Report: Audi doesn’t want to be left out from the limousine and coupe market with the A8
Mercedes-Maybach has the S600 Pullman, and recently, BMW supposedly said that they’re not leaving Mercedes to be the only one to produce an elongated limo version of their flagship luxury sedan. Now, Audi wants to do the same with the A8.

Neither am I.
AutoExpress had an interview with Audi’s technical chief, Stefan Knirsch, who said Audi is interested in the idea of making a limo out of the next-generation A8 to compete more directly with the S-Class’s variants. This includes a possible Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman competitor, and on the flip side, a coupe version of the A8 to compete with the S-Class Convertible.
BMW too, is also rumored to be joining this large luxury coupe trend too by possibly reviving the 8-Series.
In addition to producing more variants of the A8 sedan, Audi’s still maintaining their pledge to introduce more semi-autonomous and autonomous driving tech into the next-generation model. We’re told to expect the A8 to give the driver the ability to take his or her hands off of the wheel for an extended period of time, “when compared to the current offerings.” In other words, it sounds like Audi has its sights set on Tesla’s Autopilot.
It is not known at this point when Audi could introduce the next-generation A8, but speculation points to sometime around 2018.
