BMW has announced that it is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 5-Series, 5-Series Gran Turismo, 7-Series, X5, X6 vehicles with a V8 or 12-cylinder turbocharged engine. Apparently there could be an issue with the circuit board for the electric auxiliary water pump that can overheat.

“This could lead to a smoldering of the pump or an engine compartment or vehicle fire,” the NHTSA said in a statement.

BMW said it will start notifying owners later this month and will replace the auxiliary water pump free of charge. The recall consists of over 32,000 vehicles.

Owners can contact BMW Customer Relations and Services at 1-800-525-7417.

On Jan. 1, 1980, BMW sold its first unit in the United Kingdom – an E12 5 Series Sedan. 31 years later, BMW UK has now surpassed the two millionth car mark. The 2 millionth car sold was a 5-Series Gran Turismo (530d) and it was bought by Ken Haynes, from Wolverhampton.

“I’m delighted to find out I’m the two million man for BMW,” said Haynes. “The BMW 530d Gran Turismo is the perfect car for me as I like the space, versatility and high standard specification. I run an engineering business under my own name and being able to have a luxury car that allows for large items in the boot is the perfect combination.”

BMW has sold 5,839,866 units of the 5-Series since its launch.

Let’s face it, the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo isn’t the best looking vehicle we’ve seen from Bayerische. But will adding an optional M Sport Package make it look any better? Apparently BMW thinks so and they page just released pictures of an M-tricked out 5-Series GT.

I’m currently driving a 5-Series Gran Turismo as a loaner provided by my dealership as my vehicle gets serviced. All I have to say is that as weird and awkward looking the 5-Series Gran Turismo is on the outside, it’s that much better on the inside.

The BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo interior is one that is flawless, quite, comfortable and downright luxurious to the level where you would want to be chauffeured around in.

So back to our main question – will an M Sport Package make the 5-Series Gran Turismo look better? On the inside? Definitely. On the outside? Not at all. Plus, who really out there that buys a 5-Series Gran Turismo thinks “Oh! I must make my 5-Series Gran Turismo look like an BMW M GmbH model!”

Who out there thought that BMW’s 5-Series Gran Turismo was a bad idea? Well, apparently BMW of North America CEO Jim O’Donnell also feels the same – and by same we mean what many of you out there are thinking; that the quirky looking 5-Series Gran Turismo should have never come to life.

Okay let’s be clear here, O’Donnell really doesn’t think that about the 5-Series Gran Turismo, however he is regretting BMW North America’s decision to stop selling the 5-Series station wagon in the United States.

So far, sales of the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo have been disappointing. Last year, BMW stopped selling the 5-Series station wagon, in hopes that those customers would go over to the 5-Series Gran Turismo.

“The disappointment I have is that I thought a lot of our 5-series station wagon customers would go with the GT,” O’Donnell says. “In point of fact, that is not happening. We have lost those customers to the competition — mainly to Mercedes-Benz. The GT has attracted 7- and 5-series customers and conquests, but not the station wagon customer we had hoped.”

In 2010, BMW sold 2,848 units of the 5-Series Gran Turismo. During the first four months of 2011, BMW sold just 720 unit of the ’5-Series station wagon’ replacement. When the model initially made its debut, BMW had targeted annual sales of 4,000 to 8,000 units.

So will BMW bring back the 5-Series wagon? Not yet.

“It’s in the back of my mind,” he says. “When we do the next generation, maybe we should.”

Ever since the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo made its debut, we’ve been hearing rumors about a 3-Series sibling for the half-sedan, half-minivan model. Up until today, the model has been known as the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo; however, new reports suggest that the model will carry the BMW 4-Series badge.

Based on the next-generation 3-Series, the BMW 4-Series will sit between the new 3-Series and the 5-Series.

The BMW 4-Series will complement the 3-Series range but will take on the likes of the Audi A5 Sportback.

Sources say that BMW won’t released the 4-Series until after the next-generation 3-Series is launched next year. With that in mind, you can expect to see the BMW 4-Series on the roads sometime in 2013-2014.

We’ve been hearing about a BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo getting the green light for production since July 2009. We now have some more details on the model courtesy of the popular BMW insider known as Scott27.

According to Scott27, the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo will skip the twin-trunk arrangement as found in the 5-Series Gran Turismo and just offer a simple hatchback. He says that BMW also plans on offering both, its new 2.0L 4-cylinder TwinPower turbo and a 4-cylinder turbo diesel in the lineup. The high-end models of the 3-Series Gran Turismo will offer 6-cylinder units and a hybrid drivetrain. BMW’s all-wheel-drive will also be available as an option.

Design wise the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo will look much like its big brother but will have a much lower and sleeker stance than the 5-Series Gran Turismo.

So what happens to the BMW 3-Series station-wagon? God knows.

Following the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo and the much rumored 3-Series Gran Turismo, BMW is working on yet another niche model – a shooting brake version of the next-generation 6-Series. Product development chief Dr. Klaus Draeger confirmed that BMW’s design head Adrian van Hooydonk has already worked up a concept design, which may make its debut at the upcoming 2010 Paris Motor Show.

BMW will study public reaction towards the concept at the Paris Motor Show and will decide later whether or not to give the model the green light for production. It is reported that BMW could recycle the Gran Turismo name for the shooting brake 6-Series.

The concept will be based on the Gran Coupe four-door shown at the 2010 Beijing Motor Show earlier this year. Insiders say, that the shooting brake 6-Series model is being studied to widen the appeal of the next-generation 6-Series.

It has been previously reported that Mercedes-Benz is working on a shooting brake version of the next-generation CLS-Class.

BMW is recalling over 6,000 units of the 2010 to 2011 model year 5-Series Gran Turismo due to a glitch in the vehicle’s fuel-storage and gauge.

“The vehicle’s fuel-level sensor within the fuel tank can become wedges against the tank,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement. “If this occurs, the fuel gauge in the instrument cluster would display a larger amount of fuel than was actually in the tank. As a result, if the tank became empty, the vehicle could stall, increasing the risk of a crash.”

BMW has not provided the NHTSA with a fix and notification schedule. Owners experiencing the problem can call BMW at 1-800-525-7417.

So if you thought you’re EfficientDynamics skills were at an all-time high – you’re mistaken.

Press Release:

HAMANN turns BMW 5 series Gran Turismo into top-class crossover between SUV and limousine

HAMANN Motorsport has given the current BMW 5 Gran Turismo a significantly more dynamic appearance and turned the crossover between a comfortably spacious SUV and an elegant limousine into one of the most exclusive multi-purpose vehicles in the luxury class. As a renowned specialist of exquisite modifications for BMW automobiles, HAMANN is offering powerful performance improvements, noteworthy sportiness when it comes to engine components and an aerodynamics programme with exciting styling for the Gran Turismo in the 5 series.

The high sitting position of a SUV, the versatility of a van and the exclusive feeling of spaciousness of a limousine: The BMW 5 series Gran Turismo developed specifically for the US market is already an unusual top-class, multi-purpose vehicle when it leaves the plant. HAMANN has topped this and has given the BMW, internally known as the F 07 series, a much more exclusive and sporty look. Sophisticated components have been developed for the HAMANN aerodynamics programme and processed with top-quality workmanship. The result: a breathtaking overall design with optimised airflow across the entire vehicle. A lowering kit for the models 530d, 535i and 550i including air suspension provides the multi-purpose limousine with a much longer and dynamic appearance, even in a standing position. Perfectly synergised body components complete the exclusive appearance of the GT 5 series by HAMANN. The product range includes a front spoiler to be mounted on the standard front spoiler of the series, side skirts and a rear spoiler in a subtle or striking design, as required. Both provide reduced lift force at the rear axle and thus considerably improve the driving dynamics. A new rear apron makes room for the HAMANN mufflers. The four impressive stainless steel exhaust pipes feature an imposing diameter of 90 mm and create an extraordinarily robust sound.

The HAMANN motor specialists have developed a powerful performance gain from 245 PS (180 kW) to 275 PS (202 kW) for the 5 series GT 530d. The torque, an even more important factor when it comes to driving pleasure, simultaneously increases from 540 Nm to an impressive 620 Nm at 1750 RPM. Thanks to HAMANN Motorsport, the 5 series Gran Turismo 530d, whose performance is enhanced due to optimisation of the engine characteristics by means of reprogramming of the series Motronic, boasts 20 Nm more torque than the standard 535d, and that for only a fraction of the surcharge actually due.

Befitting its image, the modified Gran Turismo boasts gigantic 22-inch tyres: The elegantly styled HAMANN alloy wheel ANNIVERSARY EVO has been specially developed for the requirements of heavyweight, truly massive vehicles. In line with HAMANN’s philosophy on modifications, state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and the use of special aluminium alloy ensure maximum load capacities at low weight. HAMANN ANNIVERSARY EVO designer wheels for the BMW 5 Gran Turismo are available in the sizes 9.0 x 22 for the front and 10.5 x 22 for the back. Wide-base tyres are fitted front (265/30ZR20) and back (295/25ZR20).

The HAMANN interior matches the grand feel of the exterior. Pedals and the footrest come in an aluminium design, and the black foot mats feature a silver HAMANN inscription for sporty emphasis. HAMANN Motorsport offers a high-quality, wide range of products for additional modification and individual tailoring of the interior of the BMW 5 series Gran Turismo.

Press Release:

BMW xDrive on All Engine Variants of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo and the BMW 740d.

Munich. BMW, the world’s leading manufacturer of premium cars, is consistently enlarging its wide range of all-wheel-drive models. Starting in June and, respectively, September 2010, all engine variants of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo will also be available with intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive technology. And also starting in September, the BMW 740d xDrive will become the top diesel in the luxury sedan class to feature this innovative drive system.

The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo combines elegance, spaciousness, comfort and variability in a truly unique car concept ““ and now this combination offering supreme motoring comfort is becoming even more thrilling and overwhelming

Making its debut in April at Auto China Beijing 2010, the BMW 550i xDrive Gran Turismo is powered by a supreme V8 boasting BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and High Precision Injection. Displacing 4.4 litres, this outstanding eight-cylinder delivers maximum output of 300 kW/407 hp all the way from 5,500 ““ 6,400 rpm as well as peak torque of 600 Newton-metres/442 lb-ft maintained consistently between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm.

This superior torque coming in at an early point and maintained throughout a broad speed range is now converted into supreme driving dynamics even more precisely and in even more superior style through BMW xDrive technology, accelerating the car to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. Top speed is cut off by the engine’s electronic control unit at 250 km/h or 155 mph. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle, finally, is 11.8 litres/100 km, equal to 23.9 mpg imp, with CO2 emissions amounting to 275 grams per kilometre.

The BMW 550i xDrive Gran Turismo is the first model to combine such intelligent all-wheel drive with the supreme driving dynamics, motoring comfort and efficiency of an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The straight-six diesel engine in the BMW 530d xDrive Gran Turismo likewise represents the latest state-of-the-art in BMW engine development. Displacing 3.0 litres, the engine comes with an all-aluminium crankcase, its turbocharger system featuring variable intake geometry ensuring a superior surge of power and performance tailored harmoniously to all kinds of driving conditions.

Fuel is delivered by the latest generation of piezo-injectors operating at a maximum pressure of 1,800 bar. This gives the engine maximum peak output of 180 kW/245 hp at 4,000 rpm, with torque reaching its peak of 540 Newton-metres/398 lb-ft at just 1,750 rpm.

Benefiting from this kind of power, the BMW 530d xDrive Gran Turismo accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 235 km/h or 146 mph.

At the same time the car combines this sporting performance with average fuel consumption of 6.9 litres/100 kilometres, equal to 40.9 mpg imp, in the EU test cycle. The CO2 rating, finally, is 183 grams per kilometre.

The BMW 535d xDrive Gran Turismo features a second even more powerful representative of the new generation of straight-six BMW diesels. Boasting BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and common rail direct fuel injection, the all-aluminium power unit in this equally outstanding model develops maximum output of 220 kW/300 hp at 4,400 rpm as well as peak torque of 600 Newton-metres/442 lb-ft maintained consistently between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

The straight-six gasoline power unit in the BMW 535i xDrive Gran Turismo combines turbocharging, High Precision Injection and variable VALVETRONIC valve management with one another. This unique combination gives the BMW TwinPower Turbo an extremely spontaneous and direct response to the gas pedal. This outstanding response is then further optimised by VALVETRONIC valve management as well as the turbocharger system applying the twin-scroll principle both in the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger to separate the ducts and flow channels of three cylinders at a time.

With its high-tech injection nozzles, High Precision Injection doses fuel with maximum precision, delivering the fuel required into the combustion chambers at a pressure of up to 200 bar.

Displacing 3.0 litres, this outstanding six-cylinder delivers maximum output of 225 kW/306 hp at 5,800 rpm. Peak torque of 400 Newton metres/295 lb-ft, in turn, comes between 1,200 and 5,000 rpm.
With the top-of-the-range BMW 750i xDrive and BMW 750Li xDrive already introducing BMW’s intelligent all-wheel-drive system in the 2010 model year in the 7 Series, the BMW 740d xDrive is making its appearance in September.

With its all-aluminium power unit, the BMW 740d xDrive boasts BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology as well as common-rail direct fuel injection with its piezo-injectors operating at a pressure of up to 2,000 bar. Maximum output, as a result, is 225 kW/306 hp, with peak torque of 600 Newton-metres/442 lb-ft maintained consistently between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

Permanent, electronically controlled all-wheel drive ensures exactly the right distribution of engine power under all driving conditions. Precise and quick drive power control, finally, gives this supreme luxury sedan absolutely safe and incomparable driving behaviour at all times.

Originally BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive technology was conceived for the BMW X models, then being introduced step-by-step in the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 3 Series, and the BMW 7 Series. The big forte of this superior technology is its uniquely precise control and engine management helping to optimise traction on rough surfaces and at the same time deliver supreme driving dynamics to the road.

The system stands out as a particularly intelligent all-wheel-drive technology by distributing drive power through a power divider with an electronically controlled multiple-plate clutch in exactly the right way and properly dosed to the correct axle and wheels with optimum road contact at any given point in time.

Featuring this superior system, BMW xDrive enhances driving stability also in dynamic bends by recognising even the slightest tendency to over- and understeer at an early point and taking appropriate counter-action right away.

Not a fan of the new BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo or the Acura ZDX? Well, neither are Lexus orInfiniti. The two Japanese brands aren’t ready or looking to venture into big luxury midsize hatchbacks since American buyers famously don’t favor hatchbacks, even in the lower market segments.

Ben Poore, Nissan North America’s vice president of the Infiniti business unit, told AutoObserver that Infiniti isn’t going to take a shot at the new segment anytime soon. Poore said that Infiniti’s research and clinics aren’t showing any evidence of demand for premium hatchbacks.

“What they’re seeing is a much stronger preference (among consumers) for a trunk,” Poore told AutoObserver.

“It’s a very different styling,” he said. “I’d rather be on (either) the crossover styling or the trunk styling.”

As for Lexus, despite introducing the new CT 200h compact hybrid hatchback, the brand has no plans of taking on BMW’s 5-Series Gran Turismo, according to Dave Nordstrom, Lexus vice president of marketing.

“We have not seen the demand from our customers – but we continue to look at it,” says Nordstrom.

Press Release:

Comfort meets Power: Grand Tour with the 5-series GT by AC Schnitzer

“Gran Turismo” means “Grand Tour”, and this is the principle behind the 5-series GT by AC Schnitzer. The performance upgrade from 245 to 286 HP for the six-cylinder 530d already gives the standard car more pulling power and racing flair, which is demonstrated externally by the AC Schnitzer engine styling with capacity logo.

Yet the 5-series GT by AC Schnitzer doesn’t just bring a gleam to the eyes of BMW fans, but acoustically it delivers what the aesthetics promise at first glance. The AC Schnitzer twin sports rear silencer is the ideal tuning product for drivers with an appreciation of engine sound, to whom design elements such as the chromed “Sports Trim” tailpipe trims and the chromed “Racing” tailpipe trim are equally important.

Impressive comfort in driving behaviour, even on dynamic driving on twisty roads, is achieved by the AC Schnitzer suspension spring set. The tuning by the Aachen specialists makes the 5-series GT convincing in every speed range thanks to its superb agility. Two tonnes of unladen weight are irrelevant when the car is glued to the tarmac by the AC Schnitzer front and rear spoilers. Bonnet Vents with chromed centre web combine individual design with sophisticated engineering. The side lines are subtly emphasised by the AC Schnitzer side skirts, and the flowing dynamics of the coupé-like roof line are further enhanced by the AC Schnitzer rear skirt.

The comfort of the Gran Turismo took priority in the fundamental architecture of the BMW 5-series GT. So the specialists at AC Schnitzer completed the stylish elegance of the interior with a cover for the i-Drive System Controller, foot rest and pedal set in aluminium. Behind the frameless doors, velours footmats and boot mat welcome the driver.

To enjoy a “Grand Tour”, the passengers must be well supported, so the silver AC Schnitzer wheels Type IV in 19″ or the BiColor Version in 19″ and 20″ provide the perfect conditions technically and visually for an extraordinary trip. With the AC Schnitzer wheels Type VII in silver and BiColor in 22″ and the alloy forged wheels in Type V in 20″ and 22″, the drive is even more firmly planted. Another ideal choice is the brand-new Type VIII rims in 19″ or the racing forged alloys Type VIII in 22″. The new wheel with its double spokes in BiColor Finish is an evolution of the well-known Type VI wheel. All wheels are available with suitable tyres.

Driving comfort and performance at the highest level – that’s the promise from the 5-series GT by AC Schnitzer – a promise which is guaranteed to be kept on the next “Grand Tour”.

It’s nothing as serious as Toyota’s pedal and brake issues so don’t get scared if you own either of the BMW vehicles.

Basically, the recall is due to a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standard No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims.” The tire pressure label on the vehicles incorrectly indicates the vehicle”s seating capacity as five passengers when its actual seating capacity is four. In the 7-Series the recall refers only to the luxury package that adds the option of “rear comfort seats,” which adds power seats and reduces rear-seating capacity from three to two.

BMW hasn’t set a date on when the recall will begin but owners can call BMW at 800-831-1117 for more information.

Press Release:

2011 Arrives Early for BMW – MY2011: Enhanced Performance and Efficiency, Value Packages and No Price Increase.

MY2011: Enhanced Performance and Efficiency, Value Packages and No Price Increase.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ ““ January 25, 2010″¦ BMW has announced an early, exciting start to its 2011 model year in the United States. Most BMW vehicles receive minor changes for MY2011 in the form of options and new or revised packages, but some models are either all-new (for example, the new BMW 5 Series sedan and BMW ALPINA B7) or substantially updated (3 Series Coupe and Convertible). For existing models, what will not change for the start of the MY2011 are base Manufacturer Suggested Retail Prices.

Highlight: Expansion of “Value Packages” for 1 and 3 Series Models
In 2009, BMW introduced a “Value Package” ““ a $0.00 (No Charge) option that included leather upholstery and the integrated iPod adapter on the 5 Series and 328i/xi Sedans. As expected, the Value Package proved to be very popular, and as such, the concept is being extended to additional models. The $0.00 Value Package again includes leather upholstery and the iPod adapter as its key components but may also include several additional options, depending on the model.
(Journalist note: Details are listed in Appendix i)

Highlight: New “Convenience Package” Available for 1 and 3 Series
Throughout 2009 BMW spent time talking to Dealers and Client Advisors about possible ways to improve our option offering and the value of our package structure. Based on this feedback from Dealers and Client Advisors on, BMW has developed “Convenience Package” for the 1 and 3 Series for MY 2011. This package brings considerable value to a number of options that share the theme of Convenience and are typically ordered together anyway. The Convenience Package content varies depending on the model but always includes the Alarm System, Comfort Access (keyless entry) and Park Distance Control. It retails for as low as $1,000 on the 135i Coupe and Convertible.
(Journalist note: Details are listed in Appendix ii)

Highlight: New Inline 6 Cylinder Twin-Scroll Turbo Engine (N55)
Beginning with MY2011 production, most models currently utilizing the twin turbo inline 6 cylinder N54 engine will switch to the new single twin-scroll inline 6 cylinder N55 engine. The new engine shares the same aluminum block as the previous engine but now uses a new cylinder head with BMW VALVETRONIC combined with a single twin scroll type turbo to deliver faster response and more efficiency. The performance figures remain the same at 300hp and 300 lb-ft torque but the efficiency improves by an impressive 7%. The new engine will be installed in the 135i Coupe and Convertible, the 335i Sedan, Coupe and Convertible, the new 535i Sedan when it arrives later this year, the 535i Gran Turismo arriving this spring and finally, the X6 xDrive35i.

The 300hp version of the twin-turbo N54 engine will continue to be offered in the Z4 sDrive35i and upgraded versions of the N54 will power the 740i/Li, Z4 sDrive35is, and the 335is Coupe/Convertible.

1 Series Coupe/Convertible
The 2011 BMW 1 Series Coupe goes on sale this April with several improvements. In addition to the Value and Convenience Packages described above, the Cold Weather Package has been enhanced with a heated steering wheel and the retail price has been increased $150 from $600 to $750. A Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces the HiFi System Professional with no change in retail price ($875). In line with the very sporty nature of the 135i Coupe/Convertible, the 7-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) replaces the STEPTRONIC automatic transmission with an option price of $1,575. The STEPTRONIC 6 speed automatic transmission will continue to be available on the 128i Coupe/Convertible for a retail price of $1,375.

Base MSRP (including $875 Destination & Handling) for all the 1 Series models remain unchanged for MY2011. The 128i Coupe and 135i Coupe start at $30,025 and $36,925, respectively. The 128i Convertible and 135i Convertible start at $35,075 and $41,225, respectively.

3 Series Sedan
The 2011 BMW 3 Series Sedan goes on sale this spring, and each model features changes worthy of mention. Headlining the news is BMW”s all-new 300hp inline-6 engine for the 335i Sedan. BMW”s enthusiast-celebrated 6-speed manual transmission remains standard, and the 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission remains optional for $1,375. New shift paddles (left-shift down, right-shift up) for the STEPTRONIC may be added to the Sport steering wheel for $100 when the $2,150 Sport Package is ordered.

For the first time since its introduction, the BMW 335d Sedan is now available with the
M Sport Package for $3,750. On all 3 Series models, the optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces BMW”s HiFi Professional System.

The 328i Sedan and 335i Sedan start at $34,025 and $41,475, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling. The 328i xDrive Sedan and 335i xDrive Sedan start at $36,025 and $43,475, respectively, including Destination & Handling. The 335d Sedan featuring BMW Advanced Diesel technology with BluePerformance starts at $44,825, including the 6-speed automatic transmission and Destination & Handling.

3 Series Sports Wagon
The 2011 3 Series Sports Wagon goes on sale this spring with an MSRP of $36,575 for the 328i Sports Wagon, and $38,575 for the 328i xDrive (all-wheel drive) Sports Wagon. New for MY2011 is the $2,350 Convenience Package, which includes Alarm System, Comfort Access, ultrasonic Park Distance Control, and BMW”s Xenon adaptive headlights. On all
3 Series models, the optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces BMW”s HiFi Professional System. Also for 2011, Vermillion Red exterior paint replaces Barbera Red, and Deep Sea Blue replaces Monaco Blue metallic exterior paint.

3 Series Coupe
BMW has substantially updated the 3 Series Coupe for model year 2011. Headlining the changes are new headlights and tail lights, a new hood and kidney grille, new side skirts, new wheels, and new front and rear fascias. Under the skin, the 335i Coupe has been fitted with the new “N55″ twin scroll turbocharged inline-6 engine, and may be coupled to the standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic transmission. In addition to the new Vermillion Red and Deep Sea Blue exterior colors, Mineral White Metallic exterior paint will be available on the Coupe starting in June. On all 3 Series models, the optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces BMW”s HiFi Professional System. Also, as part of the update, BMW has made new Bamboo Anthracite Wood trim available on the interior.

Perhaps the biggest news for enthusiast coupe drivers is the arrival of the BMW 335is Coupe. This high-performance model features BMW”s award-winning twin-turbocharged inline-6 (N54), with output of 320 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. A special overboost function permits a temporary torque increase to 370 lb-ft. Cooling the extra heat generated by the increased power is a standard oil cooler and an extra water cooler (radiator), as well as the enormous front air ducts included with the standard M Sport upgrades. An emotionally charged sport exhaust system has been fitted to perfectly capture the serious driving intentions of the 335is. Black kidney grilles, mirror caps, and Shadowline exterior trim lead the eyes to the rear where a rear diffuser with a body-color and black insert is located. Inside, the 335is Coupe receives a full M Sport enhancement with unique trim and badges. Those enthusiasts who prefer not to have it will appreciate the ability to delete the standard glass moonroof. For the first time on the 3 Series (excluding M3) the Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) will be available on the 335is as a $1,575 option.

The 328i Coupe and 335i Coupe start at $37,075 and $43,525, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling. The all-wheel drive models 328i xDrive Coupe and 335i xDrive Coupe start at $38,975 and $45,425 respectively. The high-performance 335is Coupe will go on sale in June at an MSRP of $50,525.

3 Series Convertible
Like the 3 Series Coupe, BMW has substantially updated the 3 Series Convertible for model year 2011. Headlining the changes are new headlights and tail lights, a new hood and kidney grille, new side skirts, new wheels, and new front and rear fascias. Under the skin, the 335i Convertible has been fitted with the new “N55″ twin-scroll turbocharged inline-6 engine, and may be coupled to the standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic transmission. In addition to the new Vermillion Red and Deep Sea Blue exterior colors, Mineral White Metallic exterior paint will be available on the Convertible starting in June. On all 3 Series models, the optional Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces BMW”s HiFi Professional System. Also, as part of the update, BMW has made new Bamboo Anthracite Wood trim available on the interior.

Convertible drivers with a love for dynamic performance will be excited to learn of the new BMW 335is Convertible. This high-performance model features BMW”s award-winning twin-turbocharged inline-6 (N54), with output of 320 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. A special overboost function permits a temporary torque increase to 370 lb-ft. Cooling the extra heat generated by the increased power is a standard oil cooler and an extra water cooler (radiator), as well as front air ducts included with the standard M Sport upgrades. Sport suspension and a sport exhaust system have been fitted to properly enhance the driving experience. Black kidney grilles, mirror caps, and Shadowline exterior trim lead the eyes to the rear where a rear diffuser with a body-color and black insert is located. Inside, the 335is Convertible receives a full M Sport enhancement with unique trim and badges. For the first time on the 3 Series (excluding M3) the Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) will be available on the 335is as a $1,575 option.

The 328i Convertible and 335i Convertible start at $45,875 and $52,075, respectively, including $875 Destination & Handling. The 335is Convertible goes on sale in April and will start at $59,075 including Destination & Handling.

5 Series Sedan

BMW ALPINA B7
The 2011 BMW ALPINA B7 sedan will join BMW”s North American product range as the most dynamic 7 Series model. The BMW ALPINA B7 represents the second generation of ALPINA automobiles based on the BMW 7 Series to be offered in the US. The first BMW ALPINA B7 was offered as a limited edition for the 2007 and 2008 model years. Newly interpreted and based on the current BMW 7 Series platform, the B7 will again set the benchmark in terms of performance, refinement, technology, luxury and exclusivity.

Yielding exquisite levels of power and torque from the twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8, and in conjunction with the electronically-adjustable suspension with active roll stabilization, the new B7 promises to offer a spectrum of driving experiences so broad as to be unheard of in this class of automobiles. The evolution of the traditional 20-spoke 21″ ALPINA CLASSIC wheels underlines the fresh design language found throughout the B7 and imparts to it a distinctive appearance and powerful stance.

The B7 sedan is equipped with BMW”s twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter, all-aluminum, High Precision Direct Injection V-8 engine which has been enhanced by ALPINA and is capable of producing 500 (373kW) horsepower and 516 lb-ft (700Nm) of torque. This rear-wheel drive performance/luxury Sedan achieves 0-60 mph in 4.5 sec. With maximum torque available across an unusually broad engine range, from 3,000 to 4,750 rpm, the B7 accelerates effortlessly from virtually any speed.

The B7 sedan is finished with ALPINA aerodynamic developments, including front and rear spoilers which not only enhance the appearance but also improve stability and performance at high speeds. In true “form-follows-function” fashion, the ALPINA front integrates the fresh-air requirements of the transmission and engine oil coolers, which are separated out of the main cooler module for improved efficiency. The spoilers reduce lift at the front by 30% and rear by15%. The exhaust system”s two double tailpipes are seamlessly integrated into the rear bumper. The newest evolution of the traditional 20-spoke ALPINA CLASSIC wheels gives the B7 a distinctive appearance and powerful stance.

The interior of the B7 sedan features ALPINA blue illuminated door sill trims, the SWITCH-TRONIC steering wheel in hand-stitched LAVALINA leather, and the Black-Panel LCD screen instrument cluster branded with ALPINA.

The full complement of BMW 7 Series exterior colors remains available, in addition to the signature ALPINA Blue metallic paint. Both short- and long-wheelbase models will be offered. The BMW ALPINA B7 will go on sale at authorized BMW Centers in Spring of 2010. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.

Based on the 5th-generation BMW 7 Series, this unique car sets new standards for performance and efficiency in the premium luxury class.

The symbiosis of a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine with a 3-phase synchronous electric motor gives the BMW ActiveHybrid 7 a combined output of 455 hp and maximum torque of 515 lb-ft from 2000 ““ 3000 rpm. Power is transmitted via an 8-speed automatic transmission with the electric motor positioned between the engine and the torque converter. The electric motor receives its supply of energy from a lithium-ion battery developed specifically for this automobile.

The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, while delivering fuel economy approximately 15% better than the 750i and 750Li. Auto Start Stop maximizes efficiency by avoiding engine idling when stopped.
