Acura is continuing its ongoing efforts to become a Tier 1 luxury brand despite the difficult economic times. According to Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Acura wants to move up the ladder without jeopardizing its “value-for-the-money” image.

“Being a premium luxury brand is not just about product. It’s the way dealers handle customers,” Colliver told Automotive News. ”You’ve got to earn your way into the segment. You don’t necessarily have to have a $90,000 sedan to get there.”

At a recent meeting with dealers, Colliver left open the possibility that the NSX could be revived since “the development is mostly done.” Honda announced late last year that it was canceling plans for the next-generation NSX.

Also in the pipeline is a new crossover for this year that will be slotted between the RDX and MDX.

It was recently reported by AutoExpress that Honda has shelved plans to build the Acura/Honda NSX supercar. Honda made no comment on the report that said Honda pulled the plug on the 600-hp supercar due to the economic slowdown.

Well, Autotelegraaf is now saying that Honda will bring the final NSX concept to the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next month. The report says that the concept will be very close to the final production version which will make its debut at the end of 2009 in Tokyo and 2010 in Europe.

The news comes a couple days after Toyota announced that it will still bring the Lexus LF-A to the market by 2011 despite the current economic situation.

Honda keeps dropping one shocking news after another. After announcing that it is pulling out of Formula One racing, Honda now says that the Nissan GT-R will no longer have a competitor. That’s right the company has pulled the plug on the 600-hp 5.5L V10 NSX supercar due to an economic slowdown and declining sales.

Besides having a running prototype and posting some competitive Nurburgring laps, Honda’s CEO Takeo Fukui said that all development on the NSX will cease.

Honda was expected to show a concept version of the NSX at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show next month. Now all Detroit funding will go towards showing the production Insight Hybrid, FC Sport, FCX Clarity and the CR-Z concept.

While Honda doesn’t seem to be a fan of V8s, a V10 is a whole different story. According to the company’s Executive Vice President Koichi Kondo, the V10 powered NSX is on the way and Honda will do all it can to make it the best sports car in its category.

“This sort of discussion was made between the American Honda people and r&d people, and some people were questioning whether it’s really necessary to have a V-10,” Kondo said in an interview with Automotive News. “But sports is a special category. We said if we’re going to do it, we’re going to go to the extreme.”

Kondo said that Honda is expecting to sell 1,000 units of the NSX in the U.S. annually. The NSX is rumored to carry a price tag of $160,000 when it debuts as a 2011 model year.

Kondo says that while the price tag may be well above the NSX’s $70,000 Nissan GT-R rival, it will also have better performance.

So it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the 2010 Acura NSX (almost a whole month) and seeing as it’s one of the most anticipated arrivals of next year that’s a bit strange. So here it is – a new spy video showing the wonderful sounds of the upcoming 600-hp Nissan GT-R rival.

Last we heard the 2010 Acura NSX will go on sale next year with a price tag of around $160,000. Of course Honda hasn’t confirmed nor rejected those rumors.

Last week we brought you some updated news on the upcoming 2010 Acura NSX. We learned that the upcoming Nissan GT-R and Lexus LF-A rival will produce 600-hp with a peak torque of 443 lb-ft mated to a rear-wheel-drive architecture with a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox. We also learned that the NSX will lighter than the Nissan GT-R – a whole 550 pounds lighter.

But according to latest reports from Japan the 2010 Acura NSX will cost more than twice as much as the Nissan GT-R. According to InsideLine, Acura is expected to price the two-seater at $160,000 putting it in the Aston Martin V8 Vantage category.

All we know is, if the NSX will go past the $160,000 mark and look the way it does in these renderings, it better beat the Nissan GT-R’s and Corvette ZR1′s lap-time at the Nurburgring.

While everyone thinks that Acura is not up-to-par in the luxury or performance game, the upcoming next-generation NSX will change all that for the Honda owned brand. According to AutoExpress , along with the Nissan GT-R and the Lexus LF-A, the 2010 Acura NSX will take on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Maserati GranTurismo and the Jaguar XKR.

So far we’ve heard rumors that the 5.5L V10 powering the next-generation NSX will produce 500-hp. According to a new report the 5.5L V10 is expected to produce 600-hp with a peak torque of 443 lb-ft. It will be mated to a rear-wheel-drive architecture and a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

For everyone that judges a performance car based on Nurburgring lap times, the 2010 Acura NSX prototype has lapped the famous German track at a record time of 7:37.

AutoExpress also says that the next NSX will weigh 1,500kg – 250kg less than the Nissan GT-R . Pricing is expected to be £100,000 ($283,000).

The first interior shot of the 2010 Acura NSX didn’t show us much besides the test drivers arm and a cloth covering the center console. Now spies have once again scooped the next-generation NSX testing at the Nurburgring and this time we get a good look at the flat-bottom Audi style steering wheel and odometer.

The rear-wheel-drive 2010 Acura NSX will be powered by a 5.5 liter V10 producing up to 550-hp. The car is expected to make its debut early next year.
