Report: Mercedes-AMG set to debut Porsche Panamera-competing GT4 in 2018

Mercedes-AMG is currently in the midst of expanding their GT lineup, which obviously starts with the all-new AMG GT sports coupe, designed to compete directly with the Porsche 911.

But they’re not done there as Automobile Magazine received the scoop regarding their next model, the GT4–a new four-door coupe that is destined to take on the Porsche Panamera when it arrives for the second generation.

Though don’t for a second think that the new GT4 will just look like an elongated version of the GT as sources within AMG GT told Automobile that the GT4 will have bespoke doors, quarter panels, and front and rear fascias. Additionally, an “amazingly low roofline” was also noted.

The interior is also said to be uniquely designed, both in appearance, layout and even lighting. Mechanically, the GT4 should ride on Mercedes’ new platform underpinning the next-gen CLS as well as the new E-Class.

Power should be provided by a 2.9L inline-six diesel with 300hp and 400hp, while a gas turbocharged six-cylinder of some sort should churn out 455hp, with AMG’s new 4.0L twin-turbo V8 as the top-spec mills with 557hp and 585hp.

A launch in 2018 or 2019 is expected.
