Report: Toyota’s new sports car collab with BMW to sit above GT 86

AutoCar reports that Toyota’s long-awaited midsize sports car collaboration with BMW will sit above the GT 86. Great, tell us something that we don’t know…

Toyota Europe’s vice president and product planning head, Karl Schlicht, told the outlet of this somewhat new, but unsurprising development.

So far, the midsize sports car in question was teased by the FT-1 Concept and since then, we have yet to hear of or see any progress or confirmation as to what’s going to happen. The last bit of rumors report a BMW-sourced 2.0L turbo-four with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, making for an all-wheel drive setup.

Ideally, the new midsize sports car should surface around 2017 with a projected selling price around $55,000 in the US.
