Eli Manning is on top of the world. After proving that he is not only in the league of top tier quarterbacks like Tom Brady, Manning proved that he can take down top tier quarterbacks and lead his team to a Super Bowl victory.

Besides celebrating the win, Eli received a brand new 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible Centennial Edition in recognition of his tremendous effort on the field in the Giants’ 21-17 win over the New England Patriots.

The car was presented to Eli by Chevrolet, the official sponsor of the Super Bowl XLVI MVP Award, during the post game show.

The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Convertible comes with a 6.2 liter V8 making 436-hp and 424 lb-ft of torque. That allows it run from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds. The black-on-black model that Eli received was a Chevrolet Centennial edition that commemorates 100 years of the brand’s history.

The first very (chassis #001) 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – the fastest convertible in Corvette’s history – was auctioned off for $600,000 in the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction this past weekend.

Who paid all that? We’re not sure, but Chevy, NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon and team owner Rick Hendrick, raised a total of $700,000 for the AARP’s Drive to End Hunger food relief program.

Refresher: Power for the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition comes from a 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06 – making 505 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. It is only available with a 6-speed manual.

This may be, but the point is that there is now a ‘vette ‘vert packing the same 505-bhp LS7 V8 found in the C6 Z06 Corvette. GM say that the car is a combination of the Z06 and the ZR1: the fact is that we are looking at the closest we will ever come to a Z06 convertible. Outside, you will find the Z06’s carbon fiber fenders and front splitter, the carbon fiber hood from the Z06 Carbon Edition and the Micheline PS2 tires found on the ZR1.

On paper, it’s the fastest convertible Corvette ever made, and it doesn’t stop there: the Porsche 911 Turbo Cab, Audi R8 convertible, Aston DBS and Ferrari California Convertible all have poorer power to weight ratios. 60 mph comes in 3.8 seconds, an 11.8 quarter mile, 190 mph+ top speed and 1.04 g of lateral grip.

If we take a banal perspective, this is merely a mixture of parts that made other Corvettes special, but to every owner, it’s a fast, loud and glorious way to recount the past 60 years of Corvette. The first 427 collector’s edition will be auctioned off at the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale Arizona on January 21. The proceeds will benefit the Drive to End Hunger program.

The 427 Convertible also features several carbon-fiber components that help reduce weight, including:

• Carbon fiber raised hood (introduced on the 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition)
• Carbon fiber Z06-style fenders
• Carbon fiber floor panels
• The “CFZ” carbon fiber front splitter and rocker panels are optional on the 427 Convertible, and included with the 60th Anniversary package.

This may not be the fastest Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 in the world but it can sure run a quarter mile fast as hell.

Built by Late Model Racecraft, this Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 recently ran the quarter mile at 9.68 seconds at 147 mph. At the end the Corvette ZR1 was heard saying ‘just bring it.’

Four teams will be running the Daytona Prototype next year: No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing; No. 10 SunTrust Racing; No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, and the Nos. 5 and 9 Action Express Racing teams.

The car is a collaboration of the following: Chevrolet, Corvette Designers, Pratt & Miller and GRAND-AM.

Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows ‘Hall of Fame’ Tribute

Ron Fellows has a long, distinguished racing career, including driving on the championship Corvette Racing C5.R and C6.R teams. That resume helped earn him an induction to the National Corvette Museum’s Hall of Fame in 2011. Not all producers appreciate their actors. But as Johnny Depp recently finished The Rum Diaries, producer Graham King handed Depp the keys to the red ‘59 Corvette used in the film. This isn’t a form of payment, but rather a token of appreciation given to someone who certainly could afford to purchase several ‘59 Corvettes. King said that Depp was “pretty blown away by it.”

Depp plays a journalist who has escaped New York City for Puerto Rico, attempting journalism in a different climate. Depp can be seen driving the car in the film with actress Amber Heard riding shotgun, as depicted in the film’s trailer.

The Rum Diary opens in theatres October 28 of this year.

Our friend Matt Farah at The Smoking Tire recently had the chance to live out every little boy’s dream by getting behind the wheel of the one-off Art Morrison 3G 1960 Corvette.

Matt headed to Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch to test the Gran Turismo Award-Winning SEMA car, which cost Morrison $400,000 to build.

Is this just any 1960 ‘Vette? Not at all, Morrison has added his own chassis with an aluminum 538-hp V8 and a Viper transmission.

Taking what’s considered a standard set of 1,350hp V8 turbo engines for power, its the rest of the boat that is not so standard. $1.78 million later, a 2012 ZR48 MTI was produced, complete with a full Chevrolet Corvette interior.

The speedboat also includes a custom trailer and a seating for six, something the Corvette certainly doesn’t include.

GM may have failed to meet a federal safety standard for rear hinges on the new Chevrolet Corvette Coupes, and is recalling 6,006 units.

Both 2011 and 2012 models are included in the recall for a problem, found in September, with rear hatches that may not hold up if the vehicle is involved in a collision. Dealers have been alerted, and Milan Metal Systems LLC of Milan will be replacing the hatches.

It is rumored that the 2014 C7 Chevy Corvette will be released with a seven-speed manaul transmission.

Additionally, the engine remains a pushrod, but a technologically advanced direct-injection V8 with variable lift.

There is still some debate over whether the 7-speed manual will use a 7 gear and tighten the ratios of the inital 6, or add an overdrive gear.

General Motors has invested $131 million in its Bowling Green Assembly plant to support production of the next generation Chevrolet Corvette, which will come out in 2013.

How about giving us some dual-clutch love like the Porsche PDK?

Supercars and sports coupes are my favorite segment of any segment out there. So you can images the excitement I had when I heard that CARandDRIVER was lining up 11 of the world’s most desirable supercars for a side-by-side drag race.

The list includes some of the most exciting cars out there including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Audi R8 GT, Ferrari 458 Italia, Lotus Evora S, Nissan GT-R, Lexus LFA, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and even the BMW 1-Series M Coupe. Including many others, that a combined 82 cylinders and nearly 5,000 horsepower – wrapped in $1.5 million of beautifully sculpted aluminum, fiberglass and carbon fiber skins

So who won the drag race and came out on top? The $89,950 Nissan GT-R. That’s right the Nissan GT-R was showing its rear-end to the $225,325 Ferrari 458 Italia, the $198,000 Audi R8 GT and the $200,00 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

Even though the Nissan GT-R won the race, the Ferrari 458 Italia won Motor Trend’s 2011 Best Driver’s Car.

The only car we feel that is missing from this gang that deserves a spot in this battle is the Cadillac CTS-V Coupe.

At 68, our Vice President, Joe Biden, doesn’t seem like someone that would be a true car enthusiast – however, in an interview with CARandDRIVER Joe points out that he still loves the occasional smoky burnout and being the son of a car salesman, we wouldn’t expect anything less of Biden.

When asked by C&D if any car really stands out for him he pointed out the Cadillac CTS-V.

“My brother has one of those 556-hp [CTS-V] Cadillacs with a manual,” Biden said. “He brought it down for me to eat my heart out. So I got in. I have a driveway that’s about 1700 feet long. I knew the Secret Service wouldn’t let me drive it outside. So I jumped on that sucker and laid rubber.  A great feeling. That thing could probably beat my Corvette.”

By the way, he’s talking about a Goodwood-green 1967 Corvette.

Earlier this month, the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 hit up the Nurburgring Nordschleife and returned an impressive lap time of 7:19.63. That put the 2012 Corvette ZR1 ahead of the 2012 Nissan GT-R and right below the Porsche 911 GT2 RS on the board.

With things already hot at the Nurburgring for Corvette engineers, they recently hit up the Nordschleife with the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, outfitted with the Z07 chassis package.

Behind the steering was Corvette engineer Jim Mero who ended up posting an impressive lap of 7:22.68, beating the previous Z06 record at the Nurburgring by 20 seconds. That lap time is still better than the Nissan GT-R.

General Motors has given dealers pricing information for the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette and it seems like the cost of owning a ‘Vette is going up. According to documents given to dealers, the sticker price for the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette is going up between $480 and $1,150, depending on which model you choose.

The only exception in the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette lineup is the ZR1, which is getting a price drop of $75 to $112,500, including the $975 shipping charge.

Prices for Chevrolet Corvette options are also going up. The 2LT Corvette group regular and Grand Sport coupes will go from $1,195 in 2011 to $2,095 for the 2012. The 3LT will go up from $4,205 to $5,995, while the 4LT package will go up from $7,705 to $9,495.

The Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Special Edition will cost you an additional $4,950 and can be had on any Corvette model.
