Citroen’s product head Vincent Besson has confirmed to AutoCar that the company will be putting its GTbyCitroen into limited production with the final production version to make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Besson said that only six-units will be made with a price-tag estimated to be around £1.1 million pounds ($1.8 million USD). Sources say that most of the GTbyCitroen concept’s feature will make into the final production version including the carbon fiber construction and most of the insane interior details such as the copper trim.

Besson previously admitted that the production model will carry a Ford or GM V8 making at least 500-hp mated to paddle-shift manual gearbox.

Last month, the GTbyCitroen concept took the streets of London to recreate part of the ’street circuit’ featured in Gran Turismo video game. Of course it’s no surprise that the city of London was brought to a standstill when the GTbyCitroen decided to make a live appearance.

What’s that a sound of? While the concept GTbyCitroen Concept is said to powered by a 782-hp, high-tech fuel-cell engine, the rumored production model is expected to carry a GM or Ford V8. So take your guesses wisely.

We have yet to see the GTbyCitroen (or with spaces GT by Citroen) Concept out of pictures and away from auto show settings – until now. The concept took the streets of London yesterday to recreate part of the ’street circuit’ featured in Gran Turismo video game.

Citroen has yet to confirm anything about the production of the GTbyCitroen; although it has been recently speculated that the concept is headed into a limited production of just 20 units.

The GTbyCitroen (or Citroen GT, GT by Citroen or whatever you want to call it) made its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show last year without any engine under the hood since Citroen never planned on a road-going version of the car. The supercar, which was a joint project between Citroen and the makers of the Gran Turismo video game, was said to be powered by 782-hp, high-tech fuel-cell engine in its virtual reality world.

Nonetheless, in March 2009, Citroen confirmed that the car will be going into production with power coming from GM or Ford V8 engine.

Citroen announced today that its GTbyCitroen will now make rounds at major events in the coming months. Its first stop will be the 24-Hours Nurburgring race where the car will take a lap of the legendary German track. One June 12, the GTbyCitroen will join a host of supercars from all over the world at in the  ”Grande Parade des Pilotes” at the Le Mans 24 Hours. Last but not least, it will stop over at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK on July 3.

Citroen says that the GT will see a limited production run of just 20 units. Expect each unit to cost an arm and a leg.

At the end of last year, it was reported that they GT by Citroen could be headed for a limited production of 20 units. According to AutoCar, Citroen product head Vincent Besson, the Citroen GT super concept has now been confirmed for production.

The concept was original designed to be in the Gran Turismo 5 video game but according to Besson, the concept has received huge positive feedback. “We are now thinking of a limited run, possibly as many as 20 units,” Besson told the publication.

Besson did not confirm any specs for the Citroen GT but confirmed that power is likely to come from a GM or Ford V8.

Remember the GT by Citroen that made its debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show? Yes, the insane looking joint project created by the French automaker for Gran Turismo. At that time we said “Don’t expect to see the roads anytime soon (or ever)” – well, we may have been wrong.

According to PSA’s chief designer Jean-Pierre Ploué, the GT by Citroen could be headed for a limited production run of only 20 units.

No official specifications of a production version of the GT have been released but according to the virtual reality version in Gran Turismo, the car produces a total of 782-hp from its high-tech fuel-cell powertrain and weighs 3,000 pounds.

After countless teasers, Citroen has finally taken the covers off its new GT at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The GT by Citroen is a joint project between the French automaker and the creators of Gran Turismo, whose fans seem like will have to wait forever until its 5th installment.

Measuring 5-meters long, the GT by Citroen is powered by an electric drivetrain which is fueled by fuel cells. The GT is packaged in an overly exaggerated sporty body frame with 21-inch aluminum wheels, gullwing doors, an over-sized rear-end with a mobile spoiler and huge intakes.

Don’t expect to see the roads anytime soon (or ever), but check it out in virtual reality in Gran Turismo 5.

The amazing GT by CITROËN is the first ever car to be specifically designed to bring the virtual and real worlds together. The car makes its global premiere at the Paris Motor Show where visitors can actually drive the car in a true to life simulator on the Citroën stand.

GT by CITROËN, a joint venture between Citroën and the makers of Gran Turismo, was created for the eagerly anticipated 5th game in the multi-million selling Playstation series.

At almost five metres long, GT by CITROËN packs the latest hi-tech racing equipment into an exaggerated sporty frame. Planted on 21-inch, diamond-effect, aluminium wheels, the car’s gullwing doors, over-sized rear end with mobile spoiler, gaping air intakes and flat underside exude the qualities of an accomplished racer.

With chrome chevrons on the smooth, aerodynamic, front end asserting the car’s Citroën identity, the GT by CITROËN is bursting with styling cues typical of the Company’s creative flair. The sharp lines and sculpted body are emphasised by the white-to-grey flared paint work which gives the car a forceful look and an impression of speed – even when it’s standing still.

The sleekly muscled racer sports a large wraparound windscreen adding to the impact of the car’s size and dynamic appearance. Penetrating blue LED headlamps and slim-line carbon fibre rear view mirrors – which appear to be suspended in mid-air – add to GT by CITROËN’s futuristic racing style.

Premium materials used throughout GT by CITROËN’s hi-tech interior reflect the car’s distinguished and refined personality. In contrast to its light body work, the cabin features a darker, more brooding colour scheme with two padded racing seats finished in black leather and fitted with four point harnesses. The dark leather, along with copper and steel touches inside the cabin and a low-slung driving position, create an opulent and powerful racing environment. Important on-board data is displayed via a red LED head-up display, allowing drivers to maintain focus on the track.

In the game, the GT by CITROËN showcases Citroën’s dedication to the environment with an electric drive train powered by a fuel cell, totally eliminating pollutant emissions.

Wow - Citroen, Lamborghini and Ford really need to stop. Citroen today released the fourth teaser image of its upcoming GT Concept due out at the 2008 Paris Motor Show next week.

While there is no word on the technical specs or whether this concept will ever make it into production, we have a feeling we’re going to love the look of this baby once Citroen takes the silhouette all the way off.

But, for that we’ll have to wait until Oct.2

Citroen GT Concept:

Citroen, a French automaker, will be showing its new GT concept at the 2008 Paris Motor Show next month. Citroen has not released any details besides three teaser images giving us a feel of the profile of its new GT model.

No word on whether the concept will be put into production but you can get a feel of it in virtual reality when it hits Gran Turismo Prologue on PlayStation 3 next month.

Our take? It’s got a very Pininfarina feel to it.
