Buick shows Invicta concept in China

Buick has revived the Invicta badge, a name it hasn’t used since 1959, for its latest concept that it showed at Auto China 2008. Buick describes the Invicta Concept as a ‘four-door midsize sedan with a coupe-like roofline’ that hints at the direction for a new vehicle for U.S. and China.

The Buick Invicta takes major inspiration from the 2004 Velite convertible and 2007 Riviera coupe concept. Taking hints from the Velite, designers added the vertical waterfall grille to the front fascia of the Invicta concept. Like the Riviera, the Invicta features short overhangs with wheels pushed out to the corners.

Power for the Invicta comes from Buick’s first direct-injection turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 250-hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Rolls-Royce gets world's most expensive hood ornament at $200kSo now that you’ve cashed out anywhere from $340,000 - $403,000 on your new Rolls-Royce Phantom or let’s say $407,000 for a new Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, you want to take it a step further and differntiate yourself from your tea-sipping, golf playing friends. Well how about the ‘Spirit of Ecstacy,’ the mascot that sits on the front of ever Rolls-Royce, being decked out in jewels.

We don’t know how we missed it but a Manhattan based jewler, Kemanjian, was at this year’s New York Auto Show, displaying his latest creation; a one-of-a-kind diamond studded Rolls-Royce mascot that he designed exclusively for Manhattan Motorcars.

“What we did was to add 150 carats of D color VVS1 quality diamonds and some fancy intense yellow diamonds on the wings,” said Kemanjian.

Audi is finally set to unveil the Q5 SUV at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show on April 18th. Why Beijing? Well, Audi see’s the China as a key growth market and could possibly build the compact off-roader in China as well as Germany due to strong demand for SUVs among Chinese buyers.

Ferrari lets us know the story behind the New York Auto Show display

We’re guessing you were just as surprised as we were after seeing the ‘Ferrari display’ at the 2008 New York Auto Show; apparently so was Ferrari. Ferrari of North America dropped us an e-mail today explaining what the lonely F430 was doing at the show and how it had no connection to the Italian stallion.

For those of you not familiar with the issue at hand, Ferrari was nowhere to be found at the 2008 New York Auto Show. However, right in the middle of Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Bentley, there sat a black F430 against a black background with no Ferrari signage in sight.

Check out Ferrari’s e-mail after the jump.

BMW’s flagship GT model could get V10 twin-turbo producing 625-hp

BMW CS Concept

After making its rounds at all other major auto shows, the BMW CS Concept has finally made its way to North America and is being displayed at the 2008 New York Auto Show this week. BMW has already confirmed that the CS Concept is a design study outlining the company’s new flagship Gran Turismo model. The car will fit above the 7-Series when it hits markets in 2011, and will compete with other four-door coupes including the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide, Audi A7 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS

Gerhard Richter, a member of the management team of the BMW M GmbH, will be assigned project leader on the upcoming Gran Turismo. Of course this means that the Gran Turismo will have massive M-influence from the get go.

Powertrain details are still sketchy. Previous reports say that engine choices will range from a V8 all the way up to a V12. A new report from AutoZeitung says that the new BMW Gran Turismo will get a new V10 twin-turbo charged, direct fuel injection engine that is capable of producing up to 625-hp with a peak torque and a top-speed of 248mph. The report also says an entry level V8 twin-turbo will also be offered producing 450-hp.

Aston Martin DBS at the 2008 New York Auto Show

We’re still emptying out our camera of pics from the 2008 New York Auto Show and came across these of the Aston Martin DBS. It’s always nice to see live pictures of the DBS but we wish Aston had something special to show us, like the Aston Martin DBS Convertible confirmed to enter production next year. Oh well maybe next auto show season.

In the mean time check out these hot pictures of the black Aston Martin DBS.

Refresher: The Aston Martin DBS is powered by a 6.0 liter V12 engine that produces a total of 510 horsepower and 420 lb-ft. of torque. That gives the car the ability to do 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 191mph.
