According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Jaguar has announced a recall of 6,085 2010 XK and 2010 XF models over potential long-term problems with the power-steering system.

The recall is being conducted due to the fact that power-assist steering pipes were not assembled with the correct amount of corrosion protection. That means over time, corrosion may lead to pin-holding of the pipe, which could allow fluids from the power-steering to leak and cause loss of power-assisted steering. That would in turn result in difficulty to maneuver and an accident. The fluid from the power-steering leak could also ignite, causing a fire.

To fix the issue Jaguar will replace the power-steering fluid pipes with ones that meet corrosion specifications. For more info owners can call Jaguar at 800-452-4827 or NHTSA’s hotline at 888-327-4236.

According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, General Motors is recalling 44,117 units of the 2009 – 2010 Cadillac CTS for a loose joint condition that could cause the rear-wheel to become unstable. GM said it has no reports of any injuries or fatalities related to the issue.

The Detroit automaker has been studying the issue since May when it received four complaints. Most consumers complained of metal clanging sound coming from the rear of CTS.

GM said that it will start notifying customers to bring in their CTS to Cadillac dealers. Once inspection is completed dealers will clean the rear suspension toe link, replace the jam nuts and replace the rear toe link if needed.

The sedan will be shipped out as part of a fleet order, according to Ford spokeswoman Marcey Evans said.

Production of the last Mercury was delayed due to snowstorms that pushed back parts shipments to the plant.

Either way, Honda has announced that it is recalling approximately 10,800 model year 2010 to 2011 Accord and 2011 model year Pilot SUVs to prevent a potential front suspension failure.

“A potential problem with the machinery used to tighten the spindle nuts on the front axles of both vehicles, as well as the damper attachment bracket bolts for the Pilot, may cause the front suspension of a small number of these vehicles to fail.” Honda said in a statement. “A flaw in the software for the equipment used for this assembly process was identified at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC (HMA). This concern is isolated to vehicles produced at HMA.”

Honda will start notifying owners of the vehicles today and will replace the necessary parts to make you feel safe again. Honda owners can go to www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009.

General Motors announced today that it is recalling 14,245 Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne models with V8 engines from the 2010 and 2011 model years. The recall is being conducted because the vehicles can have a starter or alternator cable that comes in contact with the power steering return line.

“Such contact could cause the cable to wear through the power steering line causing a power steering fluid leak and a loss of power steering,” GM said in a statement. “Contact also may wear away the cable protective wrap, conduit and wire insulation, so there is metal-to-metal contact, which could result in battery drain. If the exposed battery cable separates from the power-steering line, there could be enough sparks for a hole to be melted in the line. If the power steering fluid contacts hot metal parts of the engine, there could be a fire.”

To fix the issue, dealers will inspect harness routing and correct as needed to eliminate contact with the power steering line. GM said that the recall has caused four fires but no injuries. The Detroit automaker will hold unsold models of these cars on dealer lots until they are repaired.

Letters to customers will be mailed Nov. 19.

Besides the bunch of Honda CR-Z’s on display at the 2010 SEMA Show this week in Las Vegas (we’ll bring you more later on today), Honda is also displaying a demonstration concept of the Honda Accord Crosstour.

There’s not much to say about the Accord Crosstour HFP Concept, but you have to admit, with a little bit of change the debatable shape of the Accord Crosstour can be put to rest.

The Honda Accord Crosstour HFP Concept features 19-inch HFP wheels, a full HFP body kit and front grille, a prototype lowered HFP sport suspension, color-matched door handles and special black-out door sash trim.

Personally, we enjoyed the Crosstour when we test-drove it back in July.

Press Release:

PRIUS GENERATION “X”
Special edition model celebrates Toyota hybrid”s first 10 years

KEY POINTS

Toyota marks 10 years of Prius in the UK with Prius 10th Anniversary special edition model

Special features include body kit, 17-inch multi-spoke alloys, rear privacy glass and embossed black leather upholstery

Production limited to 1,000 examples

Available to order now, price £26,150*

Your eyes don”t deceive you: Prius has turned street-sharp with front, rear and side skirts, 17-inch smoked-finish alloys and dark-tinted privacy glass. The new look belongs to a special edition model that celebrates the world-beating hybrid”s first 10 years in the UK.

And don”t assume that dressing up Prius for this landmark occasion compromises its peerless environmental performance. The new Prius 10th Anniversary is every bit as fuel-frugal and tax-friendly as its more sober-suited stablemates, with 70.6mpg and 92g/km combined cycle consumption and CO2 emissions.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced today that Chrysler is recalling a total of 26,397 vehicles to inspect and repair power steering systems that could cause a fire.

The recall consists of certain model year 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 300, Charger (LX) and Dodge Challenger (LC), Dodge Avenger (JS) and Journey (JC). The recall also consists some model year 2011 Dodge Ram light duty pickup (DS) vehicles.

Chrysler said that some of these vehicles may experience a separation at the crimped end of the power steering pressure hose assembly. Leaked Power steering fluid onto the hot engine components could cause a fire.

The safety recall is expected to start later this month. Dealers will inspect and replace the power steering pressure hose free of charge. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Since it was first introduced back in 2003, the Mazda RX-8 has maintained a rather large following of enthusiasts. The model would go on to win a total of 48 global vehicle awards since its inception, including nine for the RENESIS Rotary Engine. With close to 182,000 models sold to date around the world, RX-8 comes with some pleasant upgrades for 2010 and a shot of testosterone right to the heart for the vehicle, making for a much more aggressive and masculine car.

While there were some alterations made to the interior and exterior of the vehicle, the RX-8 is primarily about performance. For 2010, Mazda kept the core of the RX-8, the high-powered RENESIS rotary engine, but made other enhancement that were designed to bolster performance.

Exterior:

It’s like everyone at Mazda’s design studio came out of a fresh course in geometry and decided to design a car with angles, triangles, rectangles and sharp edges.

All bias aside, the RX-8 isn”t exactly the most attractive coupe out there. Staying close to its previous generation models, Mazda continues on with a ton of geometry as the design is full of triangles, rectangles, curves, gills, and sleek coupe-like profile despite the fact that it has four doors. It is almost as if some in the design studio wanted a two door GT, while others decided they wanted a coupe ““ at the end, the decided to both.

On the design of the “10 RX-8 Mazda had the following to say: “advanced design of the rear-hinged rear doors, provides a large door opening, allowing adult-sized passengers to easily enter and exit the vehicle. This design is also advantageous when securing a baby or a small child in the back seat.”

Some minor upgrades to the rear bumper and front fascia, and the aforementioned changes aside, the “10 Mazda RX-8 remains strikingly similar to its predecessor”¦ but get”s a tad bit more aggressive.

2010 Mazda RX-8 - Interior

Interior:

The interior of the Mazda RX-8 is very driver oriented, almost like a cockpit of a fighter jet.

As is typical of Mazda interiors, the RX-8″s interior consists of solid materials with a layout oriented toward the driver. Depending on the trim level, there are plenty of options to be had in the RX-8; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift-knob, front and rear sport seating (Recaro seats are available), LCD touch-screen navigation, iPod/AUX/Bluetooth connectivity, 6-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo, Bose audio system with Centerpoint surround sound and AudioPilot noise compensation technology, and Mazda”s Advanced Keyless Entry & Start System are all available to customize and enhance the experience of driving your RX-8.

One drawback to the interior design, which may not even make a difference depending on the preference of the driver, is that the low cabin floor causes every roadway imperfection to be felt while driving. The reason for the low floor however, is so that the seats may be mounted lower in the chassis.

When all is said and done, the interior of the RX-8 is very driver-centric; suitable for the driver who doesn”t necessarily love the experience of pure driving.

2010 Mazda RX-8 - Performance

Performance:

The Mazda RX-8 offers a very dynamic driving experience and begs you to bury the tachometer needle before every shift.

Despite the intricate design details of the interior and exterior, performance is what sets the RX-8 apart from the rest. Power is derived from a 1.3L rotary engine mated to either a 6-speed automatic transmission w/paddle shifting and Adaptive Shift Logic technology, or a 6-speed manual overdrive transmission with short-throw shifter. When mated to the manual, the RX-8 puts out 232 horses, and 212 when mated to the automatic. Either transmission configuration will produce 159 lb-ft of torque; not exactly a beast in terms of torque.

For 2010, the engineers at Mazda created more rigidity via structural reinforcements; a trapezoidal strut tower bar in the front has greatly enhanced front suspension local rigidity, and the geometry of the rear suspension has been reconfigured to offer a better handling experience. Ninety pounds has also been shaved from previous models, bringing the total curb weight to 3,111 lbs when equipped with an automatic transmission, and 3,065 with the manual option.

If the above figures don”t seem impressive enough to you, go test-drive one. Despite the 1.3L naturally aspirated engine, the RX-8 redlines at 7,500 rpm when equipped with an automatic, and a whopping 9,000 rpm with the manual. This provides for a very dynamic driving experience, and begs you to bury the tachometer needle before shifting. Sixty mph comes in 6.5 to 7 seconds.

One thing to consider is that he RX-8 is not exactly the most fuel-efficient 1.3L engined car on the road; this is mainly due to how high the car revs. The EPA estimates 16/23 mpg (city/highway) for the automatic, and 16/22 for the manual. To make fuel matters worse, the car requires unleaded fuel with a minimum octane rating 91.

2010 Mazda RX-8 - Overall

Overall:

The Mazda RX-8 is comfortable, somewhat practical and offers tight grip on sharp turns at blistering speeds.

Despite the impending debate over the body-styling, the “10 Mazda RX-8 offers a smooth engine with great sound, handles curves at a blistering speed, is somewhat comfortable, practical (not so practical if you plan on putting adults in the back seat), and well-equipped.

Pricing starts at $26,645 for the Sport, and $32,110 for the Grand Touring model. Mazda also offers an R3 trim package for those requiring a bit more aggression.

Recent reports say that Mazda will be discontinuing the RX-8 after the 2011 model year due to the cars inability to meet impending stricter emissions standards. It is reported that the car will be replaced in the lineup by a successor to the RX-7, which is rumored to draw its power from a more efficient Renesis 16X rotary engine from the Taiki concept, which puts out 350-hp and 215 lb-ft of torque.

“A ‘radical expression of sport and utility,’ the FX offers exceptional levels of performance, refinement and driving exhilaration,”: that is how Infiniti describes its 2010 FX SUV/Crossover. The expression may be a bit misinterpreted however, with regard to utility; that is one area where the vehicle falls blatantly short. The FX isn”t the only vehicle in its class with this shortcoming; the BMW X6 also offers less utility but puts more emphasis on performance, sportiness, and aggressive styling.

Having first hit the scene for the “03 model year, the FX had a long-running first generation; it was redesigned and reengineered for the first time in 2009. We were given the opportunity to examine the new product up close when the folks at Infiniti dropped it off the all-new 2010 Infiniti FX 50S at our garage, and we must say, we were really impressed with the overall drive quality, performance, and convenient interior features.

Exterior:

It definitely turns heads… depending on how you look it.

Infiniti says that the 2010 FX is a head turner. While this may be true, that is only a good thing if heads are being turned toward the vehicle. While the FX isn”t an atrocity to look at, the styling of the vehicle can come off as a bit aggressive when compared to that of the competition. The long hood, stretched wheelbase, short front and rear overhangs, and low center of gravity indicate to us that when they got in the lab to redesign the vehicle, they focused heavily on proportioning the car in a very sporty manner. Contributing even more to the sportiness of the vehicle is the body design”s distinctive, functioning side air vents which are located behind the front wheels and allow air to flow through the engine compartment and out of the side of the vehicle, reducing front end lift.

When viewed from the rear, the second generation differs very little from the first. The front of the vehicle however, is a different story with its new, much more dramatic “˜wave” style grille, which we think is a little too aggressive. Rounding out the aggressiveness of the vehicle are Infiniti”s signature fog lamps, High Intensity Discharge (HID) bi-functional projector headlights, and a strong front-to-rear shoulder line. The large LED taillights are an interesting touch however, as they extend beyond the body helping to create aerodynamic downforce.

While the body design of the 2010 FX is certainly not without merit, we feel that it is overly dramatic when compared to that of the competition.

2010 Infiniti FX50 S - Interior

Interior:

An inside that is welcoming with numerous advanced technology features and solid quality.

The interior of the FX has been totally redesigned to include an emphasis on sportiness while being oriented around the driver. All 2010 FX models come standard with a pretty solid set of options that includes; Infiniti Intelligent Key with push button start, Bluetooth connectivity, leather-appointed seats, 60/40 split rear bench seating that reclines as well as folds down, power windows with front and rear one touch functionality, and an advanced Bose audio system that carries with it 11-speakers, AM/FM/CD player, and a 2GB Music Box Hard Drive with USB connectivity for AV playback and iPod user interface. An XM Satellite Radio (subscription sold separately) is also included as standard equipment with a diversity antenna and steering-wheel mounted audio controls.

All FX 50 models include all of the above amenities while adding the convenience of Infiniti”s Hard Drive (HDD) Navigation system, which features XM NavTraffic real-time traffic information, XM NavWeather real-time weather information, Zagat Restaurant Guide, and Bluetooth Streaming Audio. The standard 2GB Music Box system is upgraded to 9.3GB and Voice Recognition for the navigation and audio systems also come standard on all FX 50 models.

2010 Infiniti FX50 S - Around View Monitor

There are also a plethora of optional features that add to the driving experience, and that are included in various trim packages. They include: Advanced Climate Control System (ACCS) with Plasmacluster ionizer which reduces interior airborne contaminants by way of a “˜Clean Mode” which uses ionization to reduce unwanted airborne particles, Infiniti Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) adaptive cruise control, Around View Monitor system which provides a birds-eye view of the vehicles surroundings, sport-style front seats, solid magnesium paddle shifters, dark-tinted headlight bezels, Continuous Damping Control and Rear Active Steer, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention, Intelligent Cruise Control (Full Speed Range), Distance Control Assist, Intelligent Brake Assist, Front Pre-Crash Seat Belts, rain-sensing wipers and Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) headlights with auto-leveling.

In terms of functionality as an SUV, the FX falls a bit short with its mere 24.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up, and 62.0 cubic feet with the seats down. This isn”t detrimental however, as shoppers of this sub-segment are often in search of performance more than a significant utility.

2010 Infiniti FX50 S - 5.0L V8

Performance:

The Infiniti FX offers sports car performance and crossover like comfort.

The entry-level 2010 Infiniti FX 35 pulls its power from a 303-hp V6 engine. The FX 50S that we tested however, derives power from 5.0L V8 that puts out 390-hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 7-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission with manual shift mode and adaptive shift control, the FX 50 attains 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 145 mph. In terms of drive quality, the FX 50 is delivers a very pleasurable ride; great for the intensely spirited driver or leisurely Sunday driver.

All FX models offer independent suspension at all four corners, with a double-wishbone suspension design up front, and a multi-link design in the rear. Large diameter stabilizer bars are utilized at both ends, and the system also incorporates special Dual Flow Path shock absorber technology with rebound springs, all of which combine to deliver an extremely comfortable ride and superbly firm handling.

Both the FX35 and FX50 are available with Infiniti”s advanced ATTESA E-TS™ (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system, which uses an advanced torque split control strategy that automatically redistributes torque to the wheels according to road and driving conditions.

When compared to the German competition in terms of performance, the FX holds its own, delivering the zip, power, smooth acceleration, tight handling, and firm ride that we have come to love from the likes of the Germans.

2010 Infiniti FX50 S - Rear Shot

Overall:

The Infiniti FX is one of the best in its segment with one of the most attractive price tags in the segment.

Drive quality, luxury, and standard and optional equipment all considered, the FX represents a great buy. Pricing starts at $42,850 for the entry-level 303-hp V6 FX35, with the all-wheel drive option bringing the MSRP to $44,300. The FX50 demands a heftier price, starting at $59,000 and coming standardly equipped with all-wheel-drive. This is still a bargain when you consider that the FX”s closest competitor, the BMW X6 xDrive50i starts at $67,200. Anyone in the market that is willing to sacrifice utility for a sport ride owes it to themselves test-drive both models.

If you are more price-conscious however, the FX is certainly the vehicle for you considering the plush amenities and sporty 390-hp engine for about $8,000 less than the sticker on the X6 xDrive50i.

General Motors announced today that it is conducting a voluntary safety recall on 3,966 Cadillac SRX crossovers from the 2010 model year for a possible damage to the power steering line. However, GM points that the issue is believed to exist on only two or three of the recalled vehicles.

“If the line is damaged, power steering fluid could leak, and if the fluid sprays onto hot engine parts, an engine compartment fire could result,” GM said in a statement. “GM is aware of one such fire in an unattended SRX related to this condition. There have been no related crashes or injuries.”

The SRX units being recalled were built in December 2009 and the majority of those affected are in the United States. 341 were exported to China. GM said that it will notify owners by mail and if necessary, the repair will be performed free of charge.

Honda announced that it will recall 3,336 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour models in the United States to inspect and possibly replace the front passenger airbag.

“Recent testing revealed that certain front passenger airbag modules installed in a limited number of 2010 Accord Crosstours do not meet one aspect of a U.S. federal regulation (FMVSS 208) that requires airbag deployment to be tested using an unbelted six year-old child-sized test dummy in the front seating area.”

Honda said that no incidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue. The company will be sending out notifications to owners starting Sept. 22, 2010. Owners can go to www.recalls.honda.com or call (800) 999-1009, and select option 4.

Come on – we know you guys love this boring recall news.

Back in the day, whenever you”d consider an Infiniti, you always had the sense they were the rejected second thought alternatives to Lexus, Mercedes, BMW and the like. Eventually, you”d stumble upon one of those few motorists who owned one, and they”d tell you that they”re brilliant to drive. In a sense, they were like the few girls from your university dormitories that were never really quite lookers, but strangely you heard it through the grapevine that they were quite good in bed. Infinitis were nearly facing extinction–just like the latter girls nearly ended up being coke addicts””but then a chap by the name of Carlos Ghosn came around in 1999 to save the distressed soul of Infiniti, and sent it through rehab.

It was the introduction of the Infiniti G35 in 2003 that saved Infiniti and it was so competitively good, that it knocked the BMW E46 3er off its first place steeple in several comparisons and even won Motor Trend”s Car of the Year in 2003. But that was seven years ago and when the G35 was coming to the end of its production run, BMW slowly regained its winning place. After seven years of evolution, two generations and a facelift, what we have in front of us, is one of many trim levels added to the 3-Series runner-up: the 2010 Infiniti G37xS.

Now, it would be nice if I was on some pokey motoring show like Top Gear to present this car to you in the form of powerslides on an abandoned airfield, but unfortunately I”m not so I”m going to have to explain everything in print”¦mmm how scholarly.

2010 Infiniti G37xS - Exterior

Exterior:

Infinitis were never really quite attractive. They were rather bland and never really stuck out as unique and attractive, which is part of the reason why they almost failed. But after the addition of the handsome G35 Coupe and the strangely attractive invention of the luxury performance crossover, the FX, things were starting to look better. And here, with the new G37 and its new facelift, things are better than they”ve ever been before. Infiniti said that the second generation had all completely new body panels. At first, many never notice much of a difference but yet it always struck me as far smoother than the original G35. The nose is wonderfully aggressive, yet it rolls softly and is very clean. What with the recessed hood and the shoulder line which lines the inner hood and centralizes into the middle lower air duct, L-shaped headlamps and a trapezoidal grill””it”s all very inspiring. The protruding shoulder line gives it a very muscular feel and gives the car a sense of athleticism.

2010 Infiniti G37xS - Interior

Interior:

And things are just as good on the inside as they are on the outside. Infiniti as of recent has been praised for their build quality. Once you step in, you”re enveloped in a cockpit with exceptionally comfortable yet supportive seats. Materials are high quality and soft to the touch and switchgear is nice, tactile and driver-oriented. It is rather snug inside but it isn’t overwhelmingly and uncomfortably small. You feel like you”re in a cockpit”¦ and rightfully so when you”re behind this rocket ship.

2010 Infiniti G37xS - Rear Angle

Performance:

Fire up Infiniti”s famous 3.7-Liter VQ37VHR-or-whatever V6 and it rumbles to life as it settles down to a smooth, low idle. Pushing out 332 HP at 7000 RPM and 269 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 RPM through a quick shifting 7-speed automatic with flappy paddles, it”ll thrust you into the horizon by doing naught to 60 in a whopping 5.4 seconds, will pull a quarter mile in 13.9 seconds at 100.5 MPH, and will hit a top speed of 155 MPH. It”s almost a half second slower to 60 than its RWD sibling, but nonetheless, is a very quick car. The power curve is wide and flat and the gearbox is set to take full advantage of that curve in nearly every gear.

And things get better when you come to a corner. The G37xS is equipped with Nissan”s ATTESA ET-S AWD system””imagine having a meal conversation with the man who invented that acronym”¦probably as exciting as a bowl of pea soup””which adds 150 lbs to the G37″s RWD sibling to a grand total of curb weight of 3,859 lbs. Weight distribution is nearly bang-on. And the chassis? Well, instead of getting too technical, we”ll just say this. Based off of Infiniti”s widely used and popular FM platform, it is nothing less than spectacular. Ride quality is a bit firm, but never overwhelmingly jarring and body motions are well controlled. The steering, which lost some of its feel because of the added AWD system, is still nonetheless outstanding, providing enough feel and feedback to make the steering in BMW”s E90 3er AWD variant seem lethargic. And that”s quite a statement.

Now there are a few drawbacks. Throttle tip-in is still way too sensitive, making it a challenge to accelerate smoothly in normal traffic without upsetting the stomachs of your passengers. It”s been an ongoing issue for the Infiniti G. And what happened to that inspiring exhaust note? It”s like taking the steel drum band away from a Caribbean holiday.

2010 Infiniti G37xS

Overall:

Altogether, we here at egmCarTech don”t care about these minor setbacks. The Infiniti G37xS might not be as good to drive as it”s RWD sibling, which is expected from the added weight of the AWD system. But that”s like saying sex isn”t as enjoyable when your partner has love handles”¦it”s a little less appealing, but you have something to grip on”¦and it still feels good. And with standard equipment bearing more acronyms than alphabet soup, like ATTESA ET-S, VSA, ASR, ABS, EBD, ICC, AFS, ASC, a custom designed Bose sound system with iPod connectivity, 14-way leather seats, dual zone climate control, moonroof, automatic lights and wipers, auto-dimming rear-view, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, six airbags, and 18-inch wheels and much more, even fully equipped the G37xS will take $43,725 out of your wallet, a full $9k less than a similarly equipped and just as fast BMW 335i XDrive. So is it a BMW beater? No. It isn”t. Is it very close? Yes, it is. In fact, if we were stuck between the two and were on bit of a budget, we”d pick the G37 hands down. If money wasn”t an option ““ well, than we”d be stuck standing with the G37 on our left and the BMW 3 on our right saying “eenie meenie miney moe.”

The first person to take advantage of General Motors Performance Build Center’s build your own Corvette engine will be Todd Schnitt, host of a Tampa-based syndicated radio show. Schnitt will personally build the 638-hp supercharged small block engine for his new Corvette ZR1.

“As part of the Corvette Engine Build Experience ordering option, a special Chevrolet concierge is coordinating all arrangements with Schnitt,” GM said in a statement. “After the build is completed Monday, the engine will be tracked and sent to the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky., where Schnitt”s ZR1 will be assembled with his engine shortly thereafter.”

“To build my own engine is over the top,” said Schnitt. “When my dealer told me about the option it was like “˜Of course, I”ll do it, sign me up!”. I can”t wait to get there and build my own LS9. It will be the ultimate personalization for my car. I”m anticipating it being one of the coolest things I”ve done in my life. It definitely makes my “˜bucket-list.”"
