Report: Porsche’s new BMW 5-Series fighter could be an all-electric affair

Porsche’s been rumored and known to be working on a new BMW 5-Series competitor, given the fact that they already have the Panamera, which can compete with anything from the Maserati Quattroporte, to the BMW 7-Series, to the 6-Series Gran Coupe, and even the Audi A7.

So naturally, it was only a matter of time until Porsche saw the opportunity to participate in the midsize luxury and sports crew, which consists of the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6, Jaguar SF, Lexus GS, and the Cadillac CTS. This should’ve been predicted a long time ago, given the midsize luxury market is a very critical one for anyone with a contender, though it was only realized when Maserati entered the party with the new Ghibli, word of Alfa Romeo sticking a hand into the game, and Tesla Motors working on their own 5-Series competitor.

As a result, Porsche’s obviously working on their own entrant, which has thus far been coined the nickname, Pajun.

According to the latest article fromĀ AutoCar, the new Porsche should ride on VW Group’s latest MSB platform, though now, the Porsche Pajun is predicted to be an EV to hone its sights on the Tesla BMW 5-Series competitor. This means a battery back will sit in the middle of the car while two individual motors provide power to each wheel separately for torque vectoring.

Total output is esitmated to be around 420hp, which is on point with Tesla’s all-wheel drive Model S 85D.

Styling is said to reflect the Panamera Sport Turismo Concept and a launch date sometime in 2018 is expected.
