Report: Infiniti’s Q50 Eau Rouge prospect is no more

Infinti really had us excited when they revealed the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept, an extremely aggressive and high-performance version of the Q50, donning the same handbuilt 3.8L twin-turbo V6 as the Nissan GT-R.

Though after various rumors bouncing back and forth about the car’s fate and whether or not it would reach production, the Q50 Eau Rouge’s attention sort of fell off the map and now, it’s done for good, according to CAR Magazine. So no, there won’t be a BMW M3 competitor from Infiniti any time soon.

Infiniti Europe’s vice president, Francois Goupil de Bouille said the project was simply too costly to justify and the benefits it would provide the company weren’t substantial enough. I don’t know about you, but bragging rights of being able to run with the BMW M3 with a legendary engine from the Nissan GT-R are some pretty strong benefits, even strictly speaking from a branding perspective. Because you know, Infiniti’s been the underdog competitor to German rivals such as BMW.

This has us a bit bummed since it certainly would’ve been exciting to see a comparo involving the BMW M3, the Mercedes-AMG C63, the Jaguar XE SVR, the Cadillac ATS-V, and even the incoming Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.
