Remember the first unit of the 2010 Audi R8 V10 and the Ferrari California that were being auctioned at the Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance in Florida? Wonder how much each unit went for?

Host, Howie Mandell helped auction of the first unit of the 2010 Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI for a total of $500,000. That is well above the car’s sticker price of $180,000 (we’re not sure if that is official price set by Audi for the US-spec model). The Ferrari California, on the other hand, didn’t bring in much selling for total of $350,000, which is $125,000 over its $225,000 sticker price.

Together both cars helped raise more than $1 million for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County.

While the 2010 Audi R8 5.2 V10 FSI isn’t confirmed to come to the stateside, the first unit of the car will be auctioned off at the Boca Raton Concours d’ Elegance. The new V10 powered R8 will be joined by the first unit of the Ferrari California (for the U.S. at least).

Despite the current economic situation, both cars are expected to draw a significant bid. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. Deal Or No Deal and Howie Do It star Howie Mandell will be on hand to auction off the two cars and we expect him to say “deal or no deal” at the end of the auction.

Don’t get too excited – this is not a video of Michael Schumacher taking the Ferrari California around the Nordschleife. This short clip shows Ferrari’s main man showing off the new California at Ferrari Racing Days at the Nurburgring.

Michael Schumacher attended to present the Ferrari California to the audience on a rainy day and then took it around a short circuit. Schumacher played a very hands-on roll in the development of the new California working out the technical details while testing it on the track and the roads.

What financial crisis? Ferrari is expecting record sales in 2008 and at its Ferrari California debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show today, the Italian automaker said it has sold out of the convertible until 2011. Ferrari has sold the entire 2009 and 2010 production of the $246,724 hard-top California.

According to Ferrari’s boss Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, 60 percent of buyers who have ordered the car have never bought a Ferrari. Montezemolo said that Ferrari will not be increasing production to meet demand and will continue with the 2,800 units planned for 2009 and the 3,000 planned for 2010.

The new 2009 Ferrari California won’t make its world debut until the 2008 Paris Motor Show but it was unveiled to a lucky few last week on Thursday. Ferrari held a star-studded event in Maranello and in Santa Monica, California ahead of the car’s scheduled launch on Oct. 2nd.

The Santa Monica event also featured a charity auction where the first Ferrari California was sold for $520,000. That’s a whole lot of money and double what the expected retail price is going to be for the new Ferrari.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was on hand to except the charity on behalf of After Schools All Stars, a charity which helps under-privileged school children.

Ferrari is holding the world premiere of the new Ferrari California today right before it shows it at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. The premiere will take place in Maranello and will be shown live online at www.ferraricalifornia.com at 22:00 Italian time.

The event is being held live at Ferrari’s new assembly line and celebrities like Michael Schumacher will be attending and helping Ferrari unveil the California. Ferrari will also show its latest Italian stallion in California at Santa Monica Airport, just outside LA.

The 2009 Ferrari California is ready to make its public debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show this October. We’ll get our first stateside look at the 2008 LA Auto Show in November. But before the Ferrari California hits markets next year, Ferrari will add some options.

According to EVO magazine, the 10 percent of Ferrari customers still want a manual transmission – so of course, Ferrari will offer its customers what they want. Before the California goes on sale next year, Ferrari will add a manual option along with a new HGTC handling package that is offered on the 612 Scaglietti. Th HGTC handling package will give the 460-hp Ferrari California lightweight wheels and upgraded suspension.

Hmm, we’re wondering what a Ferrari California Scuderia will look like.

We keep seeing countless pictures of the Ferrari California from all other countries other than California. Now the 2009 Ferrari California has finally made its way to the west coast in a photo shoot that took place in San Fransisco.

While these aren’t official pictures, these blurry spy shots taken by a Flickr user suggest that we can expect a U.S. launch for Ferrari’s latest Italian stallion very soon.

While Ferrari prepares for the October 2nd world premiere of the Ferrari California , Michael Schumacher is tuning the new Italian stallion – testing it out on the track and road. Ferrari says that Schumacher has been deeply involved with the development of the Ferrari California working with the team of engineers to optimize the car’s performance.

The Ferrari California is powered by a 4.3L V8 engine producing 460-hp that is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Schumacher has taken the California from 0-62mph in under 4 seconds.

Schumacher completes development testing on Ferrari California :

Maranello 23rd July 2008 – Michael Schumacher is currently completing the track and road development stages of the Ferrari California, the new 8-cylinder model due to be officially unveiled at the Paris International Motor Show on October 2nd this year.

The seven times Formula 1 world champion has been involved in the development of the latest Prancing Horse road car since its inception and has worked with Ferrari’s team of engineers, technicians and test-drivers on honing the car in general, but more specifically on optimising its performance parameters.

“I have to say that, as with the 430 Scuderia, participating in the project since the very beginning has been really fascinating and great fun,” commented Schumacher at the end of a test session at the Fiorano circuit. “Although the cars are very different, they both offer absolutely unique driving pleasure because of the inherently sporty character of all of the cars that come out of Maranello. The 430 Scuderia is, of course, a more extreme model with a focus on absolutely cutting-edge performance. However, although the Ferrari California is very much a Grand Tourer in terms of its usability and high level of interior comfort, it is still surprisingly sporty and fun to drive under any kind of conditions.”

Schumacher also recently addressed the Ferrari dealer convention in Maranello and explained the differences between the two 8-cylinders: “They were designed to meet different requirements: the 430 Scuderia is aimed at drivers who want the very essence of a Ferrari and will get it out on the track as often as they can. The Ferrari California, on the other hand, is designed for everyday use and for weekends away whilst still guaranteeing all of the emotional impact that only an authentic Ferrari can deliver.”

Michael Schumacher’s contribution to the development of the Ferrari California has resulted in a car that delivers extraordinary performance: it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds, delivering superb driving pleasure whilst still being exceptionally comfortable and versatile.

We have no idea when or if Ferrari will release new images of the 2009 Ferrari California , however the press that’s seen the car in person is filling that spot with their massive galleries of the new Italian stallion. We’re not going to bother babbling more on these pictures since you’ve probably already hit the jump and are drooling over your keyboard.

Alfa Romeo built only 500 units of the ultra-exclusive 8C Competizione coupe. Then it gave into to demand and decided to build 500 units of the 8C Spider, which are currently under construction and have yet to be delivered. Giving in some more Alfa Romeo is considering a successor to the beautiful 8C Competizione and if Alfa can workout a ‘difficult’ deal with Maranello, it could be based on the new Ferrari California.

Alfa Romeo bosses know that the successor to the 8C Competizione has to be something spectacular since the car influences other cars in its lineup. The original was Maserati engine and running gear based, but Alfa Romeo’s global marketing director said that an ideal replacement would be based on the new Ferrari California.

“It would be great if Ferrari let us do it,” Cravero said, “but they are very hard to convince.”

Alfa is also said to be considering an even more exclusive version of the 8C that will be lighter and more powerful that the current 450 horsepower model.
