Report: Infiniti wants to make a Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid rival
Infiniti really wants to up their game in terms of competing with the big dawgs from Europe, so much in fact, AutomotiveNews reports they’re working on a new flagship sedan to combat the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid and the Mercedes-Benz S500 Plug-In Hybrid.
According to the report, the new flagship will be heavily modeled after the Q80 Inspiration Concept and the car’s in its first phases of research and development.
It’s been many years since Infiniti has truly produced a flagship sedan model, ever since the Q45 was retired back in 2006 and the company is very much overdue for a new model to take its place.
Whether or not the new flagship will be a standard hybrid, or of the plug-in type remains to be determined. But either way, it’s anticipated to still be inspired by the Q80 Inspiration Concept’s powertrain featuring a twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 mated to a electric motor, where output was rated nearly at 550hp.
