Report: Mercedes still rumored to build an Audi TT competitor

Some rumors began floating around about a Mercedes-Benz competitor to the Audi TT.

And some of you may think: they already have one, it’s the Mercedes-Benz SLK.

However the biggest difference between the TT and the SLK are that the SLK is only a convertible with a folding hardtop while the TT can be had in both coupe and convertible form. Not to mention, the TT is either front- or all-wheel drive and the SLK is rear-wheel drive.

Nonetheless, Mercedes-Benz still wants to build a more direct competitor to the TT, which means this model should be front-wheel drive, given Benz’s desire to make the most out of their latest front-wheel drive platform, currently underpinning the CLA, the GLA, A-Class and B-Class.

Styling is said to be derived from the AMG GT and it should be a 2+2 coupe, unlike the TT, which is only a two-seater. 4MATIC all-wheel drive should be optional. Given Merc’s desire to AMG-ify everything, we wouldn’t rule out an AMG version either.
