Recently, some spotted shots of the 2016 Kia Sportage were obtained by some outlets, including us, in lieu of some media attention towards the brand after they teased sketches of the new compact crossover.
Due for a reveal at Frankfurt next month, the new Sportage is pinned to be an all-new model from the ground up, incorporating new looks and a far more upscale interior.
Now, some new pictures popped up of the 2016 Kia Sportage completely uncovered!
From what we know, the Sportage continues its mission as a shrunken down, mini-me Sorento and judging by the pictures, the Sportage certainly looks much more upscale on both the inside and the outside.
We’re anticipating a similar use of Hyundai power and drivetrains, shared with the all-new 2016 Tucson since both the Tucson and the Sportage are built on the same platform. This means the same new 1.6L turbocharged four as the Tucson, with a base 2.0L naturally-aspirated four also made available. Like the Tucson, front-wheel and all-wheel drive should be the choices available, as with Hyundai’s own seven-speed dual-clutch automatic mated exclusively to the 1.6L turbo four. The 2.0L four should retain its six-speed automatic.
The public debut of the 2016 Sportage is set for September 15 at the IAA, so stay tuned for the full online reveal between now and then.
