Report: Cadillac’s crossovers to gain XT name

Cadillac revealed to be introducing a new nomenclature theme beginning with their new flagship sedan. The new sedan is called the CT6 and not only sets the stage for the first rear-wheel drive luxury sedan from Cadillac in over 20 years, it launches Cadillac’s new naming theme.

The CT name transcends to other models beyond the flagship. For example, the CTS will keep the CT part of its name while the number succeeding the “CT” letters indicates the model’s placement in the lineup in numerical decrements from the CT6. But that not all.

According to Forbes, Cadillac’s new line of crossovers get a name change as well. They’ll be signified by the XT name, followed by a number, much like Cadillac’s new CT theme. The only exception to this rule would be the Escalade, for obvious reasons.

All of these changes are a part of plans set forth by Caddy’s new boss, Johan de Nysschen, who’s also responsible for Infiniti’s confusing and new nomenclature theme.

For Cadillac on the other hand, the new names for the sedans and the crossovers are known, leaving us wondering what the future coupes would be called.
