Report: BMW’s X2 to surface in 2017
BMW’s following the way of Audi and Mercedes-Benz by trying to fill every niche gap possible by innovating with “new models,” or just smaller versions of crossovers and sedans that are less practical for more money. Totally makes sense right?
Well, that happened to create the X6 and the X4. So guess what, an X2 is on the way to compete with Mercedes-Benz’s GLA and Audi’s Q3 compact.
That said, it will be front-wheel drive, using the same UKL modular platform as Mini’s entire lineup. xDrive all-wheel drive will be optional. Powering the X2 should be a similar line of gasoline and diesel engines, with BMW’s latest three-banger serving duty as well.
Because it’s an all-new model, we can now also expect a hot M version to be made with around 300hp for the GLA 45 AMG and Audi SQ3 competition.
A concept for the X2 is expected to surface sometime around March of 2016, or around the same time Geneva takes place.
