Report: A BMW M240i is on the way in 2017 to replace the M235i

BMW’s new pointless nomenclature theme will be hitting the beloved M235i sports coupe again as BMW enthusiast site, BimmerPost reports the M235i is to be renamed the M240i when it gets updated for its mid-cycle refresh in 2017.

In addition to the useless name that follows other fellow BMW stablemates, the new M240i is expected to get a minor boost in power, around 10-15hp more than the M235i to net the total output near 340hp.

This is due to a slightly reengineered version of the current turbocharged 3.0L N55 straight-six as the current model.

BMW’s also still on track to introduce a full-fledged M version of the 2-Series to sit above M240i, which despite the name, is just a M Performance-branded model with some extra sportier goodies.
