The Hennessey Venom GT remains to be the world’s fastest production car

Hennessey Performance hopped on their PR newswire to announce the celebration of their 25th anniversary, by breaking the world land-speed record for the fastest convertible production car.

According to their official statement, the Hennessey Performance Venom GT Spyder set a new record for the fastest convertible in the world at 265 MPH, or 11 MPH faster in total than the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse’s figure of 254 MPH.

That’s 265 MPH…with the top down.

How does it happen? In the case of the Venom GT Spyder, power is provided by a 7.0L twin-turbocharged V8 with 1451hp and 1287 lb-ft of twist, mated to a reinforced Lotus Elise frame with a six-speed manual in between.
