Report: Lotus shares some more Evora 400 details, plus new SUV

Top Gear recently sat down with Lotus’ chief, Jean-Marc Gales, who shared some details regarding their near-future line of new models.

Gales more specifically shared some important information regarding their new SUV crossover, which should help them become a more prominent player in the industry. It’ll be a Chinese-built SUV, making it the first ever type of car to come from the small British manufacturer.

The plan is to have it go on sale by 2022 in markets outside of China, should all go to plan. Otherwise, it’ll begin selling on the mainland in 2019 or 2020.

Gales noted that other companies are breaking their ideological molds by building SUVs to make more money. For instance, Lamborghini is still working on their first crossover while Maserati is not that far away from revealing theirs–two companies who are otherwise not typical crossover builders. So there’s absolutely no reason for Lotus to the same, especially if it will make a positive business case.
