The new Supra will appear as a 2018 model and will not only rebirth the famed sports car from the 1980s and 1990s, it’ll also give birth to the next-generation Z4 successor.

C/D also heard the new coupe should gain a turbocharged inline-six sourced from BMW while the rear-wheel drive chassis gets all the tweaking and massaging in Munich.

Toyota on the other hand will be supplying the dough to fund the project while allowing BMW to take some tricks from ‘Yota’s book on “how to design and engineer hybrids.” BMW will also be providing a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but for the Z4 successor.

The Japanese side of the project was also able to disclose that the Supra’s styling should large resemble the FT-1 Concept car.
