Photo Rendering: Land Rover could be eying a subcompact crossover prospect

Land Rover’s clearly in the business of making SUVs and crossovers, particularly aimed at the affluent crowd. This of course implies that one needs quite a bit of money to be able to afford a Land Rover of any scale…and the repair bills that they come with.

But LR themselves want to close this gap apparently as Italian outlet, OmniAuto, says the company could potentially invest in a model to sit below the Range Rover Evoque, as a likely move to compete with the Mercedes-Benz GLA and the up-and-coming BMW X2. Audi already has the Q2 and the Q3.

The report speculates that the new subcompact crossover could take form as a “baby Evoque,” rather than a car that sits below the Discovery Sport, meaning the small crossover in discussion could be viewed as a glorified and more luxurious alternative to the Discovery Sport.

Specifics weren’t shared by J-LR themselves, but the idea of a “baby Evoque” doesn’t seem too far off kilter since they seek to compete with the Germans in the crossover department move-for-move. For instance, they’re already working on a “crossover coupe” version of the Range Rover to compete with the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
