Transformers 3 filming in Chicago

Transformers 3 is scheduled to be released on July 1, 2011 and yes it will be available in Real D 3D And IMAX 3D. We’re really crossing our fingers for the third installment of the series to be better than the sequel, which had a great amount of action but a horrible plot.

The good news already for part 3? Megan Fox will not be a part of it. Fox’s character Mikaela has been dropped and Sam is now given new love interest, who will be played by English model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

But what about the cars? Well, Michael Bay and his crew were recently invaded the city of Chicago and fans happened to film some interesting scenes. In these numerous clips (posted after the jump), you’ll see the Corvette Stingray Convertible Concept, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Ferrari 458 Italia, some NASCARs and a new upgraded Bumblebee Camaro.

Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept

General Motors CEO and Chairman has officially confirmed that a new Chevrolet Corvette is in the works. Whitacre said that the new Corvette “looks quite different. It’s totally redesigned inside and out.”

In a separate report, sources have confirmed that the next-generation ‘Vette will be mid-engined. Saab sources said that its engineers have developed a double-clutch transmission for a “mid-engined version of the Corvette.” The insiders also said that the wet-clutch transmission was designed to cope with up to 590 lb-ft of torque.

It was originally said that the mid-engined Corvette concept was dropped due to the credit crunch of 2008. It seems like that the layout is now back on the agenda for the ‘Vette and should appear in 5-years time.

It is also reported that executives are considering downsizing to a V6 engine with turbochargers. Stay tuned for more details.

Joining the upgraded Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee in Transformers 3 will be a topless Corvette Stingray Concept seen here hanging out in Beverly Hills.

As for this looking like anything close to the C7 Corvette Convertible – you can expect this design to be toned down significantly. GM has previously said that the “Corvette Stingray Concept represents both the iconic legacy and an exciting future for Corvette. The Corvette Stingray Concept was developed as an internal design challenge to combine classic Corvette cues with surprisingly high-tech features, modern materials, and a striking new appearance.”

Either way, we’re looking forward to seeing the convertible Corvette Stingray Concept on the big screen on July 1, 2011.

General Motors today released new images of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept giving it the official name of “50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept.”

In a short press release, GM said that the “Corvette Stingray Concept represents both the iconic legacy and an exciting future for Corvette.”

“The Corvette Stingray Concept was developed as an internal design challenge to combine classic Corvette cues with surprisingly high-tech features, modern materials, and a striking new appearance. The car is well-appointed with a clamshell hood, scissor-style doors, ergonomic seats, rear-view camera with night vision enhancement, and a high performance hybrid drive. Interactive touch controls allow the driver to customize the power and efficiency of his or her ride and share it with friends via the in-car camera system and advanced telemetrics.”

Earlier this year, Tom Stephen, GM”s vice chairman of global product development, said that GM may consider offering a hybrid powertrain for the Corvette. To boost fuel-economy GM plans to reduce the weight of the Corvette, offer low resistance tires and an engine with direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation.

Ray Wert drives the multi-million dollar Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept: Yes, we envy Wert and his perks right now. So will this be the next 2013 Chevrolet Corvette scheduled to go into production in 2012? According to Tom Peters, designer of the Stingray concept and the new Chevrolet Camaro, the Stingray concept is “not the C7.” However, he told Wert “that’s not to say there aren’t elements here that can translate into what the C7′s about.” – Jalopnik

Yesterday, General Motors Company announced a number of new products in the pipeline. We heard about two new Cadillac sedans, a new Buick sedan and crossover, the Chevrolet Orlando, Camaro Convertible and the next-generation Malibu.

However, there was one popular GM model left out of the mix – the Chevrolet Corvette. According to the folks over at Automotive News, production of the next-generation Corvette, known as the C7, is expected to start in April 2012 for the 2013 model year.

Sources say that the front-engine layout will be maintained. Anyone looking to see the 2009 Chevrolet Stingray with a 638-hp 6.2L V8 from the ZR-1? Yes, we are already excited.

The Chevrolet Stingray Concept made its world debut at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show last week. We now have a video of Ed Welburn, Vice President of GM Global Design, taking us around the Stingray and describing the design of the new concept in more detail.

We highly doubt the Stingray Concept will enter production anytime soon and GM has made no attempt on hinting the possibility of that happening. They’ve basically said that the car was designed for the Transformers sequel, in which the Stingray Concept will play Sideswipe.

Earlier this morning we showed you images of the Bumblebee Camaro in robot form being put together on the eve of the 2009 Chicago Auto Show press days. Well, the show is now underway and General Motors has just unveiled the new additions to the Autobot team that will make their onscreen debut in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen this June.

The new additions include: Sideswipe who is based on the new Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Concept aka Stingray Concept; Skids and Mudflap who are based on the Chevrolet Beat (now known as the Chevy Spark) and Trax Concept; and the Jolt a fuel-efficient Autobot based on the 2011 Chevrolet Volt.

Of course, the Autobots aren’t complete without Bumblebee. The new and upgraded Bumblebee is based on the new production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS model with a couple of visual modifications.

Five Chevrolet-based characters ““ including four all-new characters ““ are featured in the new film set to open in the United States on June 26. All of them are at the Chevrolet display. The four new movie characters include:

BUMBLEBEE™, the heroic AUTOBOT based on Chevrolet”s Camaro concept from the first “Transformers” movie, returns with a high-performance attitude. Joining the vehicles on stage will be BUMBLEBEE in his AUTOBOT form, standing almost 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and 13 feet (4 meters) wide.

The design is influenced by the original Stingray race car, introduced in 1959, but also draws on Corvette heritage cues from other generations. It brings them together in a futuristic shape that seems to be equal parts racecar and space ship.

“SIDESWIPE represents an exercise in exploration for the Corvette,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design. “By giving my creative team the freedom to design no-holds-barred vision concepts, it helps them push boundaries and look at projects from different perspectives.”

The Beat and Trax-based characters, SKIDS and MUDFLAP, remain faithful to their concept designs introduced at the 2007 New York Auto Show ““ although each wears new paint and other exterior accessories. And while they may be small cars, when they turn into fighting AUTOBOTS®, they pack a big punch.

The other new AUTOBOT, JOLT, appears in the production form of Chevy”s 2011 Volt extended-range electric vehicle. With the capability of up to 40 miles (64 km) of pure electric propulsion, plus hundreds of more miles with the assistance from its Voltec powertrain system, the real-life Volt will change driving in America.

Of course, the AUTOBOT team isn”t complete without BUMBLEBEE, the yellow Camaro based on the new, 2010 production model.
