Report: Mitsubishi downplays any successor to the Lancer in the near future
We’re all wondering what the hell Mitsubishi is doing.
Their entire lineup is aging beyond belief or fails to be even remotely competitive as they struggle to remain relevant among the highly-competitive mainstream automotive market.
This even comes after Mitsubishi revealed some intensely intriguing concepts, only to never have followed up with any of them as of recent.
That said, we’re scratching our heads to the question of whether they’re going to even survive in the US market. Either way, they need to think and think fast.
CarAdvice apparently spoke to Mitsubishi Motors’ COO, Tetsuro Aikawa, who said a new Lancer is nowhere in the brand’s future plans as they concentrate their focus on plug-in hybrids, electric vehicles, and SUVs.
This is an interesting move because the Lancer’s compact market is a huge one and is one that usually grants any manufacturer with a well-executed product, lots of profits. And profits is what Mitsubishi needs to proceed forwards.
Ultimately, the takeaway from this is, don’t expect a new Lancer any time soon.
