Report: BMW’s next-gen 7-Series to lose up to 375lbs

BMW’s taking their research and development gained from the i3 and i8 projects to heart and lately, they’ve been boasting about plans to use this new technology and knowledge to help reduce the curb weight of their future models. And now, it seems like the work really is paying off as the next-generation 7-Series is said to lose around 375lbs when compared to the current model.

This is to be accomplished by way of lots of carbon fiber reinforced plastic, high-strength steel, aluminum and magnesium. This will also improve the car’s balance and weight distribution.

The new model should also gain lots of new tech such as a WiFi hotspot, wireless charging, a high-end Bowers & Wilkins audio system as optional, and more tech, which should debut at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas next month.

Additionally, the new 7-Series is rumored to gain a new Rolls-Royce sourced V12, versus the current models, which use a BMW-sourced V12.
