Could the A8GCS be the basis for a new Maserati baby coupe?

Revealed at the 2008 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the new A8 GCS Berlinetta is a design study by the newly relauched Carrozerria Touring Superleggera. But could this new small coupe design study become a reality for the Maserati lineup?

According to Carrozerriz Touring Superleggera, the A8 GCS Berlinetta is just an idea as of right now. However, Maserati is considering adding a small new coupe priced between £50,000 and £60,000 to take on the Porsche 911, Mercedes CLK, Nissan GT-R and the BMW M3.

Roberoto Ronchi, the big boss at Maserati, says that the Italian company needs a third model if it wishes to continue making profit. No power details have been released as of yet but we wouldn’t mind the 4.2 liter V8 delivering 405-hp from the GranTursimo.

Detroit Auto Show: Maserati’s Collezione Cento lets you surf the Web

Maserati Collezione Cento

We’re still hanging out in Detroit for a bit so we’re going to bring you some other hot cars we saw along the way. We were pretty impressed with Maserati’s new Quattroporte “Collezione Cento.” Maserati will only be producing 100 units of this ultimate luxury and technology car with a brand new ivory color and 20-inch wheels. But it isn’t the good looks that attracted everyone to this car.

The Maserati Quattroporte “Collezione Cento” comes with a back seat Maserati Multimedia Entertainment system that contains AUX-IN socket, iPod docking station, SIM card port and a USB port so that passengers can view photographs, videos or listen to MP3/WMA tracks on other external devices. Everyone these days offers that you say?

Well, the Collezione Cento also has two 10.4 inch touch screen displays in the headrests along with a built-in keypad in the armrest that allows for easy Internet browsing and email access. The touch screens also have a CD/DVD playe built into them. We’d rather be sitting the back seat rather than driving this Maserati.

Speed and style are still the operative words for sports cars, but they’re getting plusher and more luxurious, thanks in part to an aging consumer base.

Sales of sports cars in 2007 show that the rich are getting richer, and as the average age of sports-car buyers steadily creeps up, more models with added luxury and amenities are rolling into showrooms.

Click through for the list of ForbesAutos Top 13 Hottest Sports Cars of 2008. We’re not going to lie, we’re a bit disappointed to not see the BMW M3 Coupe and Sedan, Mercedes C 63 AMG and the Lexus IS-F on the list.
