Volvo’s currently in the midst of overhauling their entire lineup, which first began with the 2015 XC90, given that it was, just last year, the oldest model in the lineup.
Now, the oldest model is the current S80, and that’s due for a replacement within the near future.
So far, from what we know, the new S80 successor will be named the S90 and is destined to ride on the same Scalable Product Architecture platform as the current XC90, but in different proportions. Visually, we’re told to expect lots of visual cues and design features from the XC90 and the latest Volvo Concept Estate.
Not many more specifics were shared, but we anticipate the new S90 to utilize the same powertrains as the XC90, including the new range-topping T8 Twin Engine powerplant with around 400hp and 472 lb-ft of twist. A hybrid setup is also expected with a rear-mounted electric motor.
