Report: Ford GT scheduled to make a comeback and to revive Le Mans participation

Ford has been rumored to be working on a new version of the GT to commemorate Ford’s victory run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966 to 1969, 50 years ago in 2016.

According to recent reports from Road&Track and MotorTrend, Ford is even talking homologation status as the new GT would even participate at current day Le Mans races. Other details pointing at Ford’s future supercar and motorsports plans included stories of a Ford rep attending recent meetings for 2016 GTE-Class rules and regulations for the world-famous league. Such a class includes the Corvette, the Porsche 911, the Ferrari 458 Italia, and many others.

The new GT is said to continue its mid-engined construction, but what exactly would sit in that spot next to the rear-axle is unknown. MotorTrend claims Ford may announce or even showcase the GT’s new engine at Detroit next January.

Even though you should take that with a grain of salt, it’s still exciting to hear about the return of the Ford GT.
