Video: Watch a pedestrian detection test fail with a Volvo XC60

Now we don’t know whether to classify this as crazy, stupid or both, but a video surfaced of some men apparently trying to put Volvo’s pedestrian protection system to the test.

The XC60 comes with a Volvo’s City Safety system, which is a series of passive and active setups on the car built and designed to prevent you from hitting things in stop-and-go traffic and at speeds below 30 MPH.

So basically, they’re there to keep you from running little children or puppies over while you’re texting your bestie on your phablet and sipping your Venti Charbucks in neighborhoods.

Well, these men tried to test that system, and simply put, it horribly fails. However, it wasn’t a failure as a result of the car, but the car just wasn’t in the proper position for it to work and calculate a real situation for when it is needed.

Check it out after the jump. And be ready to self-impose a facepalm.
