canada.
