EAA AirVenture Oshkosh has teamed up with its exclusive automotive partner, Ford Motor Company, to create a one-off special edition 2010 Mustang AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll” that will be auctioned off at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) 2009 AirVenture Oshkosh.

The AV-X10 ”Dearborn Doll” features exclusive Satin Silver exterior paint with a yellow nose and rear wing, 19-inch Shelby GT500 wheels in liquid silver with yellow propeller tips, and white gloss accents. The one-off model also features autographs from aviation legends and celebrities attending EAA AirVenture including: Harrison Ford, Edsel B. Ford II, Jack Roush, Carroll Shelby, and others.

Besides the visual modifications you see in the pictures, the AV-X10 (which is based on the 2010 Ford Mustang GT) features performance upgrades from Ford Racing including a Supercharger, Handling Pack, tuned exhaust, and exhaust tips. That helps the AV-X10 produce 550-hp from the 4.6L V8 24-valve engine. Ride height has also been lowered by 1-inch.

The vehicle will be on display at the Ford Hangar at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh starting July 27.

Press Release:

ONE-OF-A-KIND FORD MUSTANG AV-X10 “DEARBORN DOLL” TO BE AUCTIONED AT WORLD’S GREATEST AVIATION CELEBRATION

The Mustang AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll,” will be sold at auction during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) 2009 AirVenture Oshkosh.

Build #1 of 1 Ford Mustang AV-X10 to be sold at auction July 30, at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, with proceeds supporting youth experiences and education

DEARBORN, Mich., July 23, 2009 – Ford Motor Company created a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle, the Mustang AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll,” to be sold at auction during the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) 2009 AirVenture Oshkosh, the world’s greatest aviation celebration. Ford is the exclusive automotive partner with EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and all of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Young Eagles organization. EAA AirVenture Oshkosh will be held from July 27 to Aug. 2 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The name Mustang AV-X10 is trademarked by Ford Motor Company and symbolizes an AirVenture Xperimental project vehicle based on a 2010 Ford Mustang The “10″ designation represents the model year of the Mustang, plus the 10-millionth engine from the Romeo Engine Plant. The one-of-a-kind, fully-customized vehicle was created by a dedicated Ford team, including Mustang Chief Designer Darrell Behmer, Design Manager George Saridakis and Mustang Chief Nameplate Engineer Dave Pericak, and Senior Designers Robert Gelardi and Garen Nicoghosian.. The sale of the AV-X10 will highlight an evening of festivities at the EAA Gathering of Eagles at AirVenture on July 30.

The group that will directly benefit from the auction proceeds is EAA’s Young Eagles, which has provided free introductory flights to nearly 1.3 million young people since 1992 while also teaching the value of hard work, personal responsibility and enhanced math and science skills.

“Ford Motor Company has been a committed partner of EAA throughout the years and especially during AirVenture, where Ford’s support has brought value to those who make “˜Oshkosh’ the pinnacle of their aviation year,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA chairman and president. “The generous creation of such specialty vehicles allows EAA to provide support to its valuable programs and dedicated members inspiring young people and building the future of flight.”

In 2008, a specially built one-of-a-kind Mustang named AV8R raised a record $500,000 for Young Eagles. “Although it will be hard to top the AV8R, the Ford team is committed to delivering another extraordinary vehicle of interest for all enthusiasts and collectors for EAA’s Gathering of Eagles,” said Edsel B Ford II, a member of Ford’s Board of Directors.

The Mustang AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll” is Build #1 of 1 and will be a collector’s dream vehicle. The AV-X10 is based on a 2010 Mustang GT with the glass roof option. From there the car takes on its one-of-a-kind personality. Ford Racing performance modifications (Supercharger, Handling Pack, tuned exhaust, and exhaust tips) help generate 550-horsepower from the aluminum block 4.6L 24-valve engine. The special racing Handling Pack optimizes the performance experience and lowers the ride height by 1-inch.

AV-X10′s stunning design theme includes exclusive Satin Silver exterior paint with yellow nose cone and rear wing, 19″ Shelby GT500 wheels in liquid silver with yellow propeller tips, and white gloss accents emphasizes the connection with the famous P-51 Mustang aircraft from WWII fame and other aircraft from this era. The “Dearborn Doll” nickname is displayed on the front quarter panels using pin-up graphics to enhance the authentic connection to the WWII era fighter planes. The all-glass roof includes a unique Air Force Star and Bar graphic treatment. The aviation inspired interior includes Bader “worn” leather, military khaki shaded, diamond tucked unique seat and door inserts. Ford Racing Pyrometer, Boost, and Fuel Pressure gauges, plus unique “Ground Speed” and AV-X10 cluster graphics complete the package.

Enhancing the value and allure of the vehicle, the Mustang AV-X10 “Dearborn Doll” will also feature autographs from aviation legends and celebrities attending EAA AirVenture, which could include Harrison Ford, Edsel B. Ford II, Jack Roush, Carroll Shelby, and others. The vehicle will be on display at the Ford Hangar at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh beginning July 27.

Additionally, Ford and EAA will give AirVenture attendees the chance to win a 2010 Mustang GT convertible and other cash prizes in a raffle, with proceeds benefiting the EAA Young Eagles program.

During EAA AirVenture, Ford will also be providing opportunities to ride in vehicles which span the past century and point to the future direction of Ford vehicles. AirVenture attendees can ride in one of several Model T’s on site with members of the Model T Ford Club of America as well as participate in the 2011 Ford Fiesta Movement demo drive. Visitors to the Ford Hangar, in the heart of the EAA AirVenture campus, will be invited to experience the new 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor through an exciting simulator experience and test out Ford’s latest features and technologies. Numerous interactive exhibits will also be available to demonstrate the latest Ford “Smart,” “Quality,” “Green,” and “Safe” innovations. More than 50 vehicles will be on display combined with numerous activities to engage and educate visitors of all ages.

The Ford Mustang was originally named so because John Najjar, an executive stylist with Ford during the 1960′s had suggested it, due to his affinity for the WWII fighter plane, the P-51 Mustang. At that time, Najjar hardly knew that the “˜Mustang’ name would one day come to embody the epitome of American muscle. As of late, the retro styled Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro have been all the rage of the muscle-car market, but both owe their very existence today to the Mustang, as it was that car that gave rise to the entire segment.

Unlike the Camaro and the Challenger, which saw pauses and breaks in production, the Mustang is the only muscle car that has consistently been in production since its inception. And now, the release of the 2010 Mustang marked the model’s 45th Anniversary.

At first glance, the ’10 Mustang does not look markedly different from its predecessors, but upon closer inspection, one will notice a much leaner, meaner, and more muscular stance than previous models, making for more refined look inside the vehicle and out. FoMoCo was generous enough to let the staff at egmCarTech test a 2010 Mustang GT Convertible for a week; our review is focused accordingly.

Note: The base 2010 Mustang carries the same 210-hp 4.0L V6 engine as last year’s model.

Despite exterior styling that indicates a slight fear of pushing the envelope of last year’s model, Ford says that the exterior sheet metal is all new, save for the fast-back roofline. The front end brings much muscular appeal to the car with its redesigned fascia, grille, headlamps, fenders, and power dome hood. That appeal is enhanced with new front-rear fenders and sculptured wheel flares. Though not as extensive as the front end, the rear end saw some slight changes in design with its angled rear corners, sculpted deck lid, and most notably, the retro styled sequential turn signal taillights. An optional, spoiler embedded rear-view camera is also available. The wheel-and-tire combinations on the 2010 family of Mustangs also measure 1″ larger than previous years, as they range between 17″ and 19″.

Of course, let’s not forget the more refined and sharp looking pony badge that graces the front grille.

Interior:

The interior design shows the same subtle degree of change as the exterior. Fortunately though, Ford took some time to improve the quality of the interior. The squeaking and creaking noises that were a result of the poorly built, multi-piece, hard plastic interior, are a thing of the past due to the much sleeker designed one-piece, aluminum finish trimmed instrument panel.

The center instrument panel now features refined controls for the dual-climate control system, stereo controls, heated seats and other options. The same ergonomic placement of the controls are carried over to the steering-wheel and the display between the odometer allowing you to control most of the frequently used options without taking your hands off the wheel and eyes off the road.

Seating on the 2010 Ford Mustang GT is quite comfortable. The bucket seats keep your body from swinging side-to-side when you take sharp turns while providing relaxed support during performance-driving. Speaking of performance-driving, muscle-car fans will love the engine sound that is tossed into the interior when you step on the gas-pedal. For those that like to carry a nice conversation with the passenger or their significant other via Bluetooth connectivity, you might find the 2010 Mustang GT’s roar a little inconvenient.

Excited by bells and whistles? The ’10 Mustang is sure to please, with its flawless Microsoft Sync option, and MyColor feature; which gives the driver 125 colors (which we feel is excessive) from which to choose to set the mood of the interior lighting. The aforementioned rear-view camera option was our personal favorite, with its disappearing screen seamlessly embedded into the rear-view mirror.

Performance:

As mentioned above, the base model is offered with the same 210-hp 4.0L V6 engine from last year. Even the GT carries the same 4.6L V8 from last year; however, the power has been increased to 315-hp with a maximum 325 lb-ft of torque, reminiscent of the 2008 Mustang Bullitt. That extra power is achieved by the addition of a cold-air induction system pioneered through Ford Racing Technology. The redline on the V8 has also been moved to 6.500 rpm, a 250 rpm increase from last year, allowing a little more room for excitement. Last years transmission options remain untouched, allowing for a choice between a 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic.

The 2010 Mustang provides for a much tighter and more solid ride than any previous Mustang, mainly due to Reverse-L independent MacPherson struts, and 34-mm tubular stabilizer bar on the front end, a 3-link solid axle with coil springs, Panhard rod, and a 20-mm solid stabilizer bar on the rear end. Handling has also been significantly improved due to the rack and pinion with power assist.

We were a bit disappointed however, by the car’s soft braking. On the GT, braking power comes courtesy of 4-wheel power disc brakes with 4-sensor, 4-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS). Though an improvement over the ’09, we were definitely looking for a much quicker and stronger response when traveling at high-speeds – perhaps in 2011.

Nonetheless, pounce on the gas-pedal and you’ll see your 2010 Mustang GT snort and roar as you scare those looking at you in their rear-view mirror. 0 to 60 comes in 5 seconds, almost a tenth quicker than the previous-generation GT. We’ve heard that the 210-hp V6 Mustang takes about 6.5 seconds to reach 60.

Fuel-economy for the 2010 Mustang GT is rated at 17/23 mpg (city/highway) when mated to a 5-speed automatic and 16/24 mpg when mated to a 5-speed manual. However, Ford recommends using 87 octane for the 4.6L V8 in the owner’s manual so you should be able to save some cash at the pump.

Overall:

So how much does it cost? Go for the V6 210-hp base-model and you can still say that the Mustang is an affordable muscle car with prices starting at $20,995 for the coupe, and $25,995 for the convertible. Go for the GT and get ready to cash out $28,000 for the coupe and $33,000 for the convertible. Our fully loaded (without navigation) 2010 Mustang GT Premium convertible was priced just under $40,000.

The Camaro and Challenger are indeed outstanding looking cars, but the Mustang offers three things that its competitors do not:

1.	The Camaro convertible is not expected to debut until 2011, while a Challenger convertible is as of yet unconfirmed by Chrysler.

2.	The Camaro Z28 is also not expected to hit until 2011, and the 2010 Shelby GT 500′s 540-hp puts the Challenger SRT8′s 425-hp to shame.

3.	Ford is the only American automaker that has yet to seek government assistance, and is far from doing so. When we hear rumors of the 315-hp V8 in the GT being replaced by a new 420-hp Coyote 5.0L V8 in 2011, we can put some stock in them.

The 2010 Ford Mustang is more refined and has more muscle than its predecessors, and as the most affordable American muscle-car, it remains the most iconic.

It’s almost like the glass-roof Ford Mustang has become the third variant in the Ford Mustang lineup. Succeeding the 2009 model, Ford announced today that the 2010 Mustang GT Convertible will be joined by the 2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang when they both arrive at dealerships within the next couple of days.

The panoramic glass used on the 2010 Ford Glass Roof Mustang filters out 90 percent of the sun’s heat-generating infrared (IR) rays and 96 percent of burn-causing ultraviolet (UV) rays. Ford says that “scientific studies show increased exposure to sunshine or bright light – like that provided in the convertible and Glass Roof Mustang – is therapeutic because it regulates the body’s mood-regulating hormone and circadian cycle of sleep and wakefulness.”

“The Mustang’s glass roof gives customers more of what they want, sunshine, while protecting against the sun’s harmful rays.” said Chester Walawender, Glass Technical Expert, Ford Product Development. “If an occupant wants less sun or additional privacy, a retractable mesh sun shade also comes standard.”

The glass roof is available on both the V6 and the V8 powered Mustang GT for $1,995.

“At Ford, we always apply what we learn at the track to the street,” said Fritz Wilke, Mustang Performance/Enthusiast Manager. “The Track Pack and Ford Racing FR3 Handling Pack continue that heritage and give our performance customers great ways to have an even sportier experience in the 2010 Mustang GT coupe.”

Packaged aimed at performance enthusiasts
Both the 2010 V-6 and GT models feature improved handling, but Team Mustang wanted to create a distinctive option package aimed at performance enthusiasts. Starting with the 2010 GT manual coupe, the engineering team was able to create a package that hits the sweet spot.

The first ingredient was to add a high-performance summer tire, and the 19-inch Pirelli P Zero P255/40ZR-19 proved to be an inspired choice for improved grip. Ford’s engineering team then went to work on the underpinnings of the 2010 Mustang GT coupe, using Ford’s proven technology from the Shelby GT500 program.

The front and rear stabilizer bars from the 2009 Shelby GT500 complement the Pirelli tires and help balance the Track Pack 2010 Mustang GT coupe front to rear. The struts and shocks were retuned for the increased capability of the new tire and stabilizer bar changes. The engineering team also spent significant time at the track to ensure the Track Pack was rewarding on the track and offered a balance of spirited driving and track prowess.

The roll gradient (how much the car rolls while steering) was reduced nearly 13 percent compared with the base 2010 Mustang GT. Damping was increased by 23 percent in the front and 8 percent in the rear in the low- to mid-speed compared to the 2010 Mustang GT.

“By reducing the roll gradient, the car stays flatter in turns,” said Tom Barnes, Vehicle Engineering Manager, 2010 Mustang. “And when the car is flatter, the driver is more in command and more confident in what the car’s doing.

“Great handling comes from great control. A driver’s control of the vehicle is facilitated by information. This Track Pack communicates to the driver through the tires and suspension so well that is it easy to drive very quickly. It rewards smooth driving, while offering great capacity to cover driver error.”

Looking at all areas for improvement
In addition to the hardware changes and extensive tuning, the Ford team also took a more holistic approach to improving the Track Pack Mustang.

“Handling is not just chassis,” Barnes said. “Vehicle dynamics – how the Mustang responds under acceleration and braking – is important as well.”

The solution from the powertrain part of the equation was to use a 3.73 limited-slip axle with carbon-fiber clutch plates.

“The 3.73 axle allows for a more-responsive Mustang, especially at mid-range speeds,” Barnes said. “The carbon-fiber plates allow a very robust architecture in terms of temperature and repeated hard driving on the track.”

Performance® Friction brake pads, which better resist brake fade, are used front and rear. Both the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and AdvanceTrac were retuned to complement the advanced capabilities of the new tires and brakes. AdvanceTrac is standard on the 2010 GT coupe and can be operated in any of three modes: On, Off or Sport.

“The Track Pack covers all the bases,” Barnes said. “The new tires give the Mustang more grip, we have a more-responsive acceleration, better brake linings that are more consistent over time and the car is tied down better because of the changes to the bars and the shock tuning.”

“Track Pack has the grip, the handling and it has the ‘go.’ And it absolutely can be used as a daily driver. Track Pack offers the best of both worlds – great performance on the track or if you’re cruising down the road.”

Ford Racing’s FR3 Handling Pack features components proven out on the racetrack. Included in the pack are dampers, lowering springs, sway bars and a strut tower brace.

“The FR3 Handling Pack is derived from our extensive experience with the Ford Mustang FR500C competing in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge and FIA GT4,” said Andy Slankard, Engineering Supervisor, Ford Racing.

Enhancements from the FR3 Handling Pack include:

* Ride height lowered by more than 1 inch
* Increased spring rate by about 75 pounds to improve turn in and mid-corner performance
* Front and rear sway bars stiffened to eliminate roll
* Re-tuned dampers, increasing the compression and rebound

The Track Pack retails for $1,495 while the FR3 Handling Pack retails for $1,335.

Exactly a month ago, FoMoCo launched the new ”˜10 Unleashed campaign as a part of the 2010 Ford Mustang launch. The campaign gave Mustang lovers the opportunity to live out their ultimate dream experience with the brand-new 2010 Ford Mustang. Ford said that it will select winners ever few weeks; today, we have our first winner by the name of Roger Keeney.

Keeney has been blind since 1990 and hasn’t driven a vehicle in nearly two decades. Despite living without his eyes, Keeney decided to enter Ford’s ’10 Unleashed contest. He eventually received a phone call from Ford asking him to come down to their proving ground in Phoenix, AZ to live his dream of driving the brand new 2010 Ford Mustang GT Convertible.

If you think you have the ultimate 2010 Ford Mustang fantasy, head over www.the2010mustang.com and submit your 250 word essay to enter the contest.

Press Release:

FORD”S ROMEO ENGINE PLANT PRODUCES 10 MILLIONTH ENGINE, CONTINUES TO POWER FORD ICONS

    - Romeo Engine Plant, produces V-8 engines for Ford F-150, Mustang, Shelby GT500, Explorer, E-Series van, Crown Victoria, and the Mercury Grand Marquis
– Plant produces 140 engines an hour on its high-volume line, with hourly and salaried teams focusing on continuous improvement and quality basics.
– In 2008, engines built at Romeo output 88.9 million horsepower, 2,750 times the combined horsepower of this year”s starting field at Daytona.

ROMEO, Mich., Feb. 19, 2009 ““ After years of delivering power to two of Ford Motor Company”s iconic products, the Ford F-150 and Mustang, Romeo Engine Plant has reached a historic milestone ““ the production of its 10 millionth engine.

The 10 millionth engine, a 4.6 liter 3-valve V-8, will be shipped to AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, Mich., to be installed in a new 2010 Mustang GT.

The V-8 engines manufactured at the plant build on two of Ford”s strengths ““ capability for the Ford F-150, the best-selling truck in America, and performance for Mustang, America”s favorite muscle car. In 2008 alone, the engines produced at the plant generated a combined 90 million horsepower, about 2,750 times the combined horsepower of this year”s starting field for the Daytona 500.

“Romeo Engine”s products are powering two of Ford”s iconic vehicles and we focus on quality every minute of every day,” said Plant Manager Shaun Whitehead. “We deal with a great deal of complexity on our lines, and we”ve had very strong quality performance over a very long period of time.”

The Romeo plant, converted from a tractor manufacturing facility, produced its first engine in 1990 ““ a 4.6-liter, two-valve V-8. Today the plant, with a thousand employees, manufactures V-8 engines along with many of their major components including cast iron blocks, crankshafts, cylinder heads, connecting rods, camshafts and aluminum blocks.

The plant operates two lines ““ a high-volume Line, or HVL, and a niche line, where employees meticulously hand build 5.4 liter, 4-valve supercharged engines for the Shelby GT500. The HVL builds 4.6 liter two-valve and three-valve V-8 engines and 4.6 liter 2-valve Flex Fuel V-8 engines, delivering 140 engines an hour.

“We have more than 600 purchase parts from more than 150 suppliers so we deal with a large amount of intricate processes and parts on our line,” Whitehead said. “We have 11 different models on the line that we handle for seven different assembly plant customers ““ as well as the Ford Customer Service Division.”

The engines are shipped to plants in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri and Canada where they are placed in the F-150, Mustang, Econoline, Explorer, Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis models.

The HVL line stretches more than 4,000 feet, with quality monitored every step of the way to deliver continuous improvement. From 2007 to 2008, combined engine warranty data on the 4.6 liter engines showed a 9 percent improvement rate year over year, based on the first three months of use.

“Quality really is our number one priority,” said Quality Manager Phil Kloss. “Our Quality Operating System focuses on continuous improvement and an adherence to quality basics.”

In-line testing is consistently refined and error-proofed to detect and drive prevention of variations. Periodic job observations ensure operators follow instruction sheets 100 percent of the time, and detailed management reviews of all aspects of the system are designed to monitor any changes and ensure seamless launches.

“We have hundreds of eyes throughout our machining and assembly processes,” Kloss said. “Employees on the line constantly bring attention to changes in feel, appearance or test performance ““ even when unrelated to the task at hand.”

That teamwork obviously is paying off ““ both in quantity and quality.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our plant,” said Randy Newsom, UAW Local 400 Chairman at Romeo Engine. “We started this plant with a team concept that was really new for Ford when they converted from the tractor plant. Over the years, we”ve stayed consistent in our team approach, with both hourly and salaried employees working together. We strive to be the best engine builders in the world, and we”d like to build another 10 million.”

“More than 9 million customers have made Mustang one of the world”s most beloved automotive and cultural icons,” said Ken Czubay, Ford’s vice president of U.S. Sales and Marketing. “Making sure this modern legend lives up to their expectations has been our driving force to create the best Mustang ever. Not only is this the best Mustang ever, it”s also the best bang for the buck for our customers.”

Available this spring, the new Mustang features a new exterior and interior design, upgraded materials and a long list of must-have technologies and standard safety equipment ““ such as Ford”s AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control system, all-speed traction control, anti-lock brakes and front and side air bags ““ for an affordable starting price of $20,995 (excluding destination and delivery) for the V-6 coupe and $25,995 for the convertible. The V-8 powered GT coupe base price is $27,995; the GT convertible starts at $32,995. The Shelby GT500 Coupe has a MSRP of $46,325, while the GT500 Convertible starts at $51,225.

Contenders Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger sport base sticker prices ranging from $1,000 to $2,600 more than Mustang.

Unparalleled Design
The new exterior of the Mustang delivers more muscular, athletic styling, with new sheet metal except for the roof, including a refined powerdome hood, new front fenders, a sweeping beltline and a new decklid design. Other exterior notables include new grille and fascia differentiation between the V-6 and GT models, new front and rear fascias, higher wheel arches and new LED sequential taillights.

Mustang”s interior is in a class all by itself, from the new one-piece soft touch instrument panel, chrome encircled gauges and a center console design that pampers the shifter for that perfect feel and level of control.
“Attention to detail is the bedrock of the new interior and what sets Mustang miles apart from the competition,” said Mustang Design Manager Gary Morales.

Industry Leading Technologies
Mustang further distinguishes itself from the pack with an all-inclusive list of standard and optional industry-leading technologies and safety features, including:

    – Ford SYNC® with 911 AssistTM, Vehicle Health Report (VHR), and new Traffic, Directions, and Information services
– Voice-activated Navigation with SIRIUS® Travel LinkTM
– Reverse Camera System
– SOS Post Crash Alert System

A Sport Mode, available on the GT Premium and Shelby GT500, incorporates a unique calibration of the new AdvanceTrac system, letting the driver enjoy a wider range of Mustang”s performance capabilities.

Options Galore
Mustang is America”s best-selling convertible, thanks to features like a three-layer weatherproof power top. Mustang V-6 and GT models are available with convertible tops for an additional $5,000.

For a no-matter-the-weather “open” experience, Mustang also offers a factory-installed glass roof option for $1,995 on the V-6 and GT models.

The fixed glass roof is made of two layers of tinted privacy glass with a layer of transparent vinyl in between, which reduces vehicle cool-down time as well as infrared energy and ultraviolet (UV) rays. The roof, for example, filters 90 percent of the sun”s heat-generating infrared rays and 96 percent of burn-causing UV rays. A thick polyvinyl butyral layer further filters UV rays and helps muffle wind and traffic noise by as much as five decibels. For added privacy and protection, a manually retractable mesh sun shade comes standard.

Mustang also offers a wide selection of personalization options from the factory as warranty-friendly Genuine Ford Accessories, from exterior stripes to interior appearance features, wheel selections, communication and entertainment systems and more.

Plus, Mustang enthusiasts can now add Performance Packs available from Ford Racing, including a Power Upgrade Pack, Handling Pack, or SuperPack ““ all under warranty when installed by a Ford dealer.

Fuel Facts
The 2010 Mustang is jam-packed with unprecedented content, yet it weighs approximately 300 pounds less than the competing Camaro and Challenger. This leaner curb weight gives Mustang a competitive leg up in agility and contributes significantly to Mustang”s unsurpassed 26 mpg.

Mustang”s available engines, including the GT”s beefy 4.6-liter V-8, also are designed to use regular 87-octane fuel, allowing customers to save even more money at the pump, without sacrificing performance. Both Camaro and Challenger recommend premium grade gasoline.

Mustang also makes fill-ups more hassle-free with its standard Easy Fuel™ Capless Fuel Fuller system, a segment exclusive.

The Shelby GT500
For Mustang lovers who prefer the highest performance, the 2010 Shelby GT500 offers a 5.4-liter supercharged four-valve V-8 engine that pumps out 540 horsepower and 510 ft.-lbs. of torque. Thanks in part to a cold-air intake system, lower-restriction exhaust, new engine calibration and revised gearing, the 2010 Shelby GT500 delivers more power while also increasing fuel efficiency. The GT500 improves its fuel economy by 2 mpg on the highway for a rating of 14 mpg in city driving and 22 mpg on the highway. Power is sent to the ground through a short-shift six-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip 3.55 rear axle gear ratio.

New suspension tuning and aerodynamic improvements give the 2010 Shelby GT500 sharper handling, improved body control and better overall vehicle dynamics while still maintaining a good ride and handling balance. Forged and machined 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Goodyear F1 Supercar tires, combined with the revised suspension, gives the car a high level of grip.

New standard features for the 2010 Shelby GT500 include high-end items such as Alcantara® on the heavily bolstered sport seats, steering wheel, shift boot and hand brake; leather stripes stitched into the seats that coordinate with the exterior stripe color; Q-ball shift knob and aluminum interior trim that enhances the Shelby GT500 driving environment.

Both the 2010 Mustang and Shelby GT500 arrive in dealerships this spring.

We have a bone to pick with Ford (but we won’t get into that just yet). The 2010 Ford Mustang, which we saw at the 2008 LA Auto Show, was one of the most significant reveals of 2008 even though the car won’t hit showrooms until next year.

It will be priced below its rivals – the Dodge Challenger and the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. And while the new styling is more evolutionary than revolutionary, the 2010 Ford Mustang will still, like it always does, turn heads wherever you go.

Oh and the bone that we have to pick with Ford is that we weren’t invited to drive the 2010 Ford Mustang – but we’ll try to get that fixed for you.
