Report: A BMW M240i is on the way in 2017 to replace the M235i

BMW’s new pointless nomenclature theme will be hitting the beloved M235i sports coupe again as BMW enthusiast site,¬†BimmerPost reports the M235i is to be renamed the M240i when it gets updated for its mid-cycle refresh in 2017.

In addition to the useless name that follows other fellow BMW stablemates, the new M240i is expected to get a minor boost in power, around 10-15hp more than the M235i to net the total output near 340hp.

This is due to a slightly reengineered version of the current turbocharged 3.0L N55 straight-six as the current model.

BMW’s also still on track to introduce a full-fledged M version of the 2-Series to sit above M240i, which despite the name, is just a M Performance-branded model with some extra sportier goodies.
