2009 Mazda6 makes North American debut

Mazda today unveiled the all-new redesigned Mazda6 for the U.S. market which is set to go on sale later this summer.  Mazda says that following the CX-7 and the CX-9, the 2009 North American Mazda6 is the third model that was designed and engineered specifically to meet the needs of our North American customers.

No horsepower ratings have been released as of yet, but we’re going to estimate them for you. The base entry level model will be powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine from the JDM market and should produce around 175-hp. The range-topper 3.7 liter V6 is the same engine from the 2008 CX-9 so we’re guessing an output of 265-hp.  Mazda will offer a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic for the 4-clyinder while the V6 model gets a six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift mode.

Pricing and details will be announced closer to launch but don’t expect them to change from the current model’s $19,625 tag.

Filed under: 2009 Releases, Chevrolet, GM

When the much anticipated Corvette ZR1 made its debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show in January, we were told that engineers are still messing around with the LS9 supercharged 6.2L V8 engine to hit a target of 620-hp and approximately 595 lb-ft. of torque.

The GM engineers are finally done messing around and the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will officially produce 638-hp (an increase of 18 over the original target) and 604 lb-ft of torque (an increase of 9 over the original). That means the LS9 puts out nearly 103 horses per liter. We still don’t have any official 0-60 figures however top speed will be just over 200mph.

The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will hit markets this summer with the MSRP to be right under $100,000.
