The big shots at Bentley are also considering using a high-performance diesel for the next-generation Arnage working together with sister company Audi. Word is that the V12 TDI seen in recent Audi R8 concept could find its way into the Bentley lineup.

Review: 2008 Bentley Continental GT Speed - One Bodacious Brit

Bentley cracks the 200 mph mark with the Continental GT Speed.

by Lawrence Ulrich
ForbesAutos.com

The Bentley Continental GT changed the landscape of modern ultra-luxury cars — and not just with its swoopy good looks.

The Bentley arrived as a 2004 model for $155,000: six figures and then some, yet barely half the price of traditional British royals from Bentley or former partner turned rival Rolls-Royce. By borrowing the aluminum chassis, all-wheel-drive system, and engine components from Audi/Volkswagen (which took control of Bentley in 1998), the automaker held costs in check without sacrificing style, luxury, or performance. In fact, the Bentley Continental GT was the fastest and most powerful Bentley in history, and more technically advanced than the far pricier and more conservative Arnage.

Bentley outlines its ‘green’ strategy at Geneva

The move will Bentley the first brand in its segment to offer renewable-fuel vehicles throughout its range while maintaining or improving performance.

Paefgen outlined a three-stage environmental strategy based on: improved efficiency, which would cut fleet emissions by at least 15 percent by 2012; a new powertrain in development that will deliver 40 percent improved fuel-economy; and renewable fuel including flex-fuel engines throughout the lineup by 2012.

“This is a major step in the history of Bentley, reflecting the increasing expectation from our customers around the world for performance motoring with fuel efficient engines,” said Paefgen. “We will set a benchmark in our segment of the industry by making every engine capable of running on renewable fuels, reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency throughout our fleet.”

Top 10 Hottest Coupes of 2008

Top 10 Hottest Coupes of 2008

More than 26,000 Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans were sold in the U.S. last year, according to CNW Marketing Research in Bandon, Ore., but only 3,672 people bought its striking two-door equivalent, the CL-Class.

Don’t get the wrong idea — the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is not a bad car. It’s just less convenient for drivers who sometimes need to take along more than one passenger.
