Audi has already confirmed that it will unveil the Audi R8 Spyder and the Audi A5 Sportback at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Following those two world-debuts, Audi’s production A7 Sportback, which will compete with the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-Benz CLS, will debut well into 2010. However, one product in Audi’s lineup is yearning to be redesigned – the Audi A8.

According to CARandDRIVER, the next-generation Audi A8 flagship sedan will be delayed – but only by a couple of months. The 2010 Audi A8 has now been pushed back from its original debut schedule at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show to a remote location at an exclusive event in Florida sometime in December.

What for? Apparently, Audi doesn’t want the 2010 A8 being overshadowed by other auto shows debuts scheduled for Frankfurt. The design is said to be so revolutionary and important to Audi that it doesn’t want it to become “just another auto show debut.” The 2010 NAIAS in Detroit will be the first auto show to host the new A8.

Also Audi doesn’t want the 2010 A8 to kill the sales of the current model, which is still going strong in some markets. The 2010 Audi A8 is scheduled to go on sale in spring 2010.

Whatever may be the case, we’re excited to see Audi’s all-new lineup in 2010.

The current version of the Audi A8 went on sale in the U.S. in 2003 and received a minor face-lift in 2007. Yes – it has gotten really old and Frank The Transporter is getting really bored of his getaway ride. Not to mention the 2009 BMW 7-Series, 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and the Lexus LS have never looked better.

At the 120th annual board meeting of Audi AG, Chairman and CEO Rupert Stadler said that the next-generation of the A8 will make it ”the sportiest luxury sedan in its class.” He said that it will “set new standards with regard to interiors. And we will unveil it to the world in a remarkable fashion in late November.”

According to an Audi insider, the 2011 Audi A8 will hit U.S. roads in fall of 2010. No word on technical specs or pricing as of yet.
