Currently, the beast in Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance stable is the 670-hp 2009 SL 65 AMG Black Series – and that’s only because McLaren and Mercedes-Benz have ended their SLR relationship. But come 2010, there will be a new king of the ring – the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

Power comes from a 6.2L V8 making 563-hp with a peak torque of 479 lb-ft. The engine is mated to a E-SELECT system that controls the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission on the drive-by-wire principle. With the help of a new “Race Start” launch control, the SLS AMG can go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 196 mph. 

While Mercedes-Benz is keeping a tight cover on the exterior of the 3,571 pound SLS AMG, we do know that the successor to the 300SL will feature the popular gullwing-style doors. The Stuttgart automaker has released only a couple of images of the prototype undergoing testing which you can check out after the jump.

As for the inside, Mercedes-Benz has been kind enough to drop a couple of official shots of the completed interior. Mercedes-Benz says that the center console is inspired by “jet’s operating console and the four striking air vents reminiscent of aircraft engines.” The SLS AMG will feature an AMG Performance leather steering wheel in 3-spoke design with a flattened lower section and paddle-shifters. The central feature of the cockpit is the multimedia system COMAND APS with its 7-inch screen. Between rpm gauge and the speedometer is a 4.5-inch display that provides information such as range, fuel consumption, trip mileage, driving time and average speed. It also shows different drive modes of the SPEEDSHIFT double-clutch transmission including “C” (Controlled Efficiency), “S” (Sport), “S+” (Sport plus) or “M” (Manual).

Standard features on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG include, theft system, AMG entry sills painted the vehicle color, floor mats with AMG logo, electric parking brake, KEYLESS-GO, designo stitched leather upholstery, PARKTRONIC, rain sensor, heated seats, cruise control with SPEEDTRONIC and THERMOTRONIC. Optional extras include a Bang&Olufsen sound system, designo Exclusive leather, a DVD changer, the Media Interface and the Interior Carbon package.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG will make its market launch in spring 2010.

The 2010 Ford Mustang made its world debut at the 2008 LA Auto Show. The new 2010 Mustang gets a leaner, meaner and more muscular look with a new refined look inside-out. The 2010 Mustang also gets improved handling characteristics, more power, more options and more standard safety and technology features – all which give it strong characteristics to compete with the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger.

Ford says that the sheet metal for the new Mustang is all new except for the fast-back roofline. It gets a redesigned front-end with new headlamps, fenders, a new grille and a new powerdome hood, giving it a more muscular stance. It also gets a new rear fascia with angled rear corners, a sculptured decklid and a more sleek rear pony badge. The new 2010 Ford Mustang comes with wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches. On the inside, the 2010 Mustang welcomes you with a brand new one-piece instrument panel finished in aluminum trims. The center stack adds the Ford SYNC technology to the Mustang lineup along with an electronic display of the new dual-climate control system. The inside also features the MyColor options allowing the owner to customize the ambient and instrument lighting with a choice of 125 colors.

The base 2010 Ford Mustang is available with same 4.0L V6 engine making 210-hp for $20,996 while the convertible starts at $25,995. The 315-hp 4.6L V8 Mustang GT starts at $27,995 while the Mustang GT convertible carries a price tag of $32,995. The 2010 Shelby GT500 now carries a 5.4L V8 producing 540-hp with prices starting at $46,325. The 2010 Shelby GT500 convertible starts at $51,225.

The Fisker Karma Concept made its original debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show on January 14th, 2008. A year later, Fisker Automotive revealed the production version of its first plug-in hybrid vehicle at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Deliveries of the first Karmas are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2009 through the Fisker Automotive Retail network.

Power for the 2010 Fisker Karma Hybrid sedan comes from a plug-in hybrid powertrain developed by Quantum Technologies. Known as the Q-DRIVE, the system consists of a two 201-hp electric motors that are powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. That allows the 2010 Karma to travel up to 50 miles without the use of any gasoline. A generator attached to a 260-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec direct injection gasoline engine by General Motors provides an extended range of up to 300 miles in Sport Mode. A fully charged Karma can achieve more than 100 miles per gallon. The 2010 Karma, which can produce up to 956 lb-ft of torque, goes from 0 to 60 in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 125 mph.

The Karma is all about sustainability – even on the inside. Buyers can choose from three trim levels including: EcoBase, EcoSport and EcoChic. The EcoSpot series incorporates a hand-wrapped premium leather using 100 percent sustainable manufacturing. The most advanced sustainable material series, EcoChic, is based on an animal-free approach with leather being replaced by 100 percent Bamboo Viscose. Interior features include a 10.2-inch touch sensitive screen controlling HVAC, audio and other vehicle systems. The LCD gauges behind the steering wheels display critical information like battery charge and vehicle speed.

Production of the Karma will be taken care of by Valmet Automotive of Finland. Fisker Automotive says that the first 99 examples will match the exterior and interior of the Karma prototype seen at the 2008 NAIAS. Each unit will feature a personalized plaque with a serial number and signature from Henrik Fisker.

Pricing for the 2010 Hybrid Karma sedan starts at $87,900 ($80,400 after US government tax credits). Fisker Automotive plans on producing 15,000 units of the Karma annually in its first full-year of production.

2010 Fisker Karma:

One of the most spied, anticipated, and quite interesting looking models from Porsche is finally here. Pictures and a few details of the upcoming four-door 2010 Porsche Panamera were officially revealed to public on November 22, 2008. Originally scheduled to make its debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche has announced that it will hold the world debut of the Panamera at the 2009 Shanghai Motor Show in April of 2009 instead.

The Porsche Panamera will be available for purchase in late summer of next year and besides the base model, it will be offered in three other variants including Panamera Turbo, Panamera 4S and Panamera Hybrid. While specific details on the engine offerings have yet to be revealed by Porsche, the Stuttgart based company says that the Panamera lineup will consist of 6 and 8 cylinder units with output ranging from 300-hp to 500-hp. All Panamera models will be offered with a 6-speed manual or the new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission known as PDK (Porsche-Doppelkupplung). Besides rear-wheel-drive, the 2010 Porsche Panamera will be available with all-wheel-drive.

Pricing for the 2010 Porsche Panamera will start at $89,800 for the 400-hp Panamera S while the all-wheel-drive  Panamera 4 S starts at $93,800. The range-topping 500-hp Panamera Turbo starts at $132,600.

Porsche will build the new Panamera at its Leipzig plant and is targeting annual sales of 20,000 units. It has been rumored that Porsche is considering a diesel and convertible version of the Panamera – no firm word from Stuttgart as of yet.

2010 Porsche Panamera:

The new 2009 Nissan 370Z is faster, lighter, more powerful and every bit better than its predecessor – the Nissan 350Z. Unveiled at the 2008 LA Auto Show, the 2009 Nissan 370Z is the first full redesign of the Nissan ‘Z’ lineup since its introduction in 2003.

Power for the new 370Z will come from a 3.7L VQ37VHR engine with VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) that makes 332-hp with a maximum torque of 270 lb-ft. Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox that will allow for a 0 to 60 mph time in the low 5 second range and a top speed that is electronically limited to 155 mph. The Nissan 370Z is also available with a 7-speed automatic with paddle shifters as an option. Estimated fuel-economy comes in at 18/26 mpg (city/highway).

The new 2009 Nissan 370Z will hit North American dealerships in January 2009 with prices starting at $29,930. It will be offered in two trim-levels including 370Z and 370Z Touring which adds heated leather-seats, HomeLink Universal Transceiver, Bluetooth, 8-speaker Bose audio system, XM Satellite Radio, cargo cover and aluminum pedals. Nissan will offer two packages including a Sport Package and the Navigation Package. Sport Package adds 19-inch RAYS forged wheels and Bridgestone Potenza tires, aerodynamic front and rear spoiler, larger Nissan Sport Brakes, SynchroRev Match and Viscous Limited Slip Differential. The Navigation Package adds a hard drive-based navigation system, 9.3GB Music Box hard drive and iPod connectivity.

2009 Nissan 370Z:

Hyundai USA’s vice president John Krafcik describes it as a car that delivers a “driving experience that challenges cars like the Infiniti G37, at prices more like the Mitsubishi Eclipse.” The rear-wheel-drive 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has already hit the markets in Korea (as of Oct. 13, 2008) and will arrive in U.S. showroom in spring 2009.

The 2010 Genesis Coupe will be available in seven different configurations. The 2.0L entry-level version will be available in four trim levels including 2.0T, 2.0T Premium, 2.0T R-Spec and 2.0T Track. Power will come from an intercooled 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 210-hp on regular fuel and 220-hp on premium. All will be mated with 6-speed manual as standard with an optional 5-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle-shift Shiftronic controls. The 2.0T R-Spec and 2.0T Track will be available later after launch and will only come with a 6-speed manual transmission. Both models will also get a Brembo braking system with 19-inch Euroflange gunmetal finish alloy wheels. Fuel-economy for all 2.0T models is estimated at 30 mpg highway.

Moving up a notch, the 3.8L models will be available in three different trim levels including base, Grand Touring and Track. All are powered by a DOHC V6 engine that produces 306-hp on regular and 310-hp on premium with a maximum torque of 266 lb-ft. The base and Grand Touring models will be available with a 6-speed manual as standard and a 6-speed automatic with steering wheel paddle-shifters available as an option. Again, the 3.8 Track model will only get a 6-speed manual with a Brembo braking system in 19-inch gunmetal finish alloy wheels.

Technological futures of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis include Smart Key with push-button start, one-touch power windows, heated seats, a backup warning system, 360-watt AM/FM/XM/CD-changer Infinity premium audio system, USB/iPod/Aux jack connectivity, Navigation system (mid-year availability) and integrated Bluetooth technology.

Pricing has for the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Genesis Coupe 2.0T with a 210-hp 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder model starts at $22,000 while the Genesis Coupe 3.8 with a 306-hp 3.8L V6 starts at $25,000.

2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe:

Unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is one of GM’s most anticipated cars as they shift from gas-guzzling SUVs to compact vehicles. Replacing the Chevy Cobalt, the Cruze will go on sale in Europe starting March 2009.  A U.S. launch date was originally set for April 2010 but has now been delayed to 2011 due to a pinch in GM’s cash flow.

Europeans will get their Chevrolet Cruze lineup of 4-cylinder engines ranging from a 112-hp 1.6L, a 140-hp 1.8L and a 150-hp 2.0L turbo diesel. All models will be mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. The U.S. market will get a 100-hp 1.4L 4-cylinder turbo engine. According to GM CEO Rick Wagoner the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze is expected to return a fuel-economy of closer to 40mpg. The Chevrolet Cobalt returns 33mpg highway and the new Cobalt XFE (extra fuel-economy version) returns 37mpg highway.

GM is investing $500 million in the U.S. for the production of the Cruze at its Lordstown, Ohio plant. Pricing details will be announced closer to launch.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze:

We saw the Lamborghini Estoque at the 2008 Paris Motor Show but it may be a while before you see a production version cruising down the most posh streets of the world. While the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide, two cars that the Estoque is aimed at, will arrive by next year, the four-door Lamborghini will take at least another four years.

According to Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini has yet to decide on producing the Estoque but he says it’s definitely expected to be greenlighted for production by next year. Even then, it’ll take Lamborghini at least another four years to develop the car.

Platform sharing with Porsche’s Panamera and Audi’s upcoming A7 are being considered. Under the hood Lamborghini is looking at the 5.2L V10 from the Gallardo LP560-4, a V8 diesel or a V8 gasoline mated to a hybrid system. Winkelmann says that with the Estoque, Lamborghini is thinking about ”torque, drivability, and comfort, not just top-speed.” According to Wolfgang Hatz, head of the Audi’s powertrain development 500-hp V18 TDI from the Audi R8 Concept is also a possibility.

At launch, Winkelmann is estimated only 2,000 to 3,000 units annually with only one powertrain. As demand increases, Lamborghini will add other options.

Honda unveiled the 2010 Insight Hybrid at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show on Jan. 11th. Sales of the 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid will begin in April 2009.

All 2010 Insights carry a 1.3L SOHC i-VTEC engine mated to a CVT transmission. Mated to Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid technology that allows for an EPA rated fuel-economy of 40/43 (city/highway) mpg. Besides that outstanding fuel-economy, the 10-kilowatt electric motor IMA hybrid system, along with a 10.6 gallon fuel-tank, allows for driving range of more than 400 miles.

Honda also introduced its new Ecological Driver Assist System (ECO Assist) that helps drivers get the most fuel-efficiency out of their Insight Hybrid. The driver activated ECON mode optimizes the control of the CVT transmission, engine and other powertrain parts to increase fuel-efficiency. Real-time feedback from the Insight is displayed on the new speedometer display in cool changing background colors.

The 2010 Honda Insight will be available in three different trim levels including LX, EX and EX with Navi. Pricing starts at $20,470 (including $670.00 destination charge and options). Honda is targeting global sales of 200,000 units annually, half of which it expects to come from North America.

Honda Insight Hybrid:

While it may not be as sleek looking as the concept we saw at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, the Chevrolet Volt will still turn heads and will still get you looked at as one of those “environmentally friendly” individuals. Unveiled at GM’s 100th birthday, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt will go into production in late 2010 at GM’s Detroit Hamtramck plant. Pricing and other details will be announced closer to launch.

The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is a front-wheel-drive 5-door plug-in hybrid sedan that GM prefers to call E-REV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle). On a full charge, the Volt’s lithium-ion battery allows for 40 miles on electric power alone. Once the full charge is depleted, the Volt can travel an additional 250-300 miles on its gasoline engine.

The Chevy Volt can be plugged into any standard household 120v or 240v outlet. It requires 8 hours to reach full charge when plugged into a 120v and 3 hours when plugged into a 240v. GM is estimating a cost of 80 cents per day for a full charge allowing 40 miles of driving compared to 12 cents per mile when using gas priced at $3.60.

So what’s the horsepower, top speed and how fast does the Volt go from 0 to 60? GM says that the Volt’s electric drive unit produces 150-hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Top speed comes in at 100mph but 0 to 60 mph figures have yet to be released.

Yes, we know it’s been a long time coming – but we now bring you the Buzz Garage page for the Audi R8 (and don’t worry, with the R8 V10 and the Convertible planned to make appearances within the next two years this page is still ‘considered’ pretty new).

The much-anticipated Audi R8 made its official production model debut at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. Based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform, the R8 shares 15 percent of its parts with the raging bull. Power comes from a 4.2L FSI V8 engine producing 420-hp with a maximum torque of 317 lb-ft. Mated to a 6-speed manual or the 6-speed automatic R-tronic, the Audi R8 goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 187 mph. Pricing starts at $112,500 for the manual and $121,500 for the R-tronic. However Audi has already sold out its 2009 allocation. If you want one, you’ll have to get on the waiting list for at least more than year.

Of course, if you’re willing to cash out more green – more powerful and exclusive Audi R8 models are on the way. Audi unveiled the 2010 R8 5.2 V10 FSI quattro at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The model is powered by a 5.2L FSI V10 making a total of 528-hp allowing for a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph. A convertible version is also expected in late 2009 – power will come from both the 420-hp V8 and a V10.

The Ferrari California is the latest stallion from the Italian automaker and is the first Italian car to get a section in our Buzz Garage. Designed by Pininfarina, the Ferrari California has a mid-front engine layout with both, the body and the chassis, constructed from aluminum to keep the weight down.

Power for the retractable hardtop convertible comes from a 4.3 liter V8 producing 460-hp. Together with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission the Ferrari California goes from 0-62 mph in less than 4 seconds. Fuel-economy for the California is estimated at a combined 18 mpg. Oh another number fact – the retractable roof opens and closes in just 15 seconds.

Sales of the Ferrari California will begin at the end of this is year in Europe followed by the U.S. next year. Pricing and details will be announced closer to launch.

2009 Ferrari California:

As consumers become more interested in compact and fuel-efficient cars we thought we’d add our first small and affordable (expected to be priced under the Focus) car to our Buzz Garage section.

Ford unveiled the Ford Verve Concept at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show as a basis for the fourth-generation Ford Fiesta. Production versions of the Fiesta three-door and five-door hatchback were later seen at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. Built on a global platform, Ford will sell the new Fiesta in Europe later this year followed by North America in late 2009. The Ford Fiesta will first arrive in North America in sedan form based on the Verve Sedan Concept seen at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. Ford has also confirmed that the three-door and five-door hatchback will also be sold in the U.S. alongside the sedan.

European sales of the 2009 Ford Fiesta begin this autumn. For the 2009 model year, Ford will add an ‘Zetec S’ to the European model range that also includes Style, Style Plus, Zetec and Titanium. Engine choices include four 16-valve Duratec petrol engine and two Duratorq TDCi diesel engines. The first three gasoline models include a 1.25 and 1.4L engine ranging from 60-hp to 95-hp. The Zetec S is powered by a 1.6L Duratec Ti-VCT that produces 118-hp with the ability to go from 0-62 in 9.9 seconds. The Duratorq TDCi’s range from a 1.4L engine to a 1.6L. Ford also launched a ECOnetic version of the Fiesta at the 2008 British International Motor Show. The Ford Fiesta ECOnetic is powered by a 1.6 liter Duratorq TDCi engine that produces 89-hp and returns an outstanding fuel-economy of 64mp.

U.S pricing details for the Ford Fiesta will be announced closer to launch in early 2010.

2010 Ford Fiesta:

Camaro fans have been waiting for the return of the badge since the fourth-generation model ended production in 2002. With the help of South Korean designer Sangyup Lee, GM surprised us all with the Chevrolet Camaro Concept at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. However, it has been more than 2 years and we’re still waiting on the production model. Well – keep waiting wait no more. GM finally revealed the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro on July 21, 2008.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will enter production in February 2009 and will be available in dealerships shortly after in three trim-levels: LS, LT and SS. The LS and LT are powered by a 3.6 liter direct-injected V6 giving it 300-hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Both models are mated to a 6-speed manual with a 6-speed automatic as an option. Both V6 models return a fuel-economy of 26mpg with a 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS carries a 6.2 liter LS3 V8 that produces 422-hp and 408 lb-ft of torque when mated to a 6-speed manual and 400-hp and 395 lb-ft of torque when mated to a 6-speed automatic. 0-60 comes in 4.6 seconds.

The V6 powered 2010 Chevrolet Camaro starts at $22,995 while the V8 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS starts at $30,995. You can head over to Chevy.com/Camaro to place and early order.

Both LS and LT get a 4-wheel disc ABS as standard and the SS gets 4-piston Brembo calipers. The LT and SS also come with an RS appearance package as an option which give you HID headlamps with integrated halo rings, spoiler, specific tail lamps and 20-inch wheels.

The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible is confirmed for production in early 2011.

BMW’s third ‘X’ SUV, or SAC (Sports Activity Coupe) in BMW terms, has finally broken cover following a concept version that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. BMW will show the production model of the X6 at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 13th.

The BMW X6 is expected to make its market debut in the second quarter of 2008 and will initially be available in two variants including the xDrive35i and the xDrive50i. The BMW X6 xDrive35i will be powered by a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The xDrive50i will be powered by a 4.4L V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Both models come with twin-turbo and direct injection. 0-60 for the xDrive50i comes in at 5.3 seconds.

Two diesel variants are also planned, the xDrive30d and xDrive 35d. Power will come from a 3.0L turbodiesel engine with outputs beings 235 horsepower for the xDrive30d and 286 horsepower for the xDrive 35d.

The new BMW X6 xDrive35i will be the first to arrive in U.s. showrooms in April with prices starting at $53,275. The xDrive50i will arrive later this summer priced at $63,775.

The BMW X6 M made its debut at the 2009 New York Auto Show. It is powered by a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 producing 555-hp with a maximum torque of 500 lb-ft. Prices start at $88,900.

GM will debut one of the most anticipated cars of the year at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is said to be ‘an American supercar that brings the technology and engineering refinement of carbon-fiber, ceramics and electronics together in a distinctive design.’

The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be powered by the new LS9 supercharged 6.2L V8 engine officially produces 638-hp and 604 lb-ft of torque. The new Corvette ZR1 was built on the same aluminum-intensive chassis as the Corvette Z06 which features similar independent SLA front and rear suspensions, with aluminum upper and lower control arms. The ZR1, however, gets a new suspension tuning, which was optimized for the car’s steamroller-wide front and rear tires.

The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will only be available with two options including chrome wheels and a “luxury” package and hits dealerships this summer with prices starting at $103,300 including $850 destination charges.

Chrysler showed off a new Dodge Challenger Concept at the 2006 North American International Auto Show based on the famous 1970’s Dodge Challenger. After a positive response, a production version of the Challenger SRT8 was unveiled at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. The car will arrive in dealerships in late April carrying a price tag of $37,995 plus a gas guzzler tax of $2,100. The 2008 model year will be offered in three color including HEMI Orange, Brilliant Black and Bright silver. There will be no other models for 2008.

Power comes from a 6.1 liter HEMI V8 engine that produces 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. 0–60 mph comes in at the low 5-second range while 0–100–0 mph takes less than 17 seconds.

The whole production run of 6,400 cars is sold out.

In the spring of 2008, BMW will be launching its next legend in the U.S. with the BMW 1-Series Coupe. Available in two versions, the 1-Series Coupe will come in two versions including the 128i and the 135i, both which share engines with the 328i and the 335i.

The 128i will be powered by a 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine producing 230 horsepower. The 135i will be powered by BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and a peak torque of 300 lb-ft. That gives the 135i the ability to do 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds with a top speed of 155mph.

When the 1-Series Coupe arrives on U.S. soil it will carry a price tag of $29,375 for the base 128i and $35,675 for the 135i. BMW has also officially announced the BMW 1-Series Convertible which will also join the coupe in spring of 2008. The 1-Series Convertible will be powered by the same engine variants. Pricing will be announced closer to launch date.

Update: BMW has announced pricing on the 2008 BMW 1-Series Convertible for the U.S. Pricing for the 128i Convertible will start at $33,875 and $39,875 for the 135i Convertible.
