Even though the 2009 Infiniti G37 faces strong competition from three new-updated vehicles, the sports sedan still came out on top in Consumer Reports’ tests. The 2009 G37 scored “Excellent” in the overall road test score, CR’s highest-rated vehicle in this category.

Consumer Reports’ said that it tested three other vehicles including the redesign Acura TSX, Audi A4 and the Volkswagen CC. All of the Infiniti G37 “rivals” scored an overall test score of “Very Good.”

“The Infiniti G37 continues its reign as top in the class,” said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports’ Auto Test Center. “The drivetrain is still the highlight of the car, delivering very strong performance while getting better fuel economy than the previous generation. The G37 is very quick and handling is agile and fun.”

The 2009 Infiniti G37 gets a more powerful 328-hp 3.7L V6 mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission in place of the 5-speed automatic. It also gets best overall fuel-economy with 21 mpg on premium fuel.

Hyundai wasn’t at all shy in admitting that it is targeting the Infiniti G Coupes with its new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Therefore, it’s only right that many auto publications will be putting the two coupes face-to-face during their test-drive of the new Korean offering.

Edmunds compared the 2009 Infiniti G37 coupe to the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 in its recent comparison test. Power for the 2009 Infiniti G37 Coupe comes from a 3.7L V6 that produces 330-hp with a peak torque of 270 lb-ft. That allows for a 0 to 60 mph run in 5.7 seconds. The 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is powered by a 3.8L V6 making 306-hp and a maximum torque of 310 lb-ft. However, the Genesis Coupe does 0 to 60 mph much slower than the Infiniti G37 with a time of 6.4 seconds.

Pricing for the 2009 Infiniti G37 Coupe starts at $35,900 while the 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 starts at $10,900 less with an MSRP of $25,000. Adding the Track Package brings the pricing up to $29,500 giving your Genesis Coupe a stiffer suspension, a Torsen limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes and 19-inch wheels.

While we’ll leave it up to you to decide which is better – here is Edmunds conclusion: “It’s the undeniable value equation that tips this test in the favor of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3.8. You simply get more car for your dollar with the Genesis coupe. Sure, it’s not as much car as the 2009 Infiniti G37, but at two-thirds the cost, it doesn’t have to be.”

The 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible will make its public debut at the 2008 LA Auto Show in about 2 and a half weeks. Following that it will go on sale in mid-2009. However for those wishing to pay a little extra for some exclusiveness can order theirs on Nov. 10.

Nissan has teamed up with Bloomingdale’s to offer the 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible Premier Edition through the company’s annual holiday catalog. Besides the 330-hp 3.7L V6, the Premier Edition G37 Convertible gets a dark gray Platinum Graphite exterior, exclusive Monaco Red leather-trimmed interior with hand-crafted, red-stained genuine maple wood trim, and a special grille and 19-inch aluminum wheels.

Interested buyers can order via phone on Nov 10. at 12:00pm CST. But you better have fast fingers since there will only be 200 Premier Edition models made.

Infiniti has announced pricing for the new 2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan and the new 2009 Infiniti G37X Coupe AWD. Both models are powered by a 3.7L V6 with VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) and feature a new 7-speed automatic transmission with Drive Sport (DS) mode and Adaptive Shift Control (ASC).

The 328-hp 2009 G37 Sedan is available in four models including G37, G37 Journey, G37S Sport 6MT and G37x AWD. Pricing starts at $33,250 and tops out at $34,250 for the G37 Sport with a 6-speed manual. Buyers can opt for a Technology Package for $1,100. The Premium Package for the RWD G37 goes for $2,500 – the AWD Premium Package costs $2,300. A Sports Package is also available for $2,100 for the RWD model and $1,100 for the AWD.

The 330-hp 2009 G37 Coupe is also available in four models with the G37X now offering all-wheel-drive. Pricing for the G37 Coupe itself starts at $35,900, with the new G37x Coupe AWD priced at $38,700.

Both models will go on sale at Infiniti dealerships on November 5th.
