Report: Mercedes-Benz to phase out twin-turbo 5.5L V8

AutoCar reports Mercedes-Benz should be on the verge of beginning to phase out their rather ubiquitous and commonly used 5.5L twin-turbocharged V8.

But don’t expect it to happen overnight as the engine’s retirement should be a slow process as Mercedes begins to introduce newer, more advanced and more efficient motors for future models.

It’s replacement–Mercedes-Benz’s new twin-turbo 4.0L V8, which debuted in the C63 AMG and the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT.
