Report: Hyundai downplays entry-level sports car

Hyundai’s been planning big for the future to continue their recent success over the past decade with hints of moving upmarket, while expanding their lineup to cover all the bases.

One of these bases for the future was the entry-level sports car market, which saw a revitalization recently with some models like the Scion FR-S. And recently, Hyundai was rumored to be considering an entry-level sports car on their own.

However, AutoCar spoke with Hyundai Motor UK’s president, Tony Whitehorn, who said that the possibility of a new sports car was unlikely, because it’s too risky as a business proposition right now.

This could also be affected by the fact that Hyundai’s sister, Kia, is also rumored to be working on an affordable sports car, so there’s probably consideration for that to avoid product overlap.
