It’s been recently confirmed/reported that the Bugatti Galibier 16 Concept will go into production as the brand’s new high-performance supersedan. However, there have been many times where we’ve heard that the executives at Bugatti were still contemplating design changes for the upcoming model.

While we’re pretty sure they have something final now, a designer by the name of Dejan Hristov is taking a shot at what another iteration of the Bugatti sedan could look like.

Of course the design is very extreme and out there like concepts usually are, but Hristov take remains close to the Galibier’s profile.

Bugatti’s work with the Veyron has been slowly coming to an end, leaving off with only rumors as to what the outstanding supercar brand could be coming up with next. But to make things far more interesting, Bugatti released some news stating that they just ordered two more years worth of Dual Clutch Transmissions, the same one specially made for the epic Veyron supercar.

Made and supplied by Ricardo, which is based in Leamington, UK, the news regarding the order of the seven-speed unit could mean that Bugatti is gearing up to release some new cars.

“Ricardo is really pleased to see a further extension of the partnership with Bugatti on the dual clutch transmission of the Veyron, a supercar that represents the ultimate in high quality automotive design, engineering and manufacture,” said Ricardo’s director of high performance transmission products, Mark Barge. “We look forward to two further very successful years in the story of this truly great automobile with its advanced Ricardo transmission.”

Details were sparse as to Bugatti’s reasoning for the order, though they were not specifically described. Considering the bits of rumors and trends floating around, the most likely reason could be that Bugatti is making a final version of the Veyron, which will ultimately signify the end of the car’s production completely

But at the same time, it’s not unruly to think that Bugatti is also finalizing a production version of their Veyron four-door, the Galibier.

Either way, we’re eager to learn what Bugatti’s going to come up with next.

After a bunch of reports telling us that Bugatti has been moving forward with the production of the Galibier sedan, we heard some sad news earlier this month that plans were put on hold. New reports now suggest that Volkswagen Group will be decided by the end of 2011 whether or not to move forward – however, if it does, sources say that design will be significantly changed from the concept we’ve been seeing.

Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer said that the Galibier sedan was now ‘in its second half of the design phase’ and added that he expected to show the production model to V-dub Group board before Christmas.

“I will suggest we continue development, but there will be some remarkable changes from the original concept,” Durheimer said. “The design will be different, especially from the B-pillar back, the ingress and regress to the rear seats will be improved, as will the legroom and ergonomics, the car will be a little longer, and the power of the engine will be at least four figures.”

Click here for more news on the Bugatti Galibier.

Why is Bugatti planning a design change? Apparently customer clinic reaction weren’t that exciting. “Half of Veyron owners have been in the car already,” Durheimer said. “You will still recognize the design from the concept, but now this is a design I can be 100% behind.”

All of the reports you’ve been reading recently about the Bugatti Galibier (which could be known as the Royale when/if it enters production) – you can now throw them out of your head. A new report suggests that Bugatti’s new CEO Wolfgang Durheimer has put plans for a four-door supercar on hold since it isn’t an ‘argument stopper,’… yet.

Sources say that a decision will be made at the end of this year on the future of the Galibier. Durheimer has asked Bugatti’s engineering team some tricky questions about the Galibier’s comfort, utility and performance.

“In his opinion,” a source said, “there should not even be a question about the best car in the world when you sit down to discuss it with your billionaire buddies. “He doesn’t want to build it until it’s the car that finishes the argument, not the car that starts it.”

Durheimer, if you’re listening, we’re not sure those spending that much on a supercar are worried about utility.

Bugatti is hard at work to make sure that their Veyron successor, the four-door Galibier, will be just as extraordinary as the Veyron it succeeds. In fact, the Volkswagen-group is putting so much effort into the new model, the Galibier could end up being a bit more expensive than the Veyron’s already commanding $1 million+ price tag.

“I am in discussions with the board,” said CEO Wulfgang Durheimer. “This will be the fastest limousine in the world, and have the biggest production engine with 16 cylinders.”

To make sure that Bugatti in general withholds the reputation as the manufacturer for the world’s fastest production cars, Durheimer said that they must retain a status.

Click here for more news on the Bugatti Galibier.

“We should be thinking of a minimum of 1,000 horsepower for all Bugattis,” Durheimer added, suggesting that Bugatti will completely overlook any idea of a hybrid or other eco technologies in favor of Butatti’s 16-cylinder engine.

Only 100 Veyrons will be produced from now until it gets the axe so with that said, the Galibier isn’t expected to set sail until the end of 2013 at the earliest.

Refresher: The Bugatti 16 C Galibier was one of the several concepts which the company is considering for a future model. Power comes from a 8.0L 16-cylinder engine that features two-stage supercharging. The engine is flex-fuel compatible, meaning it can run on ethanol. The Bugatti Galibier rides on a four-wheel-drive system and features ceramic brakes and a new suspension design that enables “agile, always-sure handling of a saloon of this size.”

Not too long ago, we provided some insight to a new Bugatti model that could be taking shape to follow in the epic Veyron’s footsteps or er…skid marks…or er…tire tracks.

But now, we’ve received some word from Bugatti’s President Wolfgang Dürheimer and he says that the 2013 Galibier super sedan will be launched for sure in late 2012.

Just like the Veyron that the Galibier seeks to replace, the new model will feature a sixteen-cylinder engine that will produce around 789-hp to around 986-hp. Bugatti plans on selling about 1,000 to 1,500 units.

Pricing has yet to be announced but we could guess that the price would hover somewhere around the $1,440,000 mark as hinted by Mr. Dürheimer.

Refresher: The Bugatti 16 C Galibier was one of the several concepts which the company is considering for a future model.
With one of automotive history’s greatest achievements ever on the way out—the Bugatti Veyron—it’s easy for one to wonder what the Volkswagen AG owned brand would do to up the ante and follow up after producing the once world’s fastest production car.

Earlier in the year, Bugatti unveiled its 800hp Galibier 16C sedan concept. Now news has it that the name will be changed to the Royale in light of some Bugatti history. Reminiscing on the original Type-41, which was a 21-foot long three and a half ton, 12.7L straight-eight powered automobile with only six being made, the new Royale seeks to push the limits once again.

Click here for more news on the Bugatti Galibier.

Keeping up with massive engines, the Veyron’s 8.0L W16 engine will be pegged at 800hp for the Royale and it will be mated to a dual-clutch cog swapper. Rumor has it that a plug-in hybrid version may also be available.

Word on the Royale’s production is still unknown but if it ever hits showrooms, it will be produced in very limited numbers and sold to a hand-selected client base.

In a recent interview with CAR Magazine, president and CEO Wolfgang Durheimer shined some light on the upcoming Galibier.

Durheimer confirmed that the production Bugatti Galibier will carry over the Veyron’s heart-pumping engine and transmission and that Bugatti is putting together a hybrid option to make sure tree-huggers aren’t angered by the powerful monster.

Durheimer also said that Bugatti will produce a total of 3,000 Galibier units and that a design freeze is expected to be reached in the later part of 2011.

Durheimer also said that there would be a place for another sports car once production of the Veyron comes to an end.

“We can have one car biased more towards racing, and one for the road,” he told CAR. “We are looking not to the floor but to the ceiling… We want to see how far we can push this brand. The Galibier will fulfil all the demands of Ettore Bugatti: the best car in the world, very luxurious, the best materials, the best surfaces.”

Shortly after the Bugatti 16 C Galibier made its debut in 2009, it as reported that the concept is being considered for production by 2013. According to a report by German magazine Der Spiegel, Bugatti is looking to produce a new luxury sedan for 2014.

The report states that owner Volkswagen Group has decided that Bugatti will kill production of the Veyron and by 2014 will concentrate on a new sedan model based on the Audi A8.

Click here for more news on the Bugatti 16 C Galibier.

Bugatti is not making profit for Volkswagen and will be required to pull its own weight and increase volume sales significantly. Bugatti is the lowest volume brand in the Volkswagen Group.

The sedan will share the platform with the new Audi A8 and will take inspiration from the 16 C Galibier.

As we say goodbye to 2010, we’re looking back at the most important parts of the automotive industry during the year. We’ve already taken a look at the Top 10 Automotive Industry Moments of 2010 and now we’re going to take a look at the Top 10 Concept Cars of 2010.

What allows a concept car to deserve recognition on our Top 10 list? Well, for one they had to be revealed in 2010 – second they have to have major significance to the automaker’s future. Whether or not they’ll be produced is up to the buzz they generate at auto shows or if the automaker can make a viable business case to put them into production.

Of course, the coolness factor of the concept helps a great deal – and no… the Cadillac Urban Luxury Concept did not make our list.

Let’s take a look…

1. Porsche 918 Spyder:

Porsche 918 Spyder

The Porsche 918 Spyder, revealed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, is one of the most important concepts in the automaker’s history. Whether or not it will be built is still up in the air but the rumormill has been speculating of a production model. So far, we hear that Porsche has plans to build a limited-series production of the 918 Spyder with prices starting over $600,000 a piece; not to mention Porsche plans on revealing “something spectacular at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next month. Power for the Porsche 918 Spyder Concept comes from a 3.4L mid-mounted V8 making 500-hp. The engine is mated to two electric-motors sitting on the front and rear axle with an additional output of 218-hp. Power is driven to the wheels by Porsche”s 7-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe PDK transmission, allowing the 918 Spyder Concept to go from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds with a top speed of 198 mph. Drivers are allowed to choose from four different driving modes including E-Drive, Hybrid, Sport Hybrid and Race Hybrid. The E-Drive mode lets the 918 Spyder concept run on pure electricity with a range of 16 miles. Click here for more news on the Porsche 918 Spyder.

2. Lamborghini Sesto Elemento:

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show in October 2010, Lamborghini unveiled the Sesto Elemento Concept. At first the model was believed to be the much-anticipated successor to the Murcielago – however, that was quickly denied by Lamborghini. Instead, Lamborghini says that the Sesto Elemento “shows how the future of the super sports car can look.” President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said that the concept shows the company’s ability “in carbon-fiber technology that have facilitated such a forward-thinking concept.” Weighing in at just 2,202 pounds, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is powered by a V10 engine making 570-hp. That allows it to have a power-to-weight ratio of only 1.75 kilograms per hp and a 0-62 mph time of just 2.5 seconds. It has been rumored recently that Lamborghini will built a limited 10 units for track use only. Click here for more news on the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento.

3. Jaguar C-X75:

Jaguar C-X75

Also unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the Jaguar C-X75 was another important concept unveiled in 2010. The model made its North American debut at the 2010 LA Auto Show. Will Jaguar produce it? Not yet. According to Jaguar, the C-X75 provides a look into the future of Jaguar’s design philosophy and “producing beautiful, fast cars powered by sustainable means.” Power for the Jaguar C-X75 comes from four 195-hp electric motors – one for each wheel – producing a total of 780-hp and a peak torque of 1,180 lb ft. On battery power alone, the C-X75 has a range of 68 miles. After power from the lithium-ion batteries runs out, the C-X75 uses two gas micro-turbines that produce a total of 188-hp and extend the range to 560 miles. Mated to a single-speed transmission, the Jaguar C-X75 goes from 0-62 mph in 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 205 mph. It was recently reported that Jaguar bosses are in favor of producing the C-X75 but are looking for a business case and resources to develop the car. Click here for more news on the Jaguar C-X75.

4. Mazda Shinari:

Mazda Shinari

The Mazda Shinari Concept is a four-door-coupe study that shows the future design direction for the brand. Mazda said that it will use the word ‘Kodo’ (Japanese for soul of motion) to describe the new design language, which was created through a collaboration between Mazda”s styling studios in Germany, the United States and Japan. Will it be produced? No word on that yet, but the next-generation Mazda6 will get heavy Shinari design cues. Click here for more news on the Mazda Shinari.

5. Lotus Elite, Esprit, Elan, Elise, Eterne, City Car:

Lotus Esprit

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Lotus showed up with six concept cars – all which hint at the brand’s new direction to move upmarket and compete with the likes of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini and other supercar brands. Will they all be produced? Apparently. Lotus’ CEO Dany Bahar says that the investment to produce the concept cars and move the company in a new direction has been confirmed. It was later reported that out of the six concept cars, the Lotus Esprit is the only concept that is in development and should arrive on the market in 2013. Check out the following links for more info on each concept. Lotus Esprit, Lotus Elite, Lotus Elise, Lotus Elan, Lotus Eterne, Lotus City Car.

6. Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept:

Bugatti 16C Galibier

Volkswagen Group owned Bugatti currently produces only one model – the Veyron. While we’ve seen many special-edition versions of the Veyron, there is only one model that Bugatti can be proud of and heck, they should be – it’s an orgy of technical innovations and is the fastest car in the world. But what does Bugatti have in store for the future? Apparently, the supercar maker is working on a sedan and the 16C Galibier Concept hints at what that future four-door model could look like. The Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept is inspired by the Type 57, and is known as the “most exclusive, elegant, and powerful four door automobile in the world.” Power comes from an 8.0L 16-cylinder engine that features two-stage supercharging and can pump out more than 800-hp. Reports suggest that the 16C Galibier will go into production in 2013. Click here for more news on the Bugatti 16C Galibier.

The Cadillac XTS kicked off the 2010 year for concept cars at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. At first the model became known as Caddy’s answer to the large luxury sedans such as the BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and the Lexus LS. Is it going into production? Of course it is – however, sources say that General Motors’ CEO Ed Whitacre has authorized the brand to create an even bigger, rear-wheel-drive flagship. Meaning the XTS is not a competitor to the large luxury sedan segment. While the Cadillac XTS will go into production in 2012, the larger, RWD large luxury sedan model will appear sometime in 2014. Power on the Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept comes from a 3.6L V6 direct-injected gasoline engine mated to a plug-in hybrid system. Working together, the system provides a total output of 350-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Click here for more news on the Cadillac XTS.

8. Audi quattro concept:

At the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Audi surprised the automotive world with the Audi quattro concept, a study which celebrates the 30 years of quattro – but is that all? Not really. Recent reports suggest that plans to put the quattro concept into production are fairly advanced, however, we’re not sure when we’ll see it on the roads. The Audi quattro concept is powered by a turbocharged 5-cylinder engine making 408-hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the new quattro concept runs from 0-62 mp in 3.9 seconds. The Audi quattro concept uses the same underpinnings of the Audi RS5 but sits on a wheelbase that measures 5.91 inches shorter. Weight comes in at 2,866.01 lbs, which is roughly 440.92 lbs lighter than the Audi TT RS. Click here for more news on that Audi quattro concept.

The BMW Concept Gran Coupe made its debut at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show and quickly became known as BMW’s answer to the Audi A7 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS. Shortly after its debut, reports came out stating that the Gran Coupe will enter production in 2012 and will be built on the same platform that underpins the 5-Series, 7-Series and the 5-Series Gran Turismo. We would be really surprised if BMW decided not to produce the Gran Coupe so keep your fingers crossed. Click here for more news on the BMW Concept Gran Coupe.

Re-imagine the sedan – that is what Nissan says about its Ellure concept, which made its debut at the 2010 LA Auto Show. Power for the Nissan Ellure Concept comes from a supercharged 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control and a 25W electric-motor mated to a Xtronic CVT transmission. It features front-wheel-drive, regenerative braking, independent suspension, a drive-by-wire electric/hydraulic steering and many more fuel-saving technologies that make it a green sedan with a lot of style. Will it enter production? No word from Nissan yet.

The Bugatti 16C Galibier concept is poised to be given the approval for production by this summer and if all goes well, the four-door Bugatti should go into production around 2013 after production of the Veyron ends in 2012.

Originally, a decision to build the 16C Galibier had been expected this spring, but with Bugatti being the smallest of the Volkswagen Group’s brand it has had to wait its turn for funds.

“It will be made one way or the other,” said one insider. “We”re the smallest VW Group member and there”s a recession on so we”ve not been a priority. But we can expect to announce something by the summer; it looks good, people like it and it wouldn”t be a great financial commitment in the context of the Group.”

There are 300 Galibiers earmarked for production, each carrying a price tag of around $1.4 million.

The Bugatti Galibier rides on a four-wheel-drive system and features ceramic brakes and a new suspension design that enables “agile, always-sure handling of a saloon of this size.”

The four-door Bugatti 16 C Galibier concept design has been patented at the World Intellectual Property Organization, reports AutoCar. Before you get your hopes up, the patent is only for the concept car, showing that Bugatti is merely trying to protect the design of the 16 C Galibier from being copied.

Last we heard anything on the four-door Bugatti concept, it was reported that the car has been given the green light for production with a $1.4 million price tag. However, director Alisdair Stewart says that the decision to put the Galibier into production won’t be taken until next spring after the concept has been through a world tour at auto shows to gauge prospective customers.

He said that if Bugatti decides to put the 16 C Galibier into production, expect to see a limited run of 300 units by 2013.

Power for the concept comes from a 8.0L W16 flex-fuel engine with twin-turbochargers and is estimated to produce around 800-hp. Top speed figures have yet to be confirmed but Bugatti says that the model will be the fastest sedan in the world if produced.

Right before the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show rolled around, Bugatti unveiled a new concept called the Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept. The concept was said to be one of the several concepts that the company is considering for a future model. Well, according to AutoExpress, the 16C Galibier Concept has been given the green light for production with a £900,000 price tag ($1.4 million USD).

The publication reports that the production Bugatti 16C Galibier will carry the same 8.0L 16-cylinder engine as the Veyron and will be far more luxurious than its coupe sibling. However, it will still pack a lot of punch with a rumored output of 800-hp, which will be transferred to the wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Top speed is expected to come in at 220 mph.

So far, a launch date of 2013 is being rumored. Stay tuned.

Refresher: The Bugatti 16 C Galibier is one of the several concepts which the company is considering for a future model.
