Report: Toyota working on a new entry-level lightweight model with 130hp

It seems Toyota’s not willing to give up its prospects on sports cars, and we couldn’t be any happier.

This is further reflected by Motoring’s latest find, which says that Toyota’s might be interested in working a small, lightweight roadster, as a move to most likely combat the new Honda S660 and the new Mazda Miata.

So far, Motoring reports this new rumored sports car should have a small engine, a 1.5L four-banger with 130hp given the car’s said to have a 2,160lb curb weight, and that puts it square into the territory of said Miata.

The new Toyota is supposedly dubbed the 69DZ and is described to take heavy influence from the 1965 Toyota Sports 800 while being a mesh of some new GT 86 styling.

Oh, and of course, expect to be rear-wheel drive with a six-speed automatic or manual. Should all go well, expect this baby Toyota by 2018.
