Report: Turkey apparently bought the Saab 9-3 completely, rights and all

In a total farce to everything that’s holy in the world and history of the automobile, especially with Saab’s story, it appears the entire country of Turkey completely bought the Saab 9-3, meaning all the design, intellectual and engineering rights to the car–except the name.

According to Hurriet Daily News, the Saab 9-3’s entire portfolio was purchased by Turkey’s Science, Industry, and Technology minister, Fikri Isik, to be developed under a Turkish brand as the company’s first-ever nationally built car.

Saab’s current CEO, Mattias Bergman also hopped into confirm the car manufacturer and Turkey came to an agreement.

Though we’re not exactly sure what this particularly means, but our simplest takeaway is that this is another avenue for Saab to regain some finances in lieu of their struggling situation and state of trying to recover from various stages of bankruptcy.
