Report: A new Kia crossover hybrid could surface within the next two years
AutoExpress in the UK recently learned that Kia could be working on a new hybrid crossover for a launch sometime in 2016.
Don’t think of it as it being too big though as it’s being designed at the same crowd who considered the Toyota Prius. That said, it should be smaller than the current Sportage and thus, considered a subcompact crossover.
Inspiration is said to be sourced from the 2012 Niro Concept while the interior should get styled after the incoming new generation 2016 Optima sedan.
Kia’s head of marketing in markets outside the US, Spencer Cho, said the new crossover should ride on an entirely new platform with a 1.6L gasoline four-pot with an electric motor that should promise at least 50 mpg on the US combined cycle.
The crossover is internally named the DE and a supplemental plug-in hybrid version should surface in 2017.
