General Motors today released new images of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept giving it the official name of “50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray Concept.”

In a short press release, GM said that the “Corvette Stingray Concept represents both the iconic legacy and an exciting future for Corvette.”

“The Corvette Stingray Concept was developed as an internal design challenge to combine classic Corvette cues with surprisingly high-tech features, modern materials, and a striking new appearance. The car is well-appointed with a clamshell hood, scissor-style doors, ergonomic seats, rear-view camera with night vision enhancement, and a high performance hybrid drive. Interactive touch controls allow the driver to customize the power and efficiency of his or her ride and share it with friends via the in-car camera system and advanced telemetrics.”

Earlier this year, Tom Stephen, GM’s vice chairman of global product development, said that GM may consider offering a hybrid powertrain for the Corvette. To boost fuel-economy GM plans to reduce the weight of the Corvette, offer low resistance tires and an engine with direct injection, variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation.

There is not much to say except that this is the coolest Halloween costume we’ve ever seen. We wonder if this guy will go to the steps as a Chevrolet Camaro and then transform into Bumblebee and scream “TRICK OR TREAT!”

German tuner Irmscher decided to team up with GM for a tribute to the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Bumblebee. However, instead of just throwing another Bumblebee package on a 2010 Camaro, Irmscher is offering a Bumblebee version of the new Chevrolet Cruze.

Based on a 1.8 LT automatic Cruze, Irmscher Bumblebee Cruze features a black exterior with orange stripes, side-view mirror casings and fog lamps in the same color, an orange-painted diffuser, 18-inch Irmscher Turbo Star wheels with 225 mm wide tires and a double-pipe rear silencer. Ride height of the Bumblebee Cruze was lowered by 30 millimeters.

The Irmscher Bumblebee Chevrolet Cruze will make its world debut at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Something tells us that Irmscher got the idea from somewhere else.

Today at Comic-con in San Diego, GM announced the release of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition allowing us Autobot fans a chance to become Sam Witwicky and have our very own Bumblebee parked in our garage.

“When the first TRANSFORMERS movie was setting box office records, we had countless customers asking to purchase the ‘BUMBLEBEE’ Camaro,” said Karen Rafferty, product marketing director, Chevrolet. “Now, they can buy one with the new Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition. Streets all over North America will be buzzing in no time.”

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro TRANSFORMERS Special Edition includes the following:

- AUTOBOT® shield on the driver and passenger side panels
- AUTOBOT® shield on each of the four wheel’s center cap
- AUTOBOT® shield embroidered on interior center console
- “TRANSFORMERS” logo on driver and passenger doors’ sill plates

- High-gloss black center rally stripe package
- Manufacturer’s suggested retail price of package: $995

The Transformers Special Edition Package is available on both versions of the Camaro: 304-hp V6 and the V8 Camaro SS. Dealers are now taking orders for the car.

We’ve been quite busy wrapping up our week with the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS (it goes back tomorrow and we’re really depressed). Nonetheless, the show must go on and it’s now time for our daily (give or take a day here and there) Miscellaneous Thoughts post.

Megan Fox cleaned Michael Bay’s Ferrari for Transformers audition: Director Michael Bay and actress Megan Fox have been on a fairly rocky relationship recently. In a recent interview, Fox said that Bay’s Transformers sequel was “not a movie about acting.” Bay eventually hit back saying Fox was “ridiculous” and said she “had some growing up to do.” Making it just a little more spicy, U.K. broadcaster Jason Solomons reported that Fox was forced to wash Bay’s Ferrari when she auditioned for her breakthrough role in Transformers. ”He made her wash his Ferrari while he filmed her,” Solomons said. When questioned, Fox said that she “didn’t know what had happened to that footage.”  When Solomons asked Bay, he said :”Er, I don’t know where it is either.” I think we have the footage somewhere around our office. – SFGate

Optimus Prime does the Top 10 List on Letterman: Autobots leader Optimus Prime joined Letterman to list the “Top Ten Things That Sound Cool When Spoken by a Giant Robot.”

You better believe we’re going to head to the theaters on the eve of the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen release date and catch good seating for a midnight show.

It’s a bond between man and machine that very few understand and it seems like these Chinese citizens take it to the next level.

Celebrating the release of the sequel, a bunch of Transformers, Bumblebee and Camaro fans in China got together to go on a parade. It seems like on one Camaro was on hand, while others took their yellow Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Accords and Nissans and tricked them out with black striping to show support for their favorite AutoBot.

Michael Bay’s Transformers series gets the best of most of us nerds and auto enthusiasts. The thought of our cars turning into robots to save mankind is not only out of this world, but something only ‘geeks’ can imagine. GM will be offering a limited-edition 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee Package, which we expect will go for a hefty price tag.

And what do you do when you don’t have the money to pay for an exclusive limited-edition Bumblebee Camaro? You build one for yourself. Take this huge Chevrolet Camaro and Bumblebee fan in China.

Story goes that he couldn’t afford the U.S. equivalent of $200,000 for a brand new Camaro in China and decided to buy the Chevrolet Cruze instead. He then ‘transformed’ his car into a ‘Bumblebee Cruze’ instead of the ‘Bumblebee Camaro.’

Brilliant. AutoBots… roll out.

This week is turning out to be pretty exciting for us Transformers fans. Linkin Park released their new single, ‘New Divide,’ for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Soundtrack; GM announced it will be offering a limited edition Bumblebee 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Package; and now, director Michael Bay has just released three TV spots for the new sequel.

Jason Drees of Symdon Chevrolet-Pontiac in Wisconsin has just confirmed that GM will be offering a limited-edition 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee package, which will be available to order starting June 1. Production of the limited-edition Bumblebee 2010 Camaro will run from June 24 to December.

The package will be available on LT and SS models and will feature the Rally Yellow with black Bumblebee stripes and Transformers badging on wheel centers, sill plates and embroidered console lid.

After posting many stories of the auto industry taking the biggest hit in its history in years, we wrap today up with something that will get you pretty excited for June 24, 2009. For all you Autobot, Bumblebee, Megan Fox and Chevrolet Camaro fans, that date stands for the release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Trailer no.3 is longer, louder and filled with more excitement getting us restless for the release to the sequel of our favorite movie. It even features our favorite piece from the original Transformers score soundtrack – Scorponok.

You’ve seen the first trailer for the Transformers sequel during Super Bowl XLIII; you’ve also seen an 18-inch Bumblebee being erected for the 2009 Chicago Motor Show; and recently you saw the Autobots take over Windy City.

Earlier this morning we showed you images of the Bumblebee Camaro in robot form being put together on the eve of the 2009 Chicago Auto Show press days. Well, the show is now underway and General Motors has just unveiled the new additions to the Autobot team that will make their onscreen debut in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen this June.

The new additions include: Sideswipe who is based on the new Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Concept aka Stingray Concept; Skids and Mudflap who are based on the Chevrolet Beat (now known as the Chevy Spark) and Trax Concept; and the Jolt a fuel-efficient Autobot based on the 2011 Chevrolet Volt.

Of course, the Autobots aren’t complete without Bumblebee. The new and upgraded Bumblebee is based on the new production 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS model with a couple of visual modifications.

AUTOBOTS® WITH BOW TIES: CHEVROLET-BASED CHARACTERS STARRING IN ‘TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN’ AT THE CHICAGO AUTO SHOW

CHICAGO – Visitors to the Chevrolet display at this year’s Chicago Auto Show (Friday through Feb. 22) will be treated to an out-of-this-world vehicle display – the automotive stars from the upcoming DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures release, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”

Five Chevrolet-based characters – including four all-new characters – are featured in the new film set to open in the United States on June 26. All of them are at the Chevrolet display. The four new movie characters include:

- SIDESWIPE – a stylized Corvette vision concept vehicle
- SKIDS and MUDFLAP – twin AUTOBOTS® based on Chevy’s Beat (a concept that will go into production as the Chevy Spark in 2011) and Trax concepts
- JOLT – an AUTOBOT-based on Chevy’s upcoming Volt extended-range electric vehicle

BUMBLEBEE™, the heroic AUTOBOT based on Chevrolet’s Camaro concept from the first “Transformers” movie, returns with a high-performance attitude. Joining the vehicles on stage will be BUMBLEBEE in his AUTOBOT form, standing almost 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and 13 feet (4 meters) wide.

“Chevrolet is thrilled to again be part of one of the most anticipated movies in years,” said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. “‘Transformers’ gives us a great opportunity to connect with young people on their terms, with a dynamic, environmentally friendly image. Directed by Michael Bay, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” sees the AUTOBOTS confront a new threat from DECEPTICONS® bent on avenging their earlier defeat on Earth. The new AUTOBOT characters in their current Chevy-based form square off against new, tougher foes determined to rule the universe.

SIDESWIPE takes the form of a sleek, vision concept dreamed up by the Corvette designers at GM. The design is influenced by the original Stingray race car, introduced in 1959, but also draws on Corvette heritage cues from other generations. It brings them together in a futuristic shape that seems to be equal parts racecar and space ship.

“SIDESWIPE represents an exercise in exploration for the Corvette,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design. “By giving my creative team the freedom to design no-holds-barred vision concepts, it helps them push boundaries and look at projects from different perspectives.”

The Beat and Trax-based characters, SKIDS and MUDFLAP, remain faithful to their concept designs introduced at the 2007 New York Auto Show – although each wears new paint and other exterior accessories. And while they may be small cars, when they turn into fighting AUTOBOTS®, they pack a big punch.

The other new AUTOBOT, JOLT, appears in the production form of Chevy’s 2011 Volt extended-range electric vehicle. With the capability of up to 40 miles (64 km) of pure electric propulsion, plus hundreds of more miles with the assistance from its Voltec powertrain system, the real-life Volt will change driving in America.

Of course, the AUTOBOT team isn’t complete without BUMBLEBEE, the yellow Camaro based on the new, 2010 production model. Earlier this month we found out that the mystery Autobot we’ve been seeing in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen spy shots is the Chevrolet Corvette Centennial Design Concept due out later this year.

A new Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video has popped showing the Autobots filming in Long Beach, California. The video gives us a first look at the Corvette Centennial Design Concept in action along with Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ironhide, Chevrolet Beat and Trax.

Seems like everyone at GM is running around to save the company’s image. According to Reuters, GM is rushing to unveil a production and showroom ready version of the much anticipated Chevrolet Volt by this September. According to sources familiar with the project, GM is counting on the Volt to as sales and speculations on whether GM can survive the economic downturn.

GM hopes an early unveiling of the Volt will help the company break loose of its gas-guzzler image. The automaker is hoping that it will bring back faith in investors and consumers to show that it now more focused on fuel-efficient vehicles. Sources said that GM will complete a production version of the Volt by early August and will show it off in September in time to mark the Generals 100th anniversary.

Well it’s about time! GM first showed the electric Volt at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2007.

To create more buzz around the electricity of the Volt, GM will show off the car in the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie scheduled to be released in June of 2009. We’re guessing the Volt will most likely be an Autobot to go with the ’saving the world image.’

No word on what robots will be played by the Chevrolet Trax and Beat or whether they will transform at all. Nonetheless, it’s great product placement for GM to promote the two compact cars. Imagine a fuel-efficient environmentally friendly transformer.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen will hit theaters on June 26th, 2009 (that’s exactly 371 days from now - yes, we’re a little obsessed with the Transformers series).

How would you feel if you were just passed out after a hard day at work and suddenly you’re awaken by a lot of noise only to find out Michael Bay standing outside along with Shia LaBeouf, Isabel Lucas and the Bumblebee Camaro filming the sequel to the blockbuster hit Transformers.

Well something like that happened to Flickr photographer Zacklur who found the cast and crew of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, filming on his street in Philadelphia (down the street from UPenn to be exact). Besides a couple of pictures, Zacklur managed to catch a short clip of Bumblebee drifting into a parking spot (see it after the jump).

Strange thing about this scene is that Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is not seen with his sweetheart Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox). Instead Isabel Lucas is on hand; she is rumored to play the role of Alice who is supposedly Sam’s college friend… or maybe more.

There are 377 days left until Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen hits theaters. Shooting is well under way and Transformers fanatics are catching spy shots of the cars and trucks on set. Recently spotted is the new Bumblebee, which seems to get a more aggressive look, giving us a hint as to what the 2010 Camaro SS may look like.

Also spotted is a mystery concept. However, with the insanely blurry pictures of the car it’s hard to make out what exactly it is. With over a year left until the debut of Transformers 2, we’re wondering if GM has another concept under its belt that it will use the major blockbuster to promote.

While things aren’t looking too bright for HUMMER, the brand will get some product placement in the upcoming Transformers 2 – Revenge of the Fallen movie that debuts in exactly 385 days.

From the latest spy pics the HUMMER HX Concept that shown at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, is seen on set in an action sequence. The HUMMER HX is a two-door off-road concept along with a convertible body. It’s powered by an E85 FlexFuel 3.6L SIDI V6 that produces 204 horsepower.
